Really? Wow, I had the most trouble on the no rings one of the pirate ship. The spinning blades are so cheap on that one. And yeah, I laughed too, because the guy who did that layout is probably smiling now. Still, a sadistic motherfucker.

There's also a point in one of the Evil Foundry missions where you can't kill enemies and there's one of those force rings with spikes which springs you far and it's really hard to time it so you don't hit the wacktacular bouncing enemies ahead.

Explain, because I don't get it. An ending isn't related to gameplay at all, it's story, and he was answering what he would expect for the ending.

...What? For the record, I haven't played Sonic and the Secret Rings yet, but I've seen the endings for both Sonic Adventure games, and Sonic Heroes.

Edit: Do you not know what context clues are? Well, this is for you:
ZOMG SPOILARZ

I finally finished the game, and saw the ending. It doesn't seem that bad to me. Not as bad as Sonic Next, anyway. Shahara actually used Sonic the entire game to get the rings for Erazor Djinn. Also, Sonic's supposed "dying" was a mechanic of the entire game- You knew from the beginning that his life was running out when he got shot with the death arrow meant for Shahara. He doesn't actually die anywhere though, is the thing- unlike Next. It was just an impetus to get the world rings. I did like how he completely handed Erazor's ass to him, though, without trying to redeem him at all. Could we have done without all of the crying, though? Yes. But as far as characters go, Shahara > Elise. She's more like a less-annoying navi than anything; she's a genie and not human, so she's a ball of light most of the time.

Also, one of the things which struck me the most about the Sonic NEXT cutscenes was the fact that it looked like everyone kept pooping Chaos Emeralds out of their ass and then holding them up after compressing them (coal?) between their buttcheeks or something.

If this isn't sarcasm, and if you couldn't tell where I was going with the first few sentences of that paragraph, and beyond that, couldn't stop yourself from reading the rest even after realizing where I was going with it, then you need to learn yourself some self control. You also probably shouldn't be posting on Insert Credit Select Button, since people ruin far worse here. Hell, even in this thread.

I will however add something to make it entirely clear there are spoilers for the wanky wank wanks of wankerville, should you be a denizen and more of such visit here.

By the way, I just thought you'd like to know: Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.

Maybe you failed to comprehend this, you damned jackasses, but Sonic and the Secret Rings is a RECENT GAME. It's not even out in Europe yet, as far as I know, and I live there. So making idiotic excuses like "aerisdead" and "Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father" is besides the point.

Many people in this thread said things about the ending, but they didn't spoil anything. So no, it wasn't obvious that you were going to talk in detail about it. Also, do you think I read like a pre-schooler or something? You already gave away the entire premise of the game a couple sentences into the paragraph, before I could even think "Oh, looks like he's going into detail.".

Fuck you, you damned insensitive Internet assholes who don't give a shit about spoilers! I've had the surprise and wonder taken out of a lot of games that way.

BenoitRen wrote:

Dude, the entire premise of the game is you're a blue hedgehog who runs really fast. If you didn't know that already, then I'm sorry, I don't know what else to tell you. Anything else is wrapping.

If you want to get into the story premise, which I didn't reveal, and no one revealed, but is revealed in the first two revealing cutscenes, revealingly, well: Sonic is sucked into the story of the Arabian Nights and must collect the 7 world rings and restore the stories or he will die because he has this flame on his belly that was shot there ouch.

The biggest thing I ruined was that Erazor Djinn isn't redeemed in any way. Mind you, I didn't spoil the big (haha) revelations like, well, Erazor Djinn is really the genie from Aladdin's lamp, that the round clump of metal they find is actually Aladdin's lamp, or that Shahara's connection with him is well, I wasn't exactly sure on that myself. You won't be reading this post's spoilers, so I really don't need to try to figure it out, do I? The thing I /did/ reveal about Shahara is pretty obvious from the second cutscene, though, and isn't really explained all that well /in/ the cutscenes. Maybe the way I worded it made it sound more awesome and important than it actually was, and if so then, damn, I must write awesomely.

Also, looking back at my post, if 'It doesn't seem that bad to me. Not as bad as Sonic Next, anyway.' is ruining the premise of the game, then, wowzers. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt there, and taking 'couple' to mean '2 or 3.' If by then you didn't realize I was going to talk about it, I don't know what to say.

Anyway, arguing on the internet is like the special olympics and all that. I do apologize if this completely ruined your gaming experience with Sonic and the Secret Rings, but in all seriousness if this kind of thing irks you, you probably shouldn't read this particular forum.

I've never really seen these forums as too spoiler-warning heavy, anyway. Sometimes, text is black/grayed out, but not often. You usually have to judge the thread and what people are saying and go from there. Judging on the context of this thread, it seemed no one cared about spoilers that much, save for the single blacked text over gray one I just found that you could read anyway. I'm surprised you didn't flip out on him for revealing.. well, what he revealed. Or that people revealed what Sonic was doing in the last cutscene even.

My confusion revealed!!

Also, I don't know why it included that extra color tag, since the tags were correct. I re-edited it, though, and it seems to be fixed.

EDIT, SPOILZRARZ: I realize now that it's spelled Shahra and not Shahara.

I play for gameplay, and the story if there's some. The story is part of the game for me, no matter what genre it is.

The only point you get is that there's probably no one who plays Sonic games only for the plot/story.
Ashura wrote:

That's the series' premise and the gameplay's premise. The story is yet another.

You spoiled that Sonic was tricked into collecting those rings for the villain, which is what you do the entire game.

From what I've seen, people generally do announce or hide spoilers. Looks like some assholes are gathering in this thread who don't care about other people's story enjoyment. They should be shot. Ten times.

But you know that almost the whole game after one of the earliest cutscenes, so not really.

Which, again, also has nothing to do with the premise. The premise is, okay, I'll "spoil" the premise for you! I tagged it out before, but, damn, here we go. No spoiler space, so watch out people who don't read the back of the box!:

Sonic is sucked into the story of the Arabian Nights, and the evil Erazor Djinn is destroying the story page by page. As the legendary blue hedgehog hero of infinite speed you must put it back together or face the ultimate destruction!!

Now you can get angry at me for spoiling the premise. Go ahead. It might be cathartic.

Though, I'm not going to tell you if Sonic saves the universe in the end or not. Sorry.

I was going to say, actually, they should've called the game "Sonic and the Arabian Nights", but then that, also, might be too spoilerific!

That's like saying "People complaining about story spoilers in a Metroid game? Jesus.", while I'm sure there's more than one person here who would object to that.

The Deeper Meaning? Uh, okay.

Anyway, you know what? I already apologized, so we don't need to drag it out. I didn't intentionally ruin the game for you. The context of the thread noted that people weren't really covering spoilers, since I usually note them when I deem it necessary. But either way, I'm sorry I took a shit in your cereal bowl. If saying I'm sorry is not enough, then I don't know what else to do. It's like you want reparations or something. There are still some far more deserving people who are waiting for 40 acres and a mule, so there you go.

I will say if your first reply was more civil and less like a flippant jackass, you would've gotten a more civil reply in turn. It's funny in that you're really the only person who's never treated me at least decently here.

Either way, I'd rather get back on topic. So, just for you: Assume anything I write is going to have spoilers from now on. This is your warning.

hey this is a HUGE FUCKING SPOILER but like, at the end of super mario 64, mario finds the princess and it turns out the deeper meaning of running around and collecting stars and basically everything you did in the game was so mario could save the princess. pretty mindblowing if you ask me.

Let's get back to talking about the game. I think it took me two hours to beat the semi-final boss. A lot of fun, though, in the end. Once you get the hang of it, anyway.

I actually managed to gold the real final boss.

Hey guys, for the record I actually think BenoitRen has a point. I don't give a shit about Sonic but in this particular case that's actually a kind of awesome plot twist that's been spoiled. And I do believe that in general we should use spoiler tags. Let's be nice okay ^__^

man, he has a point but he went about it in a pretty abrasive way

to stay on topic the only sonic games i've really played a lot of have been 1 and 2; then i played 3 and knuckles, both of which i thought were pretty godawful.

is it worth checking out any of the later sonic games? i mean, sonic adventure 1 seems interesting, but are there any real redeeming qualities to all the stuff that followed it?

No Not really.

All the Sonic Advance games are really trite and to full of bottomless pits.

Sonic Adventure 2 is pretty damn terrible all around. Horrible camera. Go forward awkardly for the Sonic and Shadow stages that most people say are good.

Shadow the Hedgehog is really fucking funny in a terrible way.

Sonic Rush, Heroes, and NEXT never really showed me anything that would prove they learned from the mistakes the games I mentioned had.

Sonic Adventure is still worthwhile I think. I sometimes boot that game up just to run around in it.

Sonic 1 and 2 are worth playing. Sonic CD as well. Chaotix is sort-of the spirtual sequel to Sonic CD. I can actually appreciate Sonic 3 and Knuckles now, but recognise the flaws. Skip directly to Sonic Rush.

Sonic Adventure, despite its flaws, is worth playing. Sonic Adventure 2, MAYBE for the Sonic and Shadow stages.

Sonic Heroes, Shadow, and Sonic NEXT, all not worth even looking at. If you're curious about the story (ha ha), well, go to youtube.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is very worth it though.

Also, I hear Sonic Pocket Adventure for the NGPC is good. But then, it's almost an out-and-out remake of Sonic 2, correct?

Also, for hilarity, we have this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43Lr2jKe1Bg

I would say yes, up to Sonic Heroes.

Sonic 2 stages (the last zone is of the first Sonic, though) + Sonic 3 & Knuckles music.

I like the game. It has some glaring flaws, but when it works it's damn awesome. It's a much better game than the Adventure games were.
