The "cover" is from the Nintendo Power story, and looks like a contract job. That is to say, not Capcom's work.

Probably stating the obvious, sorry :<

I like Mega Man 9 a lot. Looking forward to this!

sting :shakefist:

And we still don't have an answer to the obvious question of how the fuck do you play Knights in the Nightmare on a PSP

The voice acting in that trailer sure seems fine to me.

I'm really intrigued by the supposedly very serious hard SF second-half of Infinite Space. Guess we'll see.

Gunblade is all right though. One of the few games I could just about 1CC though it has the standard Sega lightgun bullshit of just throwing stuff at you near the end of the game so you would just fly through lives and credits.

My big problem with this game is that the camera is completely schizophrenic and tends to get stuck in the floor randomly while invisible enemies shoot at you.

Rumor is that XSeed is going to announce a bunch of awesome Falcom games in the next week or two. Here's hoping.

I interpreted "no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form" as "the industrialized society necessary to create video games will collapse within the near future presumably leading to your deaths," which is pretty metal.

By the way, Ebert's blog entry prior to the games art thing is really fun.

Kevin Gifford translated a really interesting interview between Kenji Eno and the head of Famitsu concerning review scores. It's from 1997, but damn. He's pretty much got a monopoly on awesome shit like this.

Has anyone mentioned that XSeed is localizing most of Falcom's awesome PSP catalog yet?

Is the PSP port of Felghana actually any good?

Falcom learned their lesson with VI and did the port job themselves, as far as I can tell. It's fine.

Amazingly bad load times if you're running off a UMD, and the voice acting was removed. Rip the iso and you should be fine, I'm guessin'.

I'm guessing this means it should get some major enhancements, it's probably a hard sell as a full retail game otherwise.

Their audience consists of people who bought a 360 for Oratorio Tangram. Something tells me they'll pay for a retail game.

I will be shocked, shocked, if the music in that trailer is not virt's. Since, y'know, he's their sound guy now and all that.

Can anyone translate the Japanese subtitles on that video, please?

They're more or less what you'd expect, but here goes:

0:02 -- Introduction to ARS tactics

0:05 -- Cover Actions are fundamental to your survival. They allow you to attack enemies while remaining safely behind cover.

0:14 -- Don't pop out for too long, though, or you could find yourself in a world of hurt.

0:17 -- Distant enemies can be difficult to hit...

0:24 -- ...But aim a little, and you'll be shooting with confidence.

0:27 -- You can hurdle over cover to advance across the battlefield.

0:33 -- Liberal use of evasive action/quick roll/whatever will keep you safe in the face of imminent danger

0:43 -- If the enemy lets up, take the opportunity to go in for some hand-to-hand combat.

0:52 -- Don't let up until the very end!

0:56 -- That's all for now, gentlemen. Good luck, and good hunting!

I'm psyched to try out Vanquish myself. I think it would be really cool if you actually had just eight hours to get to the ending of the game, and no matter where you were in the story the game would end once the eight hour mark was reached. So it would basically encourage you to keep replaying and trying until you were capable of a "perfect" run and were able to see the entire story play out over those eight hours.

I love games that do stuff like this (SOS/Serpentrion, Prince of Persia, the Segata Sanshiro mode in Sega Ages 2500 Dynamite Deka, etc.), but something tells me we won't see it in Vanquish :|

Maybe a separate mode?

Soldier - I'm not quite sure I'm getting the proper machine translation of the Soldier description (大小さまざまな「人間用兵器」を扱う白兵戦のエキスパート。) . It seems to say that regardless of size, a Soldier is a "human weapon" that is powerful in close combat. I think it's clearer to simply state that Soldiers traditionally are the best combatants while on foot, but not so much when using vehicles (I'm not sure they can even use them). I honestly have no idea what the Soldiers in the trailer are doing - they seem to be holding a hat over their heads....?

人間用兵器 literally means "human-use armaments" -- Basically, the line just says Soldiers are well-versed in the use of large and small arms, and experts in hand-to-hand combat. No mention of being unable to ride vehicles, though.

When I see Cave announce all these games I just assume Aksys probably has that shit locked up. Or they're just going to release Deathsmiles II and nothing else. Boy, that would suck!
