I hear that Demon's Souls is closer to From's Shadow Tower series, but it might be only because of similar atmosphere and no music in levels.
I want to see how Echo Night compares to Fatal Frame 2's FPS mode. |

Was it the first one in America? Because that's King's Field 2 in Japan.
Also King's Field is awesome and frustrating. I've only gotten to the first save point (sorta spoiler, there are save points) but I'd recommend it to anyone who liked Demon's Souls. It's not exactly the same but many things about it are analogous. |

Replayed Portal on a whim yesterday, and ended up getting all the radios. When that patch came out, I thought it was purely an ARG gimmick for hyping Portal 2, but it turns out the radios are pretty fun to find. Some of them are in pretty inspired locations, like inside that timed-door receptacle in area 15 that some people were already going into just for fun, and in the motherfucking fire of all places. Transporting objects to a goal through portals is also a new kind of puzzle that the original game didn't really explore. It lends some new depth to the first half of the game, anyway.
I'm gonna guess that Portal 2 will ship with similar collectibles all over (though hopefully with a less obnoxious sound effect!). And I find myself wishing that something like collecting these radios was necessary to get a "good ending" in the first place; I've always felt Portal would be a more satisfying game if the player had to go to some effort to deserve it. |

Still playing that new Doom 2 eps. No Rest for the Living. So far Vivisection is probably my favorite level of the bunch, though the first two are really good as well. I especially loved the massive free for all that ensued from all the monsters that spawn once you finally grab the red key.
The third, Canyon of the Dead, has some neat ideas in that it tries to make use of large open spaces but it kind of falls flat compared to the more constricted, tightly-designed corridor levels. The level I'm currently on right now, Inferno of Blood, so far seems to be attempting to do a mix of both corridor bits and open space areas and is quite enjoyable so far for the effort. I'm no fan of the Archvile though, and this is the first level he's appeared in. :/ _________________

Wow Colosseum: Road to Freedom is pure and purely obtuse, like if some 15 year olds just watched Gladiator and wanted to make a game and then voice it but took Gladius as inspiration. Hilarious. Been meaning to play it for years, I like it for what it is but I've only spent like 3 hours before it froze on me.
I learned I could tolerate some pretty painful control schemes and cameras! Someday I will be ready for Cosmic Race. |

I installed the Invisible War demo in this pseudo-new system in order to record the amazing barrel+human body physics.
Unfortunately something about this system is causing Invisible War to absolutely shit itself.
I'm going to try to record it with FRAPS, but no promises. |

So far it's like Dragon Age but with better fighting, an interesting setting, and malformed tits. A+ would buy for $10 again. _________________

I played through Siren 2 after owning it for almost 4 years. well, maybe 4 years. It's better than Siren 1 in that it is playable. The story isn't nearly as bad shit insane as Siren one.
Siren one is about a starving village that eats an alien and that's why they is all crazy. That's still a lot to take in.
I was going to for all the archive items and therefore the bonus mission. But the remaining archive items would be hard and not fun to do. So I'm going to be an adult and just watch the bonus mission on youtube.
The game was kind of repetitive, and I don't know if I'd recommend seeking it out. If you want the Asian version for cheap (in Japanese but there are FAQs in english and it isn't THAT hard to figure out) let me know.
Next in my JPS2 backlog: Another Century Episode or I'll start my english 2.50 okami. I will play until I feel I've earned 2.50 of fun. _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

One of the more interesting things about Siren 2 I found was that apart from maybe three people the entire cast is or is becoming completely insane. The game's scenario makes it seem like the game is falling apart at the seams, as well!
It makes Siren 1's scenario look a bit tame and by-the-book. _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud

Well half of the cast is possessed by something. And well, a lot of the you're going crazy is in the cutscenes and not in the game play. Actually all of it is not in the game play. _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

Been playing a lot of Senko no Ronde DUO and ESPGaluda II. Enjoying every minute of it. Still haven't picked out a favorite DUO character yet, though I think I like Sakurako for her wave dash attacks (her sweeping spear attacks are also great at creating distance). DUO is interesting in that it seems like there are actually characters made with levels of play in mind, some seem intentionally more powerful than others due to other weaknesses in their design. I think they took a lot about dashing into account since it's maybe one of the most important pieces of fighting technique available to you. _________________

I'd really like to make video (seeing it in motion was amazing), but I need to figure out what to do with the videos. I recorded a video of me playing with the physics (no glitches) at 640x480 at 30 FPS with FRAPS and a 6 minute file turned out to be 1.40gb and in a format that crashes VLC (although Media Player Classic Home Cinema can handle it). That would take a while to upload to Youtube, but I also hate trying to figure out the best ways to convert videos to other formats.
(thumbnail)
Also I'm pretty sure it happened because of my video card dying. A bit of the same thing (progressively worse visual glitching and then total lock-up) happened when I tried to run Portal at the "recommended for your system settings", and as I leaned over to hit the reset button I noticed the video card was making hell of noise and was hot enough to fry an egg (or whatever else touched it). The case is pretty well ventilated, maybe a little dust but not much, and I think it's properly plugged into the power supply, so it's probably on it's way out.
I'd like to keep the visual glitching, but I don't want to risk killing my video card entirely/starting a fire/whatever....I mean, it'd be a good excuse to get a new one, but I'm not the kind of guy who easily thinks in those terms. |

I bought Layer Section II and the 4-in-1 in order to play it this weekend at a convention. $70 wasn't bad for all of it. Unfortunately, my Saturn's fuse blew out the minute I tried to play it and I'm left in a situation where I have to spend $40 to buy another Saturn. :/
But the copy of Sin and Punishment that I got works perfectly. Had to get a little medieval on my N64 to get it in there, 'specially since I can't find my security screwdriver. I'm a bit confused on what the A button does, maybe it changes the lock-on style? It seemed like it tracked the enemies a little bit when I pressed it, but I really don't know. Enjoying it despite the small confusion. |

| Virtualdub handles the FRAPS codec fine last time i tried. take that, convert it to Xivd, and you should get a pretty portable file suitiable for uploading in less than an hour. converting might take a while though, since it's all CPU dependent. |

I've been playing Strange Journey. Not really liking it as much as the previous three games. It "plays" fine, but I don't like the setting. I'm not too far in, though. I'm currently in Bootes, and I believe I'm close to fighting Mitra. Might put this game on hold and go back to playing Digital Devil Saga, but it's been about a year since I last played it, so I don't recall much about the game. I'm only in the Citadel area, which is fairly early on, but I spent a bit of time leveling up mantras, so I don't want to restart the game. _________________

I started playing "Kings Field: The Ancient City" last night!
I like how this game is as unappealing as it can be right from the start to try and maybe weed out the unworthy. I died within the first 45 seconds of gameplay because I stepped on some sort of trap 20 feet from the starting point. If you force yourself to accept the slowness of the controls and animations, and start to carefully poke around you really do get hooked. I only played for 1 hour last night, but I have been day dreaming about the game all morning. I have made the progress of initial leveling up and getting a sword etc., and suddenly it dawns on you how manageable the game could be. Just be calm and smart, like you would if you were actually on this adventure. See a well you can jump down? Well, don't jump down it because its a 20 foot fall and you'll break your legs and die - hope you saved, dummy.
The game is also bleak, bleak, bleak. Everyone you talk to is like, "This place is awful, and yer fucked if you hang around. Im dying." Grey skies, wet earth, slugs and plant creatures walking in circles. You must be a real saint to bother helping this hell hole. _________________

oh right virtualdub. Yeah I can....oh god why are there different flavors of virtualdub
why does virtualdub vanilla have so many options
....why don't I have xvid installed?
oh god why do I have so many choices when converting a video

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
When my brother first showed me the game years back, that's the first thing I did too. He knew it would happen. Right after like a 10 minute cinematic. It boots you to a reload/quit screen after that with reload grayed out to rub more salt...
Love it. I wish someone would do that on youtube. Just be like THIS IS KINGS FIELD show the boot up, make a new game, see the cutscene, then proceed to step forward 2 steps into hidden lava pit to that screen. Yes. |

A few nights ago I played the first two hours of Headhunter. It was nice going back to it. The gun play is alright, the stealth ain't bad, it's just their are better games in this day in age. I'm also fairly certain I remember the end of the game requiring you get top score on the required VR missions and that was going to piss me off.
Also I seem to remember something about PAL Headhunter + NTSC saves on VMU = corrupt NTSC saves on VMU.
It still looks pretty good and I don't think anyone has mentioned the similarities to it and No More Heroes when they seem numerous. Maybe when I actually play NMH I could actually confirm that it's the same game.
Europe loves doing America. It does really encapsulate a more realistic big brother/big corporation America. Then it didn't get released in America! hah!
That and Shenmue II and Evil Twin. :(
Well, from videos of Evil Twin, maybe America made it out okay. Were their any Dreamcast games that didn't get released in Europe? _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

First off I'm assuming you mean games that came out in the US because needless to say there were plenty of Japanese games that didn't come out here. But either way, I would assume there were a lot more games that came out in the US that didn't come out here than the other way around.
Also Headhunter is fucking awesome, bugginess and hilariously ugly cutscenes aside. The story was pretty cool (ending freaked me the fuck out) and it has a bitching Richard Jacques soundtrack to boot. I really wouldn't mind replaying it!
I'd like to try the sequel too, although I hear it's terrible. |

Tapping A switches the shot type between manual control/stronger shot (red reticle) and lock-on/weak shot (blue reticle). The lock-on variant snaps to enemies so you can focus on movement and dodging.

| This weekend, I plan on playing Eversion, more HL2 and Episodes (achieving), maybe Portal (in the mood), Pixeljunk Eden, a little TF2, and Infamous. Also, I bought a bunch of Playstation games that I should receive by the end of next week: Demon's Souls ($30 sale), Bad Company, God of War Collection, God of War 3, FF13, and the whole Ratchet & Clank series. I thought about just getting the Future trilogy but decided to start with the PS2 games. I got everything except Size Matters (probably will buy through PSP store) and Secret Agent Clank (probably will not get). |

Playing Pokémon Blue with a cheat that makes most sprites the rival. Should make replaying the game somewhat amusing. I'm not sure how I ever played these games without a speed-up option.

The TF2 training is well done, but I was hoping for a lot more detail... It only uses the soldier class to cover basics. It doesn't even go into intermediate aspects of the class, like rocket jumping. When I heard about a new training mode, I was really excited to properly find out just how the fuck to make things happen as, say, an engineer or a spy.
@Rud13 My PSN ID is internisus, naturally! And you may be right about burnout, but I can always take a break with something else.

Chains of Olympus took place before GoW1? I played through the entire game with sound off, so I had no idea what was going on.
Oh man, this should probably go in the QTE thread, but Chains of Olympus had one of the best QTEs in the series. Spoiler: Towards the end of the game, Kratos dies and is re-united with his daughter in the afterlife. Either Kratos was rewarded for all of his killing, or his daughter went to Hell. Anyway, Kratos lost all of his powers and could now afterlive with his daughter. Then he found out this was all the bad guy's plan, because now that Kratos lost his powers the bad guy could do whatever she wanted (the Gods seems pretty lazy). So then Kratos is like "oh no I must stop her" and his daughter says "No daddy don't go" and hugs onto him. You then have to mash circle really fast to push her away from you. She'll then cling to you again, and you have to do this 2 or 3 times. Afterwards, you have to kill all of the other dead people around you to get your powers back for some reason.
