Ufouria was deliciously hard until I realized you could stomp on enemies.
I'm not sure how I feel about this revelation. |
I remember I thinking "WTF!?" when I first played Ufouria via emulation in the late 90's. Surely your standard Mario jump stomp should apply to all 8-bit games? I think you have to press down to stomp which also means that Sunsoft can trumpet the ability to independently control your feet in this game. |

| After i finished Chrono Trigger, I went back to my game of the original Breath of Fire. I have now come to realize it is a complete waste of my time. |
What bugged you about it? I had BOF3, which I certainly felt was a waste of my time, mostly because of the incessant random battles.
As for what to play next, I'd go for either Illusion of Gaia or Super Mario RPG. |

More Zelda 2:
I beat the swamp palace. I got a glove in there, but I have no idea what it would be for. My only guess is that it triggered the flag that allowed the girl at the beach town to let me see the old man who gives you the Fairy spell, though the dialouge didn't seem to match up. Regardless, that spell is the one I needed to get into the next palace, so I guess I'm right. Anyways...
I explored most of the third palace and obtained the raft, though I died during the Item-Get animation because I hopped over the sword throwing prick that was guarding the thing. Rather than make another run through the dungeon, I decided to explore the other continent, only to find that it was overrun with absolute terror (in the form of invulnerable hopping spiders).
Still, I continued on and found a town with nothing interesting that I could obtain. I then went through a cave to the north and was relieved that the enemies there were much more willing to die. I eventually came across a mountain village (nice palette) where I found the guy who teaches you the upthrust (very cleverly hidden, I might add) in addition to some news that a child had been kidnapped. After this I went to the maze-island-thing and, lo and behold, the first thing I found was the kid (which, again, I died while picking up). I was able to trade this kid for the spell Reflect, which unfortunately is not as good as it sounds.
(Also I finally found the sage in the river town. Apparently the mirror I needed to give his daughter/wife/concubine was just under a table.)
I gave the third palace another try, but was felled by a boss whose second form didn't really care for staying onscreen where the game's collision detection would allow my hits to register. |
I wish I could see the game with the fresh eyes that you have, although I still love Zelda 2. Hell - I love all three of those weird ass late 80's Nintendo game sequels (Super Mario Bros 2, Zelda 2 and Simon's Quest)
And the Reflect is to bounce back the Wizzrobe's spells with your shield. Pretty lame. |

| Playing Link to the Past for the first time. emulating the GBA version. First impression is that it's harder than the 3d games but mainly due to health refills not dropping. |
Why would you emulate the GBA version when you can emulate the quite lovely SNES original? |
