More like hexakaidecatris the grand master 4.
The mo~e objects still aren't half as distracting as Sega Tetris' Beijing stage with the hundreds of bicycles zooming past at mach 1.7. |

Yeah it was LOUD. It's pretty ridiculous how many FPS have shitty realistic stapler gun sound effects, actually. Didn't any of these people play Goldeneye?
Even Halo with its trillion dollar budget has that crummy stock sound effect for its assault rifle that sounds like someone drumming on a basketball. |

sounds like they're doing some MMORPG (MMOAXXION) thing?
And that plus any spinoffs will be exclusively published by Activision. Which is still significantly more involved with Activision than I'd want my studio to be but there's nothing stopping them from developing other stuff for other publishers. |

Because I love me some first person RPG inventory-em-ups and the only flaw in Fallout 3 mods couldn't fix was the generally fanfic-ish level of writing. Obsidian on the other hand are capable of at least a Wheel-of-Time-ish embarrassing fantasy novel level of writing. That and the fact they're pretty much the closest thing to Black Isle we have left are sufficient to invoke the froth.
I was fact checking the wiki on Obsidian to be sure Troika wasn't actually 90% of Black Isle and found out they are actually doing a fucking Wheel of Time game. Obsidian, not Troika. As a reformed Wheel of Time fan I'm not sure what to think of this |

I remember hating the other one back when I was all up on that shit, mainly because this was like 2003 and the game was looking ancient and ridiculous by then.

What was the last Ace Combat with blue skies, didn't the series leave the arcades behind with the 2nd installment?
|
It's more of a blue-skies in spirit thing. Ace Combat was about dancing with the angels, not murdering folks.
Even if the stories gradually got more 'WAR IS HELL MMKAAY?' they were all told in such a ridiculously melodramatic way that it never really connected with me that there were people in these hundreds of fighter jets I was swatting out of the sky. |

I've played neither of the original really blue skies arcadey ones but 3 is pretty amazing. The Japanese version had a ton of anime cutscenes and cute characters and all that, all of which was cut for the EU/US, but all of the missions carried over intact. So you get this totally serious army dude voice-over briefing you to fly into the internet and have a dogfight with a rogue AI. And at one point you fly an arctic-white SR-71 rigged as an attack bomber.
All the PS2 ones kind of run together to be honest, I can see where they're coming from in wanting to change things up with this new AC even if I disagree with the direction they seem to have picked. They're still all really good though.
The 360 one is prettiest but has a bullshit final level even considering how bullshit final levels are something of an Ace Combat hallmark. |

The last level of Ace Combat 6 was the one where you fly down the barely F15-sized urethra barrel of a laser cannon only there are goddamn Starfox-ish partitions in there and son of a bitch I'm piloting something that needs to stay above 600kph to avoid dropping like a brick here AAARGH. And then when you fail you have to do the six minute approach flight again.
It's entirely possible that I just suck at Acing the Combats but no other part of the game or of any of its predecessors for that matter has ever given me anywhere close to this much trouble. |

Also, six minutes? Did you have checkpoints turned off or something?
The finale in Ace Combat 5 was more problematic. |
There's supposed to be checkpoints? I just got dumped back to the start of the mission every time.
EDIT: weird, guides are saying there should be two checkpoints between mission start and the point where you go into the gun. |

I always assumed modern region-locking happened when a publisher has no plans/ability to do a worldwide release so they buy cheaper local publishing rights but agree to region lock them so the developer can still sell another region's rights to some other publisher. |

Yeah but its useful life as a serious gaming machine will be three years at maximum. 2005's greatest GPU wouldn't even be that terrible today (a 7900 or X1800XT) but man you'd have a Pentium goddamn four in there or an Athlon 64x2 3200 if you were really lucky. Either of those would get its ass kicked by the original Left 4 Dead.
Edit: personally even though I'm current hardware-wise I don't enjoy gaming behind a desk much. It feels like work. I've got my TV hooked up but most games are super-awkward about joypads so all I end up doing is watching videos and playing MAME via a stick-controlled frontend. |
