I'm not saying it's bad, I mean, everything I've heard of it sounds better than the first episode, I even hope it's good, I just don't have the will and strength to go near it again.

No beach, lazy recap, music video, zombie, Garterbelt's origin, or Transformers episode?

Must be nice to not like anime.

twenty-some segments and you recommend the beach episode? are you trying to make him hate the show or what? i mean, not even the monkey lawyer or the above posted salaryman troll?

I think DonMarco is being sarcastic or something considering beach episodes, recap episodes, and (in most cases) music videos show up in a lot of animes and need to just die off?

but he lists the Transformers episode, which was pretty rad. it must be some bizarre sort of sarcasm in that case

also, more shows could use Transformers episodes. with suicide bomb-sexbots.

Crap that actually makes me reconsider a bit. I guess there's nothing else worth watching right now anyway. So what the hell, I'll go back and watch the show.

I watched that then I went in watched episode 1. I was not expecting to enjoy myself that furiously. The dialog is great.

Speaking of older anime, I've been rewatching Escaflowne recently. It's still great!

I grabbed the movie too, although it must not have been that great since I don't really remember much about it. The animation and new character designs are gorgeous tho.

BTW IMPORTANT PANTY AND STOCKING NEWS: Some awesome motherfucker got ahold of the OST early and uploaded the whole thing. It's legit!

Also it's easier to find recent stuff on the internet, especially streaming. Speaking of that, anyone know where to find tatami galaxy streaming?

Edit: Ha, apparently funimation is streaming it. Never mind.

I have said it before and I will say it again, PSG Most Dangerous Anime 2010, hands down. None in heaven and earth may challenge it.

Yes it was crass, yes it had a recap episode (oh noes, 12 minutes of recap, how can one possibly survive?), yes it had the token beach episode (a short, notably subdued beach episode that actually strived for something beyond fanservice...you guys didn't bitch about the beach episode in Gurren Lagann, did you?), but I really think some of you guys massively undersell the novelty of the faux-American cartoon experience in a medium so beset by navelgazing tedium (oh boy, a new ponderous adaptation of a mediocre light/visual novel! oh boy, another poorly executed robot show! oh boy, another vapid cute-girls-frolic-and-baby-talk-to-our-lonely-otaku-audience show! Kill me now...). The fact that something as actually DIFFERENT as Panty and Stocking is meeting success in today's not-so-sugoi anime world gives me the strength to keep on living.

(to crush Kenshiro with the new move I learned because Yuria's dying of cancer and that's SO SAD GODDAMMIT RRRRRRRRRAAAGH)

Back in the day I was all up into Record of Lodoss War, the shows, the manga, and the Dreamcast game. A Couple of weeks ago I found a volume of the manga I was never able to find before and was reminded of just how much I liked that series.

Why does a 12 episode series need a recap episode? Why does it need to take up an entire half of an episode? This complaint isn't levied only at PSG; I've seen other anime do it too and it seems superfluous.

This is great. Thanks for posting this!

As for Lodoss War, that opening to the second series is such a tease. If only the rest of it looked this good.

my hate of the beach episode comes not from the fact that it is a beach episode, but because it was bad. like, not much in the way of funny stuff and they phoned in the animation (seriously, it looked like they used the tween tool in Flash liberally)

otherwise, yes, PSG for bestest cartoon that wasn't Adventure Time 2k10

i have such a massive crush on old 90s anime character designs like that, too bad everything i ever heard about lodoss tv was "the opening is the best part"

That's pretty much true. The only thing I can remember from the show is the opening, and my finding it strange that a girl in the show wore loose, knee high socks and mary janes despite being surrounded by people wearing armor and boots.

Yeah, something about these designs in particular is just enjoyable to look at. I could stare at these all day.

That is some impeccable chance. I started to watch Lodoss TV no less than 12 hours ago. So far, I really like it as much as the OVA series. I say this as someone who also used to be very big on the series back in the 9th grade. I started off with the OVA, thanks to a sub VHS rental, but I had not got around to the TV eps until now. I guess Spark's party was not as cool as Parn's. I can live with that. Did anyone else like the hardcore SNES game?

honourable mention for the japanese take on arabian fantasy. i'm tempted to make a galaxy oddity thread regarding it.

but 90s fantasy japan cartoons are the best looking of all japan cartoons

Yeah, are there any recent anime monsters that come even close to looking like they could fuck something up as bad as these two could?

Makes you wonder what it was that motivated animators to put so much effort into the genre, and whether whatever it was might come back and do its thing again.

Obligatory Violinist of Hamelin mention. The opening is a goddamn lie they didn't animate anything in this cartoon.

surprisingly, on a recent viewing of Escaflowne, the noses are much less exaggerated than I remembered. Also surprisingly, the episodes themselves maintain the illusion of a large budget for more than half the episodes with competent direction.

Violinist of Hameln is easily one of the worst and ugliest cartoons I've seen.

As someone who watches mostly older anime, I don't believe it takes more or less effort to find either one. I had someone on IRC at one random day ask me about Glassy Ocean which is supposed to be really obscure by most people's level. they said they could not get the movie subbed. I wrote the name down in a site, found it in less than a minute. Ditto for the next one Ursa Minor Blue. If you can't find most on the sites above, you are not trying
