To be fair, Deus Ex also had a mission structure. _________________

See, that's nice and all, but they better make with the gameplay soon as well.
I'd likely be willing to give this more of a chance if it had no relation to Deus Ex, honestly. _________________

You don't play a Mikami game expecting good dialogue or even plot.

Pretty decent, actually. It's a straight FPS, mind you, so don't go in expecting much more. _________________

Hope there'll be a demo, though. Want to know how exactly it plays, considering the pace.
Further to Deus Ex... _________________

Mechner was only involved with Sands of Time, and wrote the plot to it.
It's little surprise it's the only one of the reboots that's actually worth a damn, warts and all.
I too am getting BioShock impressions from this. I really hope they make with some gameplay soon. _________________

No, I wouldn't call it a parody just because it has a few cracks at GLOBAL POLITICS TM.
Let's not kid ourselves; we didn't play that game for the story. _________________

Will only work if it focuses solely on driving.
Which it won't, because UbiSoft.

No, I think it's a valid concern considering how distracting those things are even in the hands of good developers. _________________

Ah, figured as much. Was hoping for more clues, is all.
When I saw the live-action trailer, I remember being pretty hopeful to see a Japanese take on Halo (Maybe Keiji Inafune could get round to doing that, huh?).
This is looking pretty spruce and to the point so far.
You reckon the folks at Epic might take note of this? _________________

The different character endings were pretty hilarious.
Surprised no comic spin-offs came out of it, though. _________________

# There’s no wonky-donkey-aiming. You start aiming at your ability, and get boosted from there. In short, you start competent rather than incompetent and only get better.
# Linking to that, they’ve ended up merging skills and augmentations. It’s worth reading the full answer on this one, at least, half way down the page. Basically, they had both to start with and thought they were getting in the way of each other, so they merged skills into augmentations. Interestingly, they appear to work on a hybrid of money and experience points. So you can use money to buy the off-the-shelf basic augmentations, but the higher level abilities are activated with XP. And there’s lots of other stuff to spend money on. Like guns.
# Despite the fact the game is more violent, they talk about not wanting to just glorify violence. They want to make it about player choice, rather than forcing the player into the macho role. And people will respond to violence as violence – cowering from guns and similar.
# Hacking seems to be inspired by Uplink, with you trying to bounce between nodes before you’re traced.
# The prequel looks more advanced than Deus Ex because they think the real world looks more advanced than Deus Ex now. They use the example of the TV screens DX uses being so tiny and non wide-screen. |

Which might never happen, considering the director of 2009 Fame spent a whole shitload of money on an unauthorized pitch to try to get people to give him money so he can turn Mortal Kombat into Se7en.
Also he might get sued. _________________

As for exchanging pleasantries, veiled threats and open threats with the people you meet, there'll be the usual question-and-answer sessions, but when you need to persuade a character, you will enter a game of verbal sparring.
Take the encounter with the barman in Shanghai's Hive nightclub for an example - a scarred, Asian 50-something with an augmented right hand. You're looking for and must correctly read your new friend's (quite brilliant) facial animation as you choose between 'pinpoint', 'insist' and 'threaten' from four different options. |
of all the things to copy from oblivion... |
Yeah, but this:
| Quote: |
On how the sparring dialogue gameplay works alongside the usual question and answer...
"It's not complex, that's not the right word. But it's deeper than Mass Effect. In Mass Effect you can skip through dialogue, and ours isn't the usual way to do conversation.
"We wanted to have a form of social fighting, as you can see with Tong in our demo. You need information, and you have to read the character in front of you to deliver the right response to continue, and win the round. You have three rounds, he will have three counter-attacks. You can succeed, fail or have a neutral response. If you restart the conversation, it will move on to a completely different one. You can't learn the path. It's complex to code, very complex!" |
Actually sounds very, very promising if they manage to pull it off. _________________

Anyone tried the War for Cybertron multiplayer demo yet?

In spite of the XTs looking suitably alien, this is looking very average at the moment.
They should probably show more of the game that doesn't involve plinking blobs. _________________
