We need some unfounded and random speculations!!

Superman cameo!!
Batmobile will transform into giant robot!!
Batman will have his hand cut off at the end and replaced with bionic one!!
Joker will barely be in the movie at all!!
No one dies again!!

Also, if Kevin Smith named his daughter after her, it must mean something right?

Arkham Asylum would make a more interesting movie, but it will never happen.

Arkham Asylum would only work if directed by Dave McKean, since his art was the only interesting part about it.

I'm having trouble getting excited about this movie. Batman Begins was unique in that it WASN'T a superhero movie, just a vigilante movie with a funky costume. I don't see how to make Joker anything but a supervillain though.

It'd be cool if the movie leads into a Dark Knight Returns movie though.

Oh, my mistake. That's what I thought this was about. :(

I'm quite sweet on Harley throughout TAS.

Anyway, I've gone off on this before, but I fucking love Batman Begins. The prominence and depth of the film's themes separated it immediately from any other superhero movie, and the ideas of Bruce's fear and guilt tangibly wrapped around each other to produce a believable and compelling origin story that stayed true to the psychology and despair of Batman in TAS (See "I Am the Night" for a good example). Furthermore, the distinctive style of the score paints all of this in such an intense mood. It all came together in one of the most cohesive and powerful movies I've seen in some time.

I don't know much of anything about the next one. However, it's my understanding that the same writer and director are behind it, so suffice it to say that I have high expectations after Begins.

I do wish they'd drop "Batman" from the title and let it stand as The Dark Knight. That'd be sweet.

I read somewhere that they were originally planning on going with that only the studio thought people wouldn't "get" it. I think Goyer/Nolan can write a good Joker, and with Heath Ledger in the role I think they'll be going somewhere far beyond the Jack-Nicholson-as-Jack-Nicholson Joker from the original Batman.

I was reading the wikipedia article on the film and I have two notes: According to Nolan back in '06, the title actually will be The Dark Knight. He explains why he thinks it works since this is his reenvisioning of the film franchise, and the article author mentions that this will be the first live-action Batman film without the Batman name in the title.

Secondly, there is much preliminary emphasis on the Joker's eyes, downplaying his mouth. It's all about his burning, hateful eyes. Just judging from the spirit of Begins, I am sure that they will take the Joker in a very new direction.

I'm a little unnerved by the fact that they will be replacing Katie Holmes for the Rachel Dawes character. Isn't that going to feel odd for someone in the future (me) watching the whole trilogy? And I like Maggie Gyllenhal a lot, don't get me wrong, and I understand that Holmes left them no choice. I'm just worried about consistency.

I wonder about the thematic quality for this upcoming movie. It's supposedly about "escalation", things getting worse before they get better, and that doesn't sound as... definite as the first movie's themes.

No mention of Harley that I saw. =(

Why isn't holmes going to be in the new movie?

Also, Maggie Gyllenhal is a better actress.

Bale is the fourth Bruce Wayne in five movies. Fifth, if you count Mask of the Phantasm. Which you should!!

Meh, Katie. Kate. Whatever.

I thought that Holmes really brought down the first movie, so I'm not sad to see her go, even for consistency's sake.

However, I'm really not looking forward to Heath Ledger as the Joker. That just screams all kinds of bad to me. I was definitely a fan of Nicholson's Joker.

Nicholson's Joker certainly suited Burton's film, but I think Ledger as the Joker is a good sign of how they're going for character rather than caricature.

Batman Begins is my favourite superhero film guys.

Yeah, when I think Ledger I think Brokeback, and when I think Brokeback I think "Joker who doesn't want to be smiling".

Could be something!

It could be something pretty deep. Anyone who says they can't imagine the Joker as anything other than a "supervillain" -- well, you're clearly not the ones writing the screenplay.

lol

I other words I have faith that this movie will be pretty good.

I wish Batman Begins was out in Blu-ray though I think it's just HD-DVD.

I really want . . . something to watch in 1080p with my godly setup. I have absolutely no HD movies yet. Batman Begins is one of the few I guess I would consider worthy.

The thing is about the Joker, one of the best things, actually, is that he's a versatile character: You can write him in so many different ways, because he's a character in constant flux and utterly insane. He can be a completely hyperactive jester, of almost relative harmlessness, a deadly, demented clown, like in the first Batman movie and the animated series, or the most sadistic and twisted slaughterer ever.

When I think of the Joker, I think of the caricature. He's balls to the wall insane, not a supervillain. That's the kind of character I think of when I think the Joker, and I think that Nicholson really pulled it off well. I doubt Ledger could pull such an act off, though it's possible that they're not going that direction with the Joker - which I would be equally unhappy about.

Heath Ledger? Seriously?

I thought they were going with that other guy from A Knight's Tale.

What was his name... Paul Bettany, that was it. He would've made a teriffic Joker.

Heath is a fine actor, though. I'm sure he can pull it off.

Dude. That's completely different. You have to look at Batman Begins onward as it's own thing. I mean consistency within this new young series.

And I certainly fucking do count Mask of the Phantasm! Best Batman film before Begins!

I think Nicholson was an awful Joker -- and I'm a huge fan of him in general. Mark Hamil is the best, but I can see Ledger working out in an interesting new way.

Oh man, Hamil would have that down! I mean, his animated Joker is definitive for me.

Mask of the Phantasm was such a strange movie that I didn't even get it until a few years ago, when I found it sitting in a condo we'd rented at the beach.

I mean, does the Joker die at the end of it? I never understood that. Perhaps that's the point.

Seconding the whole liking Nicholson but hating his Joker. Seriously they had him in flesh toned paint for half the movie anyways.

I like Batman Begins because it loses the whole campy aspect of the other live action movies.

The 1960s Batman movie is all the camp the series will ever need. By the way, that movie counts.

Edit lol: I am picturing Heath Ledger in Joker makeup. He seems quite damn capable. He's even got the right narrow head shape. Nicholson did not.
