When Game Grumps played the Nintendoland stuff it all seemed like you had to buy in to it being fun. Like convince yourself that you were having a good time not that the good time was really there all the way. _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

Most stuff is on Youtube these days. Sometimes there's too much of it on Youtube.
If you're using Chrome (regular, not some mobile adaptation), this site is pretty cool, either for specific games or to find something random.
I really wish there was some universal browser player for ValleyBell's modern VGM/VGZ standard. It supports a whole bunch of arcade games and stuff. |

Name that game: A freeware, 2D PC strategy game with hex tiles, and a main character who looked a lot like Shiren the Wanderer. I thought I had it installed on this computer, but I can't find it. I think it's Japanese.
EDIT: Found it. Vantage Master. _________________

I was! I knew DAIS would have the answer, and from the timestamps it looks like I found it on my own right as you replied. :) _________________

I'd like to get into MAME. Been away from the scene for near 10 years, and now I'm running into ROMs that for whatever reason will not work with any version of MAME I can dig up. Have tried the latest, the oldest, and a few in between. Anyone point me in the right direction? Is there one MAME version that just works with everything? _________________ Steam/PSN/Xbawks: GcDiaz

this might be a dumb answer, but are you making sure you're grabbing the parent ROMs and not just the regional versions? most of the time when you deal with a game put out all over the world, you need the World revision before the Japanese or American revisions work (or, with games with 2- and 4-player variants, the 2-player version).
as for one MAME to rule them all, I don't think so, since they changed how the ROMs themselves get handled a while back, so some games that ran with a set of files or name in an older version won't work on current MAME releases. _________________

I am! unfortunately I'm not much of a regular poster on here but I've lurked for years >_>
of interest to you may or may not be this show that I am a part of on Tuesday of GDC:
it was cool last year and I hope it'll be cool this year and yeah! buncha chiptunes-ish music and hey doseone! so I'm excited about it (i'm space town savior)
apologies for the hugely self-indulgent post :/ |

whatever version of mame you have will have it's own romsets, most rom sites will only have roms for the newest version of mame.
also, some games have more than one rom, with one being the parent, that's needed to play the game (if the different versions are regional variants, this will usually be the "world" version, but generally, go for the one with the biggest filesize) and the others being more like patches, turning the game into the other versions _________________

you'll need tickets, yeah! you can get them here: http://www.dnalounge.com/calendar/2014/03-18.html
i'd like to network too but I always manage to screw it up somehow so whoops
lost levels is like a freeform anti-GDC (though I'm not sure they'd call it that) with a bunch of microtalks on pretty much whatever the speakers feel like! it'll be my first time going to that too -- it's Thursday 1-5pm: lostlevels.net
unfortunately I'm based in San Diego so I have no idea where one would stay either :( |

| There are some hostels near the convention center, otherwise try AirBnB. Hotels are going to be either grody or expensive. |

I just stayed at this place for a work trip to SF, it's right nearby and it was pretty reasonable considering: http://hotelbijou.com
definitely wouldn't feel worth it had I been paying out of pocket though |

Is there some online place you can buy korean displays. I know some people are into those cheap korean monitors for super widescreen resolutions and whathaveyou but a friend of mine just wants a white tv that's at least 32 inches. Americans don't seem to like white tvs they want everything in tactical black carbon fiber or whatnot. _________________

You can also just fake your IP once the PC version comes out and get it that way. _________________

Ah, that's not a bad idea. The price is pretty reasonable, too. I thought they usually added £10 to the RRP for new games on PSN.
I doubt my 5 year old MacBook could run this |

That game store in Akiba behind club Sega is still there right?
There was an English games store I spotted in the backstreets.
Meet a random GI and ask them to buy at the BX.

No guarantees, but Newegg's First From Asia section might be worth a look. |

Or just use playasia. |

| does anyone have any insight into how Idea Factory managed to turn their Never Land universe into such a stupidly large franchise, given the series started with a really ugly and generally unremarkable dungeon crawler? Did Spectral Force (a year later) really take off for some reason? Did they just pump a bunch of ideas through down-on-their-luck developers? Three Spectral games came out for the PSX during the second half of 1999... |
