Unknown whether it's Irem-developed or another outsourced Western job like Dimensions.

Tozai Games includes a Japanese, ex-Irem staff member (Scott Tsumura, Chief Advisor / Executive Producer). I'm pretty sure that it wasn't "outsourced", and instead they approached Irem about it.

Unless I'm mistaken and you're referring to Southpeak. As I understand it, the Tozai Games/Southpeak partnership has Southpeak doing a lot of the dirty work but most of the high level decision making actually comes from the Tozai Games side. For example, with Lode Runner all the levels were designed by Tozai Games' Brett Ballow, but art sound and programming were done by Southpeak.

At any rate, Dimensions is about as close to being made by the Irem of old as it would have been had modern Irem developed it.

(Sorry, I'm sort of a Tozai Games fanboy.)

Do you happen to know what the relationship between From Software and Irem is? I assumed Spelunker dude being in the game was a case of "hey we love your stuff can we borrow him", but I really have no clue. Maybe Sony set it up?

That I don't know (and if you find out please share). But I can say that, unlike wikipedia's claim to the contrary, Spelunker HD (released for PSN in Japan already and coming soon to North America) seems to have been actually handled by Tozai. You can see it right on the title screen. I don't really have details on this though, I'm just going on that and a tweet from their company twitter.

Tetris has gone moe.

Not exactly for the first time.

Or even more relevantly, Arika has gone there before with Tetris with Carcaptor Sakura: Eternal Heart.

Supposedly it's just that one mode in TGM4 that is moe. The rest should be the same as ever, albeit with a less manly nature theme.

Namco Bandai VP Says Games are too expensive, foams at the mouth, begins talking to cutlery while the orderlies move in

He says...

Music has retail and concerts.
Movies have retail and theaters.
Games have retail and nothing else.

Namco has truly given up on arcades. ;_;

The achievement list for KOF Sky Stage just went up... and from the looks of things, it appears that it'll just be a straight arcade port (none of the extra stuff from Neo Geo Shooting Heroes on PSP).

Which isn't to say that they won't release it as DLC.

The XBLA stuff is worldwide, and the disc releases are only announced for the Japanese market so far.
