I can't answer your main question, but this isn't true. This is indeed very far from true, and we're getting some fascinating new flashcarts now (one of which is capable of slot 1 gba emulation!)

Uh, the NES only has five channels so at any given moment you can only hear five sounds at the same time. I suppose sound effects take precedence over music?

The DS version is an improvement on the PS2 version

It's a toss up between the SNES and DS though: Do you like the graphics in the DS version, do you like less grinding? Go with DS. Do you like not having every character speak in a horrible barely readable accent? SNES.

Terra Nova and tell me if it is as good as my nostalgia remembers it.

Cuba, Terra Nova was an old Looking Glass tactical first person shooter

so long as you tag a weapon type and put a point or two in agility, you're good. For Energy Weapons or Big Guns to be viable, you need to sequence break early or just tag speech and stealth as well to get through the early-mid game.

I believe that you only need 160% in small guns to have perfect accuracy in all situations, any points above that would be wasted.

Some slowdown some times, especially underwater. Redundant if you have a flashcart since the game uses the jenesisds emulator internally(legally! the programmer was hired for the port) so you'd be paying for an emulator that can only play 3 games.

On that note, check out the wonderful favorite games thread which I don't believe has been fully integrated into the sb recommends wiki. (Probably because they often lack descriptions.)

There is no reliable method of getting thief gold running. You should play the first two, and the Dark Mod for Doom 3.

If you get stuck getting the game working ask here or pm me, I've been meaning to write it up for a while.

keep in mind TTLG as a resource.

Ah I'll just put some notes here:

Install and use Darkloader, this fixes some things and will later let you play fan missions easily.

Use this to fix almost all the major problems thief has on modern systems.

hey guys, which is better for playing emulated snes/md/neogeo/cps2/nes/etc. games on a crt tv (as in, which has the better emulators, support, available controllers, etc): a modded xbox or a modded wii?

I used to have a modded xbox so unless the wii has some crippling problems for emulation go with that. (If price is not a question of course)

Modded XBox would be a better all around cheapo media center plus you can play all three good original xbox exclusives off the hard drive. But even Wii's classic controller is better suited to emulating 8/16-bit consoles and the gamecube controller is pretty great.

n64 emulation sucks and you're pretty much stuck with project64 1.6 until mupen64plus gets a good UI or pj64 1.7 is released to everyone. As far as I know there isn't a real LLE emulator for n64 so compatibility hasn't improved in years.

Do you remember the names of any saturn quake maps? I'm gonna look up if any got converted.

Oh wow looking on youtube I didn't realize that the saturn and n64 ports both had colored lighting.

yes definitely stick with actual oblivion; morroblivion is more a proof of concept than a good game.

I feel that Oblivion actually needs more modding to be playable than Morrowind but that's just cause there's a lot of good things going on in the latter absent from the former.

Civ Rev is also total trash :(.

There are a lot of good historic strategy games, I'm sure T. could talk about them if he felt inclined.

yeah Remote you actually do want Guild Wars after you elaborated on what you want.

I mean it is all Arena based but the game is built around PVP (It doesn't even require any grinding) and its class and skill system is at least twice as enjoyable as the best of world of warcraft.

the thing is it actually does matter what weapon you use in Doom. There's a tangible difference between all the weapons and most of them are situationally useful (the pistol is garbage but whatever it lasts like half a level)

Bioshock does not have this distinction.

Huh, even a console version I find that difficult to believe. Short of robbing a bunch of native american ships I doubt you'll have much of a fleet after only an hour and the fencing doesn't even get interesting until you've upped the difficulty a few notches.

Hideous dynamic shadows, texture pop-in and a kind of plasticky-look to most textures
