Not a video game question but anyway,
I have a folder containing thousands of zips (they're roms) and now I really only want to keep like a hundred of them. I have a list of the file names of all the files I want to keep and I was wondering if I can somehow automate the process of deleting all the files I don't want. Some sort of program (or several) that would somehow check each file's name and see if it matches with any of the names in my list and delete it if it doesn't find it. Anyone know a method or any tips on finding one? _________________

Oh, that makes a lot of sense, then. It's a visual novel, Sharin no Kuni in particular, so it's certainly possible that it doesn't use DirectX or OpenGL. I was just puzzled that FRAPS didn't work because it worked in other VNs I tried, like Cross Channel. Another program that can take screenshots of a window should work fine. I'll try a few of those, thanks! |
It's been a while of course but if you're still looking then I really recommend Grabby. It's a tiny program that runs in the background and really only saves any screenshots you take with the PrtSc key immediatley in a designated folder. It's got a timer that let's you capture screens at set intervals but that's about it. If you want to only capture your active window then all you need to do is hold down the Alt when capturing. I always found it very useful. The website I got it from seems dead now but I uploaded the program here in case you want it:

| Now that my hopes of Gamecube-BC new console has been smashed I might as well ask, is there any way to get my PAL GC console to output over anything of higher quality then composite cables without finding and buying one of the incredibly elusive (not to mention rather expensive) Scart or Component cables that apparently need to be first-party manufactured from Nintendo to work properly. Mods, soldering, discounted and trusted retailers, any info at all really. |

| I'm not entirely sure myself to be honest! What I'm imagining though is a scenario though where the player character is offered a cigarette or the like and the player can choose whether to accept it or not which doesn't necessarily have to carry any direct consequences. I'm not interested in cases where cigarettes are simply incidental items like in Metal Gear or Bioshock (but I'd still like to see a Galaxy Oddity thread on this if it exists) but if any game let's you personify yourself as a smoker (which again, doesn't necessarily have to carry any in-game consequences). I suppose what remote's saying is kind of what I'm looking for. Is that a real Fallout perk? |

Another quick one, I wish to play DQ 1, 2 and 3 on my Android phone but am wondering which version would be best suited, the GBC port or the fan-translated SNES ones. The SNES ports do look very pretty but I have found that SNES sound emulation on this thing isn't quite perfect yet so maybe the GBC versions with their extras would be preferable? Or are those only very minor new features?
Speaking of which, any other NES/GB/PCE games that are worth playing with virtual buttons? My experience with RPGs and the like are very limited on those systems. Particularly interested in trying one of those older CRPGs if their console ports are an acceptable way of experiencing them. |

| Would it be possible to set up a mpdded Wii so that downloaded ROMS could be launched as easily and cleanly as the ones bought from the Nintendo shop? This sort of relates to Gorblax's question actually. |

Wait, do you mean each seperate ROM is a seperate channel or that you have to launch the ROMs from a single seperete channel? Because I'm sort of looking for the former (don't have a Wii myself)
Also, thank you Iammadmak! Still looking for that updated launcher .exe though. I actually have it on a computer but I have no idea what other files came with it and are required.
EDIT: Ok, I think this might be the needed files. There might be something still missing though. If someone would happen to have Deus Ex installed without it could you just try pasting this in the "System" folder and see if it works? I'll be trying it out myself later:

Yes. I don't think there was really anything like its co-op for the 360 at least when it came out. It is some damn fun coop too (but the ways saves, characters and levels are stored between profiles and characters is a complete mess when you're just playing the game together locally at a friend's place) |

| Is Lufia: The Legend Returns for the GBC "worthi it"? Because I'm looking for RPGs to emulate on my phone and while the game seems to have a lot of interesting ideas I'm not sure it feels worth sticking to since I get the feeling it can end up incredibly tedious. Anyone played it and seen how it develops? I only played like 30 minute of it so far. |

That was a good post DAIS. Thank you. Yes, it can do NES as well as some very good SNES. If market pages are to believe then it is also capable of PCE, Neo-Geo Pocket, Genesis and even MSX. The biggest hurdle to tackle is the lack of any physical buttons though which is why I'm sort of sticking to turn based games mostly. It can even be a a struggle to navigate in overworld at times with these controls! (which is why SD was forced into the "rejected" pile sadly, sorry Arisu. even what little I did struggle through though I found a lot more enjoyable then my previous dealings with the series so I hope to revisit it under more favourable conditions).
I've actually already played through the first DQ for the GBC. It was a nice little game! Don't think the same will happen for 2 though so maybe I should just jump straight to 3. Hopefully that awfully pretty, fan-translated SNES remake will work well. I will be having a look at these other games as well. You would't happen to know if any CRPGs of some kind got any good ports to these systems? I feel woefully untaught when it comes to those. It should also be noted that I play all these games with both frameskip and "Turbo-A" close at hand which seems capable of taking the worst wear and year out of any RPG. |

I will load these games in and play them all for at least one of those bus trips that I have to take far often. Hopefully more since you are all great people with great tastes.
I have also found that most posts I make from this phone tend to not end up of exactly utmost quality. I would like to make some apologies for that. |

So Myst guys. More specifically realMyst. Like any of these games it's real fun and exciting until you just come to a complete stop. Before I swallow my pride and take a peek in a FAQ that might potentially spoil more then I want I was wondering if anyone here could offer me just a small hint?
I have just entered what I believe to be the Mechanical Age, the one with the fort in the middle and 3 surrounding islands and I really have no idea what to do now. This is the second world I have arrived in. The journals mentioned something about him building holograms here to teach the people how to work the fort? There sure was a "tower rotation simulator" there but I've yet to find it without the "simulation" part. I also found the creepy hidden room with another blue page in it and have managed to work the elevator leading me into that empty upper floor. There are chairs that I can sit in for some reason, a wind-up mechanical parrot with drawings on it's wings (first thought these somehow corresponded to the symbols one can enter into the machine at the place of arrival) and a snake-in-a-box. It all mystifies me. The skies are blue though so at least I shouldn't have to scan the horizon for black sails I hope.
just a small hint so I can finish the game and still feel good about myself... |

Bought it once in a similar sale after having played 3000 many years ago. Was so disgusted by how it used a pretty much copy-pasted interface from the first The Sims game (complete with low-poly Sims portraits for the advisors) that I just couldn't take it seriously. YMMV of course but I've never really felt any strong desire to go back to it and give it an honest try since then. |

Just "save link as" on that link and then run the swf either with your web browser or through adobe's stand-alone player.
If you want to save more games then all you really need is to find a direct link to the swf file on the page it's on. If you have Mozilla you can do this by right-clicking, choose "View page info" and go to the "Media" tab. It should be there, somewhere. |

| So I'm spying out this Vita thing and was just wondering if there was some way I could browse the PSN store without actually owning a Sony console of any kind? Mainly interested in the selection of PSP games available here but also to get an idea of the price of everything. I guess a s simple list of sold games would be the next-best thing. Speaking of which, can I do something similar with the 3ds store? |

Rudie questions: What is the arcade emulator of choice for the Xbox these days? Is xbins dead and if so, where's the best d/l resource now? What dashboard do you use?
EDIT: thesycophant, not sure specifically what you're talking about but underground-gamer.com has a lot of scans of old pc mags and stuff. PM me your e-mail and I can send you an invite |

In the translated manual txt file that came with the Aeon Genesis translation patch of the original Shin Megami Tensei for the SFC this is written in the "Demon Fusion" section:
| Code: |
SHORTCUTS:
If you hold down the L button when picking the first demon you want to use in
your fusion (second demon if you are doing a triple fusion) you can the Race of
the demon you fuse in the "Result" column of the Fusion screen. If you hold down
the R button when picking your demons, you can see the Name of the resulting
demon next to the Result Column: |
That's something that sounds really useful and would greatly reduce how tedious trying out demon fusions are in this game. Problem is, I can't seem to get it to work at all! So I'm wondering if this is something that the translation patch broke, if it was never in the final game to begin with or if I'm just missing some important step of the process here. Anyone who's played the game know if it's supposed to work? |
