as of thirty minutes ago, it hit me:
fever, headache, lethargy, body aches, sore throat.
wow. just came on like a rollercoaster.
might be the flu? people keep saying there's a flu going around. they might be right.
i have drunk about a gallon of cold green tea in the last twenty minutes to try to slow down this train and i don't think it's going to work.
discuss folk remedies for colds here please. _________________

that's kind of ironic because i drank a vitamin C water thing at lunch time. it was supposed to have 700 times the recommended daily allowance or some shit.
secretary took my temperature, and i'm at 103

I don't believe in folk remedies for colds once you get them.
You can stave colds off with vitamins and stuff, maybe.
But once you get 'em, just let them run its course... my general solution is to watch movies, and take lots of medication so I can't feel anything until its gone. |

My Dad's friend has these pills he brings from India, which you take to nip colds in the bud, when you feel you might get one.
They really work! |

| I had a cold/flu type thing earlier this winter. I was the only one in the house that took vitamin c and drank orange juice. I didn't take anything else. Everyone else in the house was telling me "That doesn't work!!! Blahblah" I kept my faith. I was sick only three days (My fever getting up to 106 at one time. D:) while the rest of my family was sick for about two weeks! |

oh ya remedies... well if your congested then a hot bath might help clear it up a bit. maybe.
I dont really know about remedies, I havnt had a cold since I started drinking self-squeezed orange juice... like, 4 years ago. |

You should eat something that is fat before drinking those vitamin-thingies in order for the vitamin C to be "stored" in your body rather than being lost when you have a slash afterwards.
Alternatively, take a spoonful of olive oil.
[edit]
at least that's what a teacher told me once. No idea if that helps, but him being a chemistry-teacher, I think I can trust that hint. _________________

I don't really get sick anymore.
Recommendation: try to stay away from people who are sick. It seems to be working for me. _________________ go away extralife

I use a non-vegetarian friendly cure.
Chicken broth + miso + cut garlic + some scallions + finely cut jalapenos = delicious eats. I then eat a hard boiled egg so I can have a full belly before darting off for the morning grind. Protein is positive!
Also Ginger tea with fennel seeds and cinnamon (I have to find uses for the random spices I have laying around) tastes real nice.
Other than that I just snack on a ton of random fruits (fuck juice, too much sugar and cals), drink a bunch of water, and avoid dairy (phlegm thickening).
I then cap off the night with a shot of Nyquil since otherwise, I forget to sleep. Sleep is pretty important. _________________

Me too :(
I plan on taking it easy today, as nothing terribly important is going on in my classes. I'm going to eat Vietnamese food later. This should help. |

Yeah, I've had a nasty cold and sinus infection all week. I've just been taking acetaminophen, vitamin c, chicken soup, etc., but last night I decided to go ahead a cut up a couple of cloves of raw garlic and add it to some hummus (with a sprinkling of basil to counteract the garlic stinkbreath), and it seems to have done me a world of good. I'm not back to 100% yet, but I feel better! _________________

SOUNDS like the flu.
Pretty much keep the fluids going (water, juices with not a whole lot of sugar) and get some rest.

yeah i just make sure to take my echanatia now and then and that does wonders for the immune system.
other than that... chicken noodle soup is the closest thing to a 'folk' remedy I've ever heard of.

a mixture of about 5 grams of vitamin c a day and some fever reducer/antihistamine will do wonders. the vitamin c isn't going to get rid of the cold, but it will, most certainly, shorten the duration of it. this has been proven medically. it needs to be in high amounts though.
a couple of cc lemons should do it just fine.
we're talking being sick a week, and being sick a few days. _________________

yeah i dont even need to feel guilty because my "job" just involves looking at the internet and shit, which i can do at home, and they all have my cell phone number, so hmmm
still, it felt so fucking weird to be taking a shower at one PM with a terrible headache and then stepping outside and going WOW -- beautiful weather
and then getting on the train and being able to sit down on the way to work
i'm going to make that udonnnnnnnnnnnnnnn _________________
