So what would be the topic this sunday?
If we wanted to be mean to Cuba, it could be Mount and Blade, since he is going to be out and I have a feeling would bust a nut just talking about that game. But I started playing it a few days ago and SHIT YEAH.
If not that, then what? |

I went ahead and edited this first one and added some music on the top and bottom. It's still bouncing out of ProTools now so I will upload something sometime tomorrow.
In the future I would like to add short interstitial music clips (5-15 seconds) between topics or break points in a similar way to how it wraps the top and bottom of this example cast (music relevant to the topics being discussed, of course!)
I compressed it really hard to put those with lower volume (P1, TMFK) on the same ground as those who were uh, you know, audible, or actually clipping (Toups!). So next time around it's not going to sound as squashed since, in theory you guys will have a better handle on the volume.
I only really cut out about 40 minutes of material (including technical difficulties, long pauses, people stepping on each other, a lot of ummm's, ahhhh's, repeated words, and almost all the talk about planning for future episodes), and that was the really conservative approach considering some of the tangents that got left in, but I thought I would leave a lot of the fun stuff in since this was a trial run anyway.
as you guys are well aware already, we are going to have to employ at least one of the techniques proposed towards the end of the podcast itself to cut down on the running time on future podcasts, because two and a half hours per and episode is an editing nightmare. basically, the shorter the runtime from the outset, the more care I can take in polishing what's there, and I don't have to worry about axing entire stretches to make it digestible, etc. you'll notice that the editing is really meticulous in the first 30 minutes and after Toups and TMFK come in (and the technical difficulties caused by that many people roll in with them) the editing kind of slid down a level to allow me to finish in a reasonable span of time. I would say that you guys should shoot for no more than 60 minutes per an episode of actual discussion - but again I think you guys are already on the same page here.
that aside, with just a little more effort and attention to detail I think this can actually be made into a good product that people would voluntarily listen to! so keep on with it. I've certainly known people to get really excited over some (pretty mundane) popular podcasts, whereas this was pretty fun to follow for the most part, even from the editor standpoint. the good material isn't anywhere as pedestrian as BBP is trying to imply - there actually is a good episode here, if obscured by length and technical difficulties.
I'll make another post tomorrow regarding some specific technical details that I wanted to mention for the benefit of future attempts, like uh, micing yourself

I like the idea of M&B, but cutting out our main man on that one is harsh-sauce. What else have we been plying recently?
ODST? Halo came up a lot last podcast. _________________

If you guys do Halo, you should try and get Dracko in there to round it out, right? And isn't falsedan a fan? I feel like Halo would be a good topic to try a pass at fleshing out with a semi-planned structure, preliminary meeting, and maybe some research, since it's a game that has been discussed to death (though often in a rudimentary fashion). _________________ "Godzilla could be anyone."

Yeah, take my name off the list. We have plenty of people, and I don't know anything about Halo. Though Pi, I think you should keep your spot, since you've brought up Halo in both of the previous meet ups. You obviously have some stuff to say about it! _________________ "Godzilla could be anyone."

The People Who Are Participating This Week:
Do you guys feel comfortable with doing some preliminary discussion and working out a show structure? Since a lot of you are going to be first timers, you might rather just do the bullshit session style of the previous two meet ups, but it might be time to start trying to structure this thing and learning from our failures in that department. _________________ "Godzilla could be anyone."

here is a link to download an edited version of the first cast, in mono to cut down on the file size:

halo is good since i don't have terribly much to say about it, although weirdly i count myself a huge fps fan. never really had an xbox is the thing i guess. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

OK, Cuba, we will wait for you.
You should play Halo, cuba, but only on an xbox. I'd be interested to see what you'd think of it. Get an original xbox cheap and a buddy to play it with. |

oh i've played it a bit here and there and definitely enjoy it, enough anyway to see where intelligent people are coming from when they talk about it. but i haven't delved deep enough to form many opinions of my own. as far as getting an xbox and a buddy, well, yeah, that's the problem isn't it.

m&b is going well, though I have not had enough time to delve into it yet. :(
I want to. Tonight after i go pick up my car that DIDN'T GET REPAIRED (ugh, rage).
Cuba, it is too bad you live in Washington and I have no excuse to be there, because I would play through Halo 1-3 with you no problem. |

if we're doing Halo next time I'll have to sit out (think I've got a show this sunday, anyway), cause I've only played bits of the first one (which was awesome but would always fuck up right after that island level).
I'd try and do a play right now but my xbox is dead so :( _________________

like I said though, I was extremely conservative with what I cut this time around. If we decided on a more or less official running time then I would happily cut off-topic content as necessary. _________________
