I am really excited. Pretty glad the gamenetosphere has actually been pushing for this one, probably sites like Kotaku have been instrumental in getting it localized. Justice is done. Let's all buy it please

Yeah except there are approximately 2 billion good games releasing in late Q1 2010. A lot of people might otherwise buy it will probably pass thanks to that.

I'm pleased to get a localized Yakuza 3, but I'm not pleased with the timing of the release. It kind of sets up the excuse for Sega to NOT localize the even more awesome looking Yakuza 4.

mega man 10.

http://kotaku.com/5422828/mega-man-10-revisits-retro-or-the-rise-of-sheep-man

keeps the 8-bit retro look, which is a little bit of a shame considering i thought they were just doing that for 9 for the fuck of it. was hoping for a newer 2D HD flavor, but eh, no matter. i still enjoy the old style.

that cover artwork is nothing short of spectacular, though.

maybe it will tie directly into mega man x?

Murakami's sheepman has finally joined Wily's robot army.

Animal bosses is Megaman X's thing, combined with the overall direction of that cover I think Capcom is hinting something here. :)

The "cover" is from the Nintendo Power story, and looks like a contract job. That is to say, not Capcom's work.

Probably stating the obvious, sorry :<

I like Mega Man 9 a lot. Looking forward to this!

Dunno, I don't read Nintendo Power outside of a few scans but the shantae stories always have Wayforward artwork, for example. Plus looking at the sig it's made by the same guy who made the MM9 cover.

I remember when that was released, made me real sad. Here's to hoping...

A metrovania remake would be....bizarre, but I almost wanna see it. Just don't end up like Order of Ecclesia or something...

Or perhaps a remake/tightening of that weird NES Valis port.

Well, in all honesty I prefer the original black and white version with hand drawn visuals, but this is still cool.

It's actually not much of a game, there is no goal, you just explore a imaginative world, clicking things to see what happens, playing with the little toys scattered about and meet a bunch of friendly creatures on the way. It was designed for kids in mind, and that's when I played it, but I still think it's a fun title to just jump in and dick around in and relax. It's got CHARM.

Manhole was basically a circa 2002/2003 "click on things to see what weird shit they do" Flash game - that sounds like a belittling description now, but it's actually an attempt to tap into any distant memories you might have of a time when such flash "storybooks" were actually new and fascinating instead of predictable and tiresome.

There were things like it over the years (like Panic! and various other exploration-heavy adventure games), but in the sheer sense of "this leads to this, then that, and over here...." discovery, it was over a decade ahead of it's time. In the proper context, it recalls a lot of the wonder of the first few Disney World-like rides you experience as a child - things that you only dimly recognize as commercial endeavors and at the immediate moment feel like adventures you are personally taking part in. It also evokes the same general concept we have of fantasy worlds as a child - places which are strange in that they contain unreal and amazing things we can't experience in the real world, but also safe because they are related to us in comfort and we are not old enough to conceive of wonder and danger co-existing.

(or basically the age of "I want to go be a knight and slay dragons", not the age of "now that I think about it, a dragon would totally fuck my shit up")

I hope I'm explaining this well.

I think you mistyped your "circa" by 15 years. Especially because you go on to say that this game was 10 years ahead of its time.

I played the original hypercard version 15 years ago, and it's kinda cute, like an edugame with no edu. The guys who made it went on to make Myst, which someone else might've already mentioned but I didn't see it anywhere. Myst is very similar to the Manhole, except the Manhole has characters to interact with and Myst has a goal.

Have a biscuit, baby.

Yeah, when I play TF2 the one thing I think is, "You know what this game really needs, is more incentives to play Soldier and Demo."

Yes, that is the impression that that sentence gives. I knew that wasn't what you meant, but that is what is conveyed.

Diablo 2 getting patched again

They put in skill respec and the ability to create hardcore characters without having to beat the game.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Patch 1.13
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new Mystery has been revealed!

- Players of Hell Difficulty Realm games are hereby warned once again,
that a series of new and challenging tests await you! The answer lies
within Diablo's Bosses, which span across the world from the Den of Evil
to the Throne of Destruction...

Major Bugs

- Fixed an item dupe bug.
- Video improvements for Intel Mac machines with OS 10.5 or greater.

Minor Bugs

- Uber Mephisto now checks for both Uber Baal and Uber Diablo to be killed before spawning summoned minions (Before he would only check for Uber Baal).
- The game will no longer stop and then restart the game music after the window loses and then regains focus.
- Fixed an issue where the game window would minimize when running in windowed mode when it lost focus.
- Fixed an issue where the game window wouldn't center properly when it was created.

Specific changes/improvements

- Respecialization is now possible! Completing the 'Den of Evil' quest will now additionally reward 1 free respec which can be saved. Players who have already completed this quest should receive 1 free respec in Hell difficulty.
- Increased the drop rate of high runes.
- Support for blit scaling in windowed mode. The game can now be maximized to the largest 4:3 resolution supported (hooray widescreen users).
- Some rare drop items now have an orange color. i.e. Runes and items required for Uber Tristam.
- Modified the gold bank limit to be a flat cap not bound by level.
- Nightmare/Hell WilloWisps champions/uniques have had their damage greatly reduced.
- Removed the requirements to create a hardcore character.
- Greatly reduced the explosion damage dealt by Fire Enchanted monsters.
- Uber Mephisto and Uber Baal's summoned minions no longer give experience.
- Removed Oblivion Knight's Iron Maiden curse.
- Hellfire Torch Firestorm proc rate has been reduced to 5%.
- Users can now toggle the display of text over the Health and Mana globes by clicking on the bottom area of each orb.
- Updated two Act 5 mercenary names to Klar and Tryneus.
- When creating a single player game, pressing the 'Enter' key now automatically creates a Hell difficulty game if possible.
- When creating a game, each difficulty button is now bound to a unique key: Normal 'R', Nightmare 'N', and Hell 'H'.
- The 'Enter Chat' Button in the battle.net waiting room is now bound to the 'Enter' key.
- Added the windows system buttons to the game window (MIN, MAX, CLOSE).
- Added new command line parameter '-nofixaspect' which allows users to not fix the aspect ratio to 4:3 when maximizing windowed mode. This lets the game 'stretch' to fill your monitor.
- Added support for '-sndbkg' command line switch. This enables sound in background.
- Added support for '-nosound', '-window', and '-windowed' command line options.

Revised Skill balance for Player Character classes

Amazon

-Immolation Arrow - Increased radius of Explosion effect by 33% and Immolation effect by 50%.

why would someone release a novel based on a 24 year old videogame that hardly anyone remembers?

*yawns*

The protagonist's suit looks a lot less bulky this time, so in turn, I'm expecting the controls to be smoother. Unlike Silent Hill, this is one series that would lose absolutely nothing by getting rid of its sluggish controls.

Unless one skied, in which case they were like linebackers who could leap a canyon at high-speed. And in Tribes, if you weren't skiing, you weren't playing the game right.
