Heads up so that its not forgotten:
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier is out now on PS2 and PSP.
I will definitely be playing this as I love the Jak games and am also curious to play one not helmed by Naughty Dog.
But, I must hold off because I've been doing a lot of buying lately and need to save something for Christmas time because my parents get pissy if I don't have anything for them send to me.
Anyway, if one doesn't exist by then, I will make a thread on it. I will be playing the PS2 version as I don't own a PSP.
The PS2 version is $10 cheaper than the PSP version. |

It will be terrible. It's made by the people who made the atrocious PSP Ratchet and Clank game. There's a demo for the PSP version, but I haven't tried it yet.

So what was the point of using their spiffy HD RingWide hardware then?
At least I can take solace in the fact that this will be the only new arcade game that places around here might actually buy. |

Man what the fuck
Why go to all the effort of publicising it when it looks exactly the same? I mean, not including the fact that it doesn't have Model 1* clipping, but come on.

Kind of a big deal: The Unreal 3 Engine is now free. As in, you can have the complete dev kit for nothing and legally create and distribute an original Unreal 3 game. This also opens a safe, alternate licensing route for those who want to try for a profit, as long as they are willing to fork over a lot of that profit in the event of big success. It's a risk/reward thing for startups who can't afford the actual license, I guess. Also, this will mean a lot of "mods" that we can all download and play in the future even if we don't own Unreal or whatever it is that is being modded.
Here's the Rock Paper Shotgun post:
| Quote: |
| Following the news that Unity3D went free for its indie package, Epic announce that you can now use the Unreal Development kit for non-commercial uses. Crikey. Reading the licentiate details, if you actually want to go commercial it’s in exchange for a 25% of revenue after your first $5000. Which is a hefty slice, of course… but considering how much an actual full licence for Unreal is, it’s still has to be tempting. Examples of how this could change stuff? Obvious stuff: mods for Unreal no longer would require you to buy a game. As long as a team makes everything, you can just distribute them… and you have to wonder whether now because they can do it, they’ll try to monetize them. Other random prediction: teams trying to remake classics like Deus Ex. Which will never be completed, but the thought’s there. |

No sign of dual-wielding, a shield/health system and what seems to be at least vague squad indicators?
Yeah, sounds like a potential classic in the making, this one. _________________

Nvidia is ceasing chipset (motherboard) development until it settles a dispute with Intel over licensing. Intel is allegedly making false claims that Nvidia feels effectively block marketability of its chipsets.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nvidia-Chipset-Nehalem-Core-i7,8810.html
NOTE: Nvidia is still making graphics cards. This is regarding motherboard chipsets only. Still important though because After VIA lost their highend edge, Nvidia was the only REAL choice for AMD for a long time until ATI recently made strides and became a viable third option. Now it looks like its just going to be ATI and Intel for awhile. ATI is now owned by AMD, so its effectively AMD and Intel running their own shows. Weird... |

To be fair, retailers order X amount of units based on the amount they think they can sell. How much actual money is involved (wholesale price, retailer credit, etc) though is anyone's guess. |

| Maybe everyone already saw this and I'm just late to the party, but all the Oddworld games are going to be coming out for the PC, and they're targeting a winter release, which means Stranger's Wrath will be playable without requiring you to hook up an old console. The news came from an interview with Lorne Lanning. I've really wanted to play Stranger's Wrath for a long time now, but I never had an original Xbox until recently so I've never really had a means to play it. |

Yep, this was posted in the news thread at some point. I am excited for precisely the same reason! God, I hope the ports are good. |

I don't think the Eidos name itself is really a marketable studio.
Yeah, Tomb Raider was strangely good for their bottome line, but saying "the guys who made Tomb Raiders" was probably only a notable bullet in like 1996. |

It's too bad that the brand is untenable, because "Eidos", taken objectively, is the coolest name for a game studio I could think of. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Apparently Taito/Square/Enix has dug through their collective drawers and remembered they have another jRPG property that has been gathering dust all these years.
I am betting this new Lufia will probably debut on one of the handheld consoles since nobody is willing to spend money to develop an 80 hour RPG on a modern console. I never did play the Lufia on GBA now that I think about it. Did anyone? _________________
