| What pisses me off is the massive, *massive* framerate drop when you have a complete party. The game is smooth as butter with just the main character running around, and there's no option to disable the cronies. :( |

Thing is, I read something to that extent in an official review as well.
Very noticable in places with lots of 3D models (some towns, overworld with lots of spawned monsters). Game gets jerky there. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth considering just how smooth the battles or a single run are. |

| I'm kind of wondering if there's any real reason for me to get this. I live in a shitty minor city, and there are lots of college students, but I seriously doubt my DS would ever pick up someone else's with a copy of this game. The sense that I should play while it's current was the motivation that came closest to defeating my stinginess, but I don't think it's realistic. |
You don't need the Tag mode to get anything in the game, it just speeds up some things. Well, maybe the inn stuff would require it, but that's really something minor. And you should get this because it's a mainline Dragon Quest game, meaning it's awesome. |

If you're using a flashcard, there's a cheat for increasing text speed. Not that I think it's needed in this case... |

| Should I be pissed at Nintendo or Square Enix? They could have used the people that did Paper Mario 2 or DQ8 and things would have been peachy. |
Translating Dragon Quest games is outsourced to Plus Alpha ever since DQ4 PSX Remake fiasco. |

The game was fully translated, but just as Enix USA was to send the translation the game's developer, Heartbeat, went under. And since their codebase was a proper nightmare, Enix had to leave the game to rot.
(More info here: http://www.rpgfan.com/features/e32k2-enix/index2.html)
Of course, DQ4 DS translation had it's share of controversy as well. And I'm not talking about the accents, but the fact that the Japanese ROM had a pretty much complete translation in place, the US version was released a year later with the Party Talk dummied out (roughly 60% of game's text).
It's like there's some sort of curse placed on the game. :) |

Things that don't click with me:
1. Treasures in barrels/closets/pots respawn (and are generally not worth shit). Hated this in FFXII, I hate this even more here, since that's pretty much the spirit of Dragon Quest (all of you should remember that cave in DQ8 that had shitload of barrels to smash and how amazing it was).
2. No random fights is a great thing, but I'd much prefer having a system like the one in Lufia 2 - enemies spawning constantly just looks... weird.
3. Game doesn't remember your maps in the treasure maps dungeons - every time you enter one you've finished earlier you need to chart the map from the beginning. Also, treasure maps suck ass - no loot to speak of, so the motivation to clear them is very low.
4. Speaking of no loot - that they removed treasures/special enemies from the world map is a travesty. Hunting for both was a high point of DQ8. |

Have you not noticed the sparklies on the field map? |
Those are just alchemy components, not proper loot (mini medals, gold, weapons, etc). |
