I honestly did not expect this game to be so damn good. Deadly Premonitions: Come because of the real-time beard growth, stay because of the complex symbolism. It is a worthy successor to Silent Hill 2. _________________

Most of which is lifted directly or indirectly from Twin Peaks, but still. |

i agree. i think it comes from how a lot of the characters are a bit loony or off, which often gives a conversation an absurd edge. or the ritualistic-like phrases. such as harry stewart's attendant closing every riddle with "so says mr. stewart"; it's similar to iwazaru ending all of his nonsense with "in the name of harman." |

Speaking of which, the pause menu is now my most favorite out of any game ever.
I don't think I had a favorite before, though. |

No planned US release - the Asian version also have Japanese text. There is hope that there will be an Asian rerelease with English, similar to Aquanauts Holiday. |

Ignition are considering a PS3 release, since the 360 version has done better than they expected it to, but I wouldn't hold your breath for it.
I bought this game solely on the design of the main character, without even hearing him speak. I thought it was the greatest videogame rendition of someone who is slightly mad, as they would appear in real life and not the exaggerated garbage you normally get from games. I wasn't disappointed, but instead amazed how well designed the rest of the cast is. |

| Not that I've heard, but a guy on NTSC-uk says the Asian PS3 version is like 92% in English, which is making me seriously tempted to import. I mean, are item descriptions that important? |

Everyone's a suspect until you meet them. Just like real life!
What IS kinda racist is that that guy is one of the only two black people in town, and he sells guns out of his garage in the middle of the night. But his primary purpose in the game is rewarding you for collecting trading cards, which isn't racist at all. It's also kinda balanced out by the fact that the other black guy is the town doctor. |

i didn't know people attacked david lynch for this, but i think it's pretty deserved. there are maybe 5 or 6 black people in his entire body of work and they are lucky if they get to appear in more than one scene. i nearly turned off wild at heart when the opening scene was nicky cage beating like the 2nd black guy david lynch has ever featured to death on screen in a really brutal and kind of glorified way. i mean i am glad i didn't because i liked that movie, i like pretty much everything by david lynch (apart from the fucking straight story), but the under representation of black people, or any ethnicity that isn't small town white, is really irritating. it's a shame because so much about david lynch is the best. that deadly premonition has any black characters in it at all is just another nice minor surprise about this game. i really can't wait to play it. |

Yeah, I was about to say, I wouldn't want him to talk about something he's clearly not that invested in. It would just come off wrong. _________________

Whoah, that's weird. The black side of my family has a few favorite movies (I'm mixed), and David Lynch's name is thrown around a lot for Eraserhead and Twin Peaks.
Did he ever say something or is it an accusation solely based on his body of work? _________________ I took my lucky break and I broke it in two |

There are (relatively few) small towns consisting of mostly African Americans, though. It would be interesting to see someone take those on. |

I think in the episode where Nadine is training to be on the high school wrestling team, her coach is black.
There's a few awkward instances in season 2 where they just kind of throw in a black extra in the name of being PC. _________________
