Seriously, there is an interesting game for virtually every system releasing this week. Even the fucking DREAMCAST.

DC - Trigger Heart
360 - Crackdown (I scoffed, but the demo changed my mind)
Wii - Sonic and the Secret Rings
PS3 - Virtua Fighter 5
PS2 - Real Bout Fatal Fury Collection (Japan only, but hey - first ever port of the excellent Real Bout 2!)
PSP - Monster Kingdom
DS - Izuna (probably the weakest game mentioned, but knowing this forum's love for Mysterious Dungeon games it might be worthwhile)

March is busy as hell too. I better get another job now.

The NeoGeo CD received a port of RB2. Granted, it seems to be a bit rare, but it exists!

Well, yeah but... I never really count the Neo CD games as "ports". MVS, AES, Neo CD - they're all SNK systems. And even on Neo CD, the content is identical other than the added loading times. Maybe on a strictly technical level Neo CDs are "ports", but I'm talking mainstream non-SNK consoles here.

At any rate, I'm gonna be very glad to have RB2 again in *ahem* legit form. My AES cart got a hell of a lot of play, but it was a sacrifice in the great "pay for tuition" firesale of 2000.

Edit: I see you were talking about gaming (in general), I suppose that's allowed then. But really, Sonic? Does that even count? For any system?

Sure it counts. I said "interesting". And you must admit, if anything we here at SB do find talking about Sonic interesting, whether it's ideas of how to not make a new Sonic that sucks or just general whining. But this Wii game from many accounts is actually pretty good and gets some of the "old Sonic" feeling. Hell, I'm pretty excited about it. It's the only currently released Wii game that I really want, and I'll almost certainly buy it with my system whenever I get around to picking one up.

To tell you the truth I'd be pretty pleased if all they published were Megaten games and just made some more copies. That's the only stuff of their's I haven't been burned by.

Yeah, I really don't get this blind Atlus support either. I love me some SMT, and I'll be first in line to pick up my Persona 3, just like I was for Devil Summoner, Nocturne, and the DDS games. Hell, I'll grab Monster Kingdom on the strength of the SMT connection alone. So I guess you can call me a blind fanboy there.

But take a good look at some of Atlus's mediocre (is that a synonym for "niche" these days) recently published releases:
- Deep Labyrinth (ick)
- Metal Saga (eh, nothing special)
- Steambot Chronicles (have you thought about this game in the past 3 months?)
- Magna Carta (I actually like this game, but I'm pretty solidly in the minority I think)
- Atelier Iris 2 (distributed by Atlus for N1, and what a fantastically bland RPG)
- Contact got a lot of hype, but a lot of criticism after it let people down
- Riviera (some people like it, I think it's one of the most awful RPG releases of the past decade)

Now I'm not saying they're always bad. The Summon Night and SRW GBA releases were pleasant surprises, and Trauma Center was deservedly a bit of a sensation. You might disagree with me about some of the above games and think they're really good. But don't give me the "Atlus needs your support" bit. They know what they're doing, and they've been doing it for quite a while.

And frankly, I think they do perhaps deserve a lesson for putting out what seems to be an average at best roguelike and trying to sell it pretty hard with the wacky/pervy/zany/funny anime slant. Those ads really are horrendous. I'd much prefer better marketing support for the games that deserve it in the first place.

Is Persona 3 some incredible offering or something? It gets a lot of hype around these parts.

Well, most of us haven't played the Japanese release as far as I know. But people are getting excited based on the strength of previous Shin Megami Tensei games. There are a lot of fans of Persona 1&2, Nocturne, and the Digital Devil Saga games around here so the new game is getting some froth. General consensus from the Japanese version is that it's not a letdown at all, hence excitement.

Besides, it's cool to like SMT if you're some sort of hipster gamer type and we all know that's all selectbutton is anyway, right? (for the love of god please detect the sarcasm, people!)
