Played some Contact, I certainly hope that the storyline becomes more epic than it is now.

It kinda does, but only at the end. There's a lot of stuff in that game that just goes nowhere. It's not a game I'd recommend most of the time, but it has a handful of moments.

King's Field is like a proto-Demon's Souls and also totally great. I've only ever played the first one.

Was it the first one in America? Because that's King's Field 2 in Japan.

Also King's Field is awesome and frustrating. I've only gotten to the first save point (sorta spoiler, there are save points) but I'd recommend it to anyone who liked Demon's Souls. It's not exactly the same but many things about it are analogous.

Pole weapons such as the halberd are actually pretty good when you two-hand them. Of course, for that to be viable you probably need to be able to roll, and the starting temple knight armor is too heavy for that. You could get some lighter clothes in 3-1, or the leather set by rescuing Blige in 4-1. If you're set on restarting though, you might consider either a royalty (which everyone seems to recommend) or a hunter (better at melee, plus a bow).

Also Broco, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter whether or not you finish 1-1 without dying, because you're in soul form anyway; you have to die in body form to have an effect on world tendency. If you're getting pure white after your first time beating 1-1, you can probably chalk it up to the weird way Demon's Souls handles WT when online (it supposedly gets set based on some kind of server tendency or something).

A Sharp Shotel +5 supposedly outdamages the Blind even through a shield, though if you just don't want to deal with trying to get a second Pure Bladestone that's understandable. But really, Blind is not a very good weapon.

There used to be a bug to get infinite souls. I don't remember if they fixed it before the US version came out.

There are a few exploits to get infinite souls. I'm pretty sure at least two of them work in the US version.

Late to the party, but I've been playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I killed a Giadrome with the great sword you get in the beginning of the game. It took fucking forever, but I killed the damn beast; I seriously must've had like a minute left in the quest when the thing finally collapsed. After dying twice to it, revenge was sweet.

If it took forever, you might be doing Gathering Hall quests solo. Many, many people have this problem when they start (including me). The quests inside the Gathering Hall are designed for multiple people, and going into the "Solo Gathering Hall" does not make them any easier.

Solo quests are from the old lady (and later, cat) outside in the open, by the road. These are the "Elder Quests" and are designed for single-player.

Ah, I'd noticed that her quests were a hell of a lot easier, almost disappointingly so. I guess they'll get more interesting as I go on. It's too bad I don't have anyone to play this game with though, and this just doesn't seem like the kind of game I could play with strangers over XLink Kai.

Been trying to play the Genesis Shadowrun game. Does it get any better than in the beginning? So far it's been kind of annoying.

I started out as a decker. I did some slightly randomized quests, mostly delivery and escort (didn't have good enough equipment to do the "kill some monsters" quests), paid for Michael's stuff, bought a better gun. I died a number of times to random thugs until I figured out how to kite enemies. I got sent to another area after dying once thanks to an item in Michael's stuff and now I can't go anywhere else without paying for a cab, which I don't have the money for. I can't find a place to get quests in this area (Seattle, I think) and so it kind of seems like I'm stuck barring one of the many random events you can get for just walking around.

Oh, and I also tried cyberspace a couple times but I basically couldn't hit anything, and things didn't seem to want to hit me, so I just jacked out.

Thanks for the tip about the guy you can pawn files to, I hadn't explored that corner yet.

I've got the hang of hacking, I think, but it still seems that my equipment may not be good enough for most systems. I did get a nice piece of data which earned me some cash that I used to buy a few things. However, on another cyberspace run I managed to fry my MPCP so I've got to do some shadowrunning to repair it.

This game is seeming more interesting, but I'm still not sure if I really like it.

I started playing Vindictus today. It's surprisingly not horrible, though I'm not ready to say it's good yet. It's definitely more of an action game than most MMOs. I've only done the first few missions and they've been exceedingly easy, but I expect things will toughen up. If anyone wants a key I've got one extra.

Edit: On the West server. Goons decided that. I dunno if I'm gonna stick around there, though, it looks like they're having problems...

Oh, well I'm on the East server unfortunately. Haven't tried West yet, but East seems to do well enough for me. If you decide to come over, my current character is Quintus.

So Vindictus does get reasonably tough. The Gnoll Chieftan takes about half my HP in one hit (on Normal difficulty). I've fought him a few times trying to complete the armor set. Another mission has you fight two bosses at the same time, which was pretty cool. Next mission is a giant fucking polar bear, which I am kind of dreading.

So yeah, this game actually fun. Sort of like Monster Hunter, just with a bunch of people running around town; not exactly an MMORPG, but it does have a focus on multiplayer. I would recommend trying this game.

More Vindictus. Found out something a little interesting, there's a sort of limitation on doing quests after a certain point; you begin with number of tokens, and later quests cost tokens to attempt. If you do a lot of quests in one day, the price per quest goes up. I suppose this is a way to discourage obsessive play; I think similar schemes have been showing up in various MMO games, and it's a noble idea at least. However, there are a few potential ways around it, and the earlier quests are still free, so it seems like sort of a half-assed deterrent.
