Ergo Proxy is fucking horrible.

Just pick up Stand Alone Complex and you're set.

Black Lagoon is a hell of a ride. The second series is even better.

Ergo Proxy is tedious pseudo-goth art-house crap. It wishes it was clever, and it wants to convince you it is, but it isn't.

I mean, sure, if the Wachowski brothers' films impress you, then yeah, you'll like it, but that speaks poorly for your taste.

You know something is shit when it has Paranoid Android for an ending theme.

So, who else is looking forward to this baby?

Satoshi Kon is one of the rare few anime directors I try to keep an eye on. Perfect Blue was great, then he overdid himself with Millennium Actress.

Speaking of, as far as series go, Paranoia Agent is one of the most entertaining animated series you're liable to see.

Absolutely nothing at all! It's probably his best work so far (Haven't seen Paprika yet, obviously).

Serial Experiments Lain is probably the best cyberpunk anime ever. Yes, even over Ghost in the Shell.

Is Planetes the only example of hard sci-fi in anime? Nothing else springs to mind.

I'd like to see the Starship Troopers anime. I hear it's very faithful to the book.

Grave of the Fireflies did nothing for me.

Elfen Lied has a good first episode then it's all downhill from there.

Monster is a better manga than it is a series, just so you know. The series isn't bad, but it's laughably directed, which does little to help the vibe. But at least they stuck in an Einstürzende Neubauten reference.

Armitage III isn't too shoddy either, as far as cyberpunk goes. Sure, it's more action-oriented, but still worth the look.

Yeah, I saw it when I was a teenager too, so whatever. I just remember it as being a superiorly entertaining anime, like Iria: Zeiram the Animation.

Come to that, in recent memory, I'd heartily recommend Read or Die as far as fun, stylish action OVAs go.

Sold. I watched the first chapter, and the show promises a lot.

It gets even better once you get to the second season.

Simply put, there is nothing more epic and grotesque than the first arc of the second season. More so than the Nazi arc of the original.

She is totally gorgeous and beyond words. The final arc is testament to this, and I simply love Rock's character development in that. There are genuinely good writers working on this action series, and I was pleasantly surprised, not to mention overjoyed, that they didn't overdo it. It makes perfect sense.

Have you watched Cowboy Bebop? It's like style over substance, but with substance. The humour is subtle and cool as it should be, and so is the character development. And yeah, the action is outrageous at times.

I'm also tempted to say that you should probably watch it dubbed, as the creators intended it.

The film is also utterly amazing and should be watched right after episode 23, if I remember correctly.

The French sci-fi comic Valérian et Laureline is being adapted into animated format. I love how it feels like such a fun throwback to the 80s Franco-Nippon stuff of my childhood like Ulysses 31 and such.

And in the original French. Watch both.

Yep, that's all of it, apart from the film.

Avoid the manga, though.

I know it's out in France since the end of last year, at least.

Oh, and it's fun as Hell.

Better yet, read it. The anime doesn't do that much justice to it, especially with all the forced Hollywood shots and such.

"A final message was posted to his website on his behalf on Wednesday, after his passing. His website is currently under heavy traffic load, but ANN archived a copy.

In the beginning of the message titled "Farewell," Kon recalled:

May 18 of this year, an unforgettable day.

My wife and I received the following prognosis from a cardiologist at the Musashino Red Cross Hospital:

"The pancreatic cancer is terminal and has metastasized to the bone. You have at most a half year left."

Later, he remembered meeting with MADHOUSE founder Masao Maruyama about the final anime film he was directing:

When I conveyed my concerns for Yume-Miru Kikai to Mr. Maruyama, he said, "It's fine. Don't worry, we'll do whatever it takes."

I cried.

I cried aloud.

He concluded his message with the following:

With feelings of gratitude for all that is good in this world, I put down my pen.

Well, I'll be leaving now.

Satoshi Kon"

"clearly done just to be different"

Fucking animators not sticking to routine styles!

I really don't know what's to get. It's about as straight-forward a cartoon you can get.

But it lacks the real strengths of anime, ie. the intricate, complex plots and the characters that bond with us in a deep emotional level.

lol

Slutty policewomen swearing in English killing zombies with vibrators and Ren and Stimpy murder of passion.

Stay classy, Panty & Stocking.

Oh man, Ergo Proxy is such a piece of shit, it's not even funny. The suggestion that it was "too smart" for its audience is utterly laughable. It's as pedestrian as this shit gets.

Sad that nothing will ever be like what Ghost in the Shell was to cyberpunk.
