| Monk is the easiest to make viscerally satisfying (and not that much bad can be said about it), Demon Hunter is the ultimately-shallow-but-initially-complex-well-ironed-systematic-moveset, Witch Doctor is fun/messy but kind of blue-balling at low levels, I think Wizard and Barbarian are pretty ordinarily decent / well-balanced. But you should really play console co-op if at all. |

| I remember reading somewhere that someone, somehow, released a computer game on a vinyl record. wanna say it was part of the late 80s early 90s british computer gaming scene. but no amount of googling turns anything up. anyone remember hearing about this? did I just make it up? |

| is anyone aware of a resource listing all the different Youtube (or similar site) apps by platform and detailing which are specifically for that purpose and which are just slightly-modified browsers? I'd love to know when there's no real difference between using a system's Youtube app or just loading the site in Chrome/whatever. |

SR4, really. For the love of God. Having seen a bit of both and played even less of either and heard so much about these two games, please, please, don't fucking play AssCrud4 because it is really really garbage whereas SR4 seems to be, by all means, really quite excellent. _________________

| Is there a way to mute the sound on Visual Boy Advance for Macs without having the video speed up to be 99 times faster? |

what is the exact process you are taking to mute the sound?
I suppose you could check if the emulator is set to sync with the sound and disable that (there should be an alternate sync setting), but that's only in case of the program getting really confused or something... |

| I'm opening the program, going to the only area which will let me fuss with the sound (Preferences (very limited in options) -> Sound), and unchecking the box next to Enable Sound. I tried the Limit Speed option in the Emulator portion of Preferences but it made the game too slow. This was a problem on my two other Macs, so I assume it is inherent to the program. |

dang. Have you tried checking out the unofficial builds of VBA-M for OS X?
http://vba-m.com/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=111
http://vba-m.com/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=82
I have no access to/familiarity with OS X, so while I think the first is compiled and the second isn't, I honestly have no idea. Someone else might be able to compile them for you. I'm assuming the system isn't powerful enough (and isn't 64-bit) to run Higan, but if it is...
(there's also Mednafen, but even with a GUI, it can be a real pain to use)

VBA-M has the same problem. Thanks for trying, though. The Internet's otherwise silent on the matter.
Another thing I miss about the regular VBA is the ability to isolate sound channels. |

Sort of? It's easy and the writing is gamer-y but it'll scratch that Link To The Past itch if you have such an itch. (I did not have such an itch.) |

| Can't give you advice on lag, but the--probably MayFlash--adaptor I bought on Amazon works well with my 3D pad and twin sticks. I think there are ones for one controller, multiple controllers, and Saturn+PlayStation+maybe N64 combined. I have the single controller one. |

Should I play or skip etrian odyssey 1? I am playing it now, I have to beat fenrir, I'm not to far to beat it without a dead party member, but the scrolling ticks me off, you move a bit slow and it take more time than the necesary to reach fenrir, without counting the time I use in fighting random encounters in the way for getting boost. but it doesn't look like a long game. What should I do? _________________

Many moons ago Chazumaru made a contribution to FKW using the Death Note manga (I think?) as a basis to describe some woefully ignored Konami game similar to Castlevania.
What was that game? I couldn't find that thread in the archives. Maybe it isn't there. Nor could I find that Snake Eater write up.
Edit: It was Getsufumaden. I even found someone else remembering that very same comic. _________________

I have that comic backed up somewhere, but on a drive I don't have hooked up at the moment. When I do, I'll post it.
Someone (presumably Igarashi) dumped Getsu stuff into Harmony of Despair and Otomedius Excellent. I wonder if he had further plans before shuffled into the doghouse of Kinect development. |

I mean I think the flagship series would be Mechwarrior obviously. You'll need a joystick to enjoy them. 2, 3 and 4 are the big ones. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Counterpoint: I've long enjoyed Mechwarrior games with keyboard and mouse.
Beyond Mechwarrior, there's also the Earthsiege/Starsiege series. Yes, it consists of things other than Tribes.
EDIT: Also, Heavy Gear 1 and 2. A bit of a different beast from the above, as HG is basically Canadian VOTOMS, so you're more like a great big infantryman with wheels on your feet and rockets sticking off your back. |

What was the game trailer where one dude climbs up sotc-style on a bigger dude, and then an even bigger dude shows up? Art style was kind of Skyrim-ish. I think it was going to be a 360 game. _________________

You guys are forgetting the mother of all sim mech games, Steel Batallion.

| The rumors that have come from game conventions like PAX last year is: no. The rumor goes that the game is completely translated into English but that Sega isn't confident the monetization model will work in the US and have scrapped plans for a Western release. Instead they are going to use that English translation for an Asia/South-East Asia release. This would fit with Sega's recent business in that area where they have been releasing an English version of their F2P Vita game Samurai & Dragons but there has not been a peep of it ever coming West. |

Can anyone here tell me if there are PS1 emulators that allow you to upscale the game's resolution?
I'm glad I played PSO2 when I did (on release). Didn't come close to beating it, but got my fill. _________________

There's a couple options for this, both video plugins in epsxe or pcsx or whatever emulator you use. the standard option (whatever the normal dx9 driver is called) lets you upscale the external resolution, so you still get texture warp and weird vertex placement issues but at least it's not so blurry and jaggy.
Alternately, you can get gpubladesoft plugin from emu-russia, which allows you to up the internal resolution and thus reduce the instances of vertex displacement and other psx specific issues. _________________

are the multiplayer-only Nintendoland games any good?
I got it free with my craigslist WiiU and I have to say, of all the titles that aren't multiplayer only (9/12?), there are only about two that I felt like playing the past the tutorial. I think I'm gonna get rid of it for scratch unless the multiplayer-only games are way better than anticipated (and I'd like to have some testimony before I even bother trialing them on people, since those conditions obtained rarely enough that I'd rather play Mario 3D World or a tabletop game rather than have a 75% chance of wasting everyone's time on a new toy).
on the plus side if I subtract the cost of all the free and easily resaleable (or desirable to keep) stuff that came with this WiiU, I got it for about $100. so I'm okay with that. I guess that's what it took for me to spend $67.19 on Mario. |
