I am fucking TERRIBLE at this game and I challenge any of you to play in any bizarre mods we find together. I really don't want to play the vanilla multiplayer, after losing enough for a lifetime in the beta.

Did the same thing here, and I have the CE already up on ebay.

Really hate this game so far! Mostly because all I can do with it while battle net is down is watch the opening cinematic and change the options. Can't even play as a guest! "To enable offline play, connect to Battle.net to authorize your game client blah blah blah" it says. So the 1 hour I'm able to play today is lost thanks to their dumb ass system. I'll go see if somebody has cracked this now.

companies are still doing this, and people are still buying their games? amazing.

Yeah, this is the first time I've bought a game that pulled this. Didn't expect it! FORTUNATELY you can still play single-player once you have logged in once, it just happened that battlenet was down for 2 hours while I was trying to log in for the first time. Cracked it and got to play, not sure if I can keep my save.

geinou I'd suggest you also play the challenge maps once you finish / get bored with the campaign! They are probably my single favorite thing in here, and they can actually help a little as training for the admittedly difficult to enter multiplayer.

I was experiencing the overheating! If you set those framerate limiters your system will run fine without overheating. This also could have been fixed (well, worked around without modifying some obscure txt file) if the vsync option actually enabled vsync for the front end and cutscenes. So for me I would overheat if I sat in the menus for like 15 minutes or hung out on the bridge for a while.

Seems to me like your system would run this game at High or just under High settings (mostly depending on whether you have 512MB or more on that graphics card).

Shit guys. In the campaign you reach a point where you have to choose to either help the fucking protoss or not kill innocent humans. Bravo to the designers, they have created a serious lose / lose scenario.

Nope! The writers didn't find that in the Warhammer 40K manual, and thus, did not ever write it.

Which did you choose? I burned the innocent humans and felt like kind of a cockblock. Then I saw the cutscene afterwards and, uh, felt less bad.

I killed the hu-mans and was happy to note that the dumb protoss didn't show up at all. I have a feeling the opposite choice also has a similar cutscene designed to make you feel good. I'll find out eventually, when I go through the other choices to play all the missions.

still excited about the upcoming modslaught

I mean sure we're going to end up with shitty versions of games we already have (I mean have you see the Metal Slug 2 remake? bleh). But eventually we're going to have some genuinely good experiences here and it's going to be of a creative risk-level that Blizzard isn't willing to take. Sure, we'll have 30 ghost mods, and 1 of them will be amazing. But I want a spy thriller. A transformable robot love story. A trip to cowboy heaven, where men become pure mustache.

Those are very good videos!

I'm actually about to start hopping in to multi, and while I'm hoping to land somewhere in the middle of a bronze league, it's fun to stare at replays and tutorials while I'm at work.

Played a full 4v4 Nexus Wars match at lunch. Going to see some neat DOTA-m-ups with these units for sure.

Yeah that is a pretty awesome video. And also points out that Protoss are The Enemy and Have To Be Stopped.

Man I'm really curious how the next expansion will play out.

SPOILOOOOOOOO I mean, the Zerg seem to be the only race that's at least not completely evil at this point; they aren't going to planets and blowing them up or wiping out their whole populations for no reason. Fish gotta' swim, Zerg gotta' eat. To use the hunter analogy at least the Zerga aren't performing genocide for sport. Also, the ending of chapter one is kind of WHAT about Kerrigan. And also makes Arcterus seem like a fucking straight up lunatic (willing to sabotage his own political stability / media control JUST to get Tychus close enough to Main Character Whose Name I Can't Remember so he could... shoot Kerrigan once she was human again?). I guess the next one will be working to stop the Xel'Naga or whatever. I just hope the missions stay of decent quality because I can't stand this fucking story.

Yeah I have a 30 minutes or less policy. At 30 minutes I just all-in and gg if it doesn't work.

It's more that after 30 minutes I have to stop playing or my wife will stop playing at our marriage.

I'm considering adopting a different policy, one that was similar to my Sim City 2000 strat: consume all resources on the map and just put all units to patrol between bases. Check in every 10 minutes to replenish units. End goal being to break them of they awful turtle lust.

I've joined up with a friend for 2v2s. We're both going Zerg and focusing on maximum harass. One of us 6-pools while the other gasses up into mutas. End game usually just goes for faster expansion and ultras. I think we'll make it out there.

Played a few with a friend running humans. marine-marauder-medivac balls with zerglings (getting healed by the medivacs) are tough to deal with. People seem to be much worse at defense in 2v2s.

Interestingly this has about the same effect on me as saying you are better at Dragon Quest.

Also does anyone have a clue how placement matches work?

The purpose of the placement matches is to determine your initial ELO rating, and to try and get you up against similar skill-level players as quickly as possible. You will play an easy guy, and then a harder guy, and then a harder guy, until you lose one, and then it will try and give you easier guys (5 matches total). You will probably not be playing against other people who are in their placement phase, as unplaced players have low priority in matchmaking.

Once you're done, you'll be placed into a tier (gold, silver, etc). After your placement matches, your tier ranking continues to be evaluated every 5 matches (so if you somehow start out in diamond, but only got lucky to get there (extremely unlikely), and then get steam-rolled for a while, you won't get dropped back down until you finish 5 matches). This means that if you have a goal to hit Diamond, and then achieve it someday, you can stop playing once you do and never leave diamond (unless they wipe all the leaderboards as part of a season shift or something). The tiers are based on percentages of the overall userbase.
