|
|
http://www.stfj.net/art/2009/loselose/
Lose/Lose is a video-game with real life consequences. Each alien in the game is created based on a random file on the players computer. If the player kills the alien, the file it is based on is deleted. If the players ship is destroyed, the application itself is deleted.
so what do you guys think about this? it seems like its trying to say something profound but isn't quite there yet _________________ Someday somethings coming

i haven't tried it for obvious reasons but it sounds like they made their argument just as effectively with the description on the site of what it means and what they're trying to convey?
not that i think it sounds all that clever anyway. _________________

this kind of reminds me of this (possibly not real) russian reality show I once heard about where uh, basically they give the contestant a car, then they call the cops on them, and if the contestant can evade the cops, he gets to keep the car. _________________

How to win this game? Clearing it without killing any alien or losing a ship?
The game is somewhat lacking some kind of reward. Like adding new files when you're good. _________________ Select Button

Oh man what if you could upload shit to their servers or something and then anytime anyone somewhere in the world hit certain score markers, or level counts or whatever, they'd get a random new file downloaded to their computer from the database?
That'd be pretty cool. _________________ [img:074899cc9a]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/Decinoge/REV_WEEK/negativedge_sig.gif[/img:074899cc9a] |

Man this sounds almost as much fun as the game where you open your computer's case up and start hitting the hard drive with a hammer until it stops working. IGN gave it an 8.9. _________________

| I think the point is something along the lines of the recent ABDN review of Uncharted. A videogame where there are consequences to killing your enemy. I think as a work of art, it doesn't really matter than nobody will play it, anymore than it matters when Christian Lacroix makes a piece of clothing that nobody will ever wear. |

I think the game is some kind of market strategy that forces the players to buy a new computer that doesn't have any important files on it and can easily be re-formatted. _________________ Select Button

this is kind of a funny idea that one might arrive at with friends while innebriated
but generally, at some point, it's established that it's just a funny idea and no one actually goes out and makes it. |

Sounds more fun than 'C:\format c \y'.
I like the way the high score table starts with a few really high scores, then just plummets down to a bunch of people who shot one alien and then quit. I picture them not taking it seriously at first, but as soon as they kill that first one, the worry beneath the surface pops up and they quickly close the game. Then they spend an hour or so meticulously combing their files and collections, trying to find out if one little file is truly GONE FOREVER. _________________

Brutal File Manager did the same thing (well, basically) and had a mode where you didn't really kill your files. Nuff said. _________________

Man, PSDoom is a really fascinating idea.
Although, it seems like it might be a bad idea to give computers a paradigm that establishes the user as a threat, in the off chance they ever become self-aware. |

This sounds far more interesting.
loselose doesn't have enough balls. What they really need to do is tether it to an awful timed trial-game bit that kills the game after about 3 minutes (counting time possibly spent looking at the options menu,) AND installs malicious crap onto the user system. The game will refuse to delete said files. |

| as in literally bad feedback. you do something the game wants you to do and are punished for it. this could of course create a negative feedback loop, but I don't think this game is sophisticated enough to do anything like that. |

Not exactly a new thing, I'd say. Like, Driving Emotion Type-S did this as well. The negative feedback as well as the player dissonance thing, the "avatar" never went in the direction you actually wanted.
But this is the point of buzzwords then, always claiming something that was around years before, heh. _________________
