I watched Excel Saga last week. I do not have much love for anime, but that was kind of fun--I caught a lot of references even without having seen the original works.

Yeah, I can't say I found the first couple episodes very engaging, either. I'd have probably dropped it myself if I'd had anything better to do at the time, but like the other shows I've convinced myself to watch, it got a lot better the closer I got to the end.

Hi! I don't think very much of anime most of the time, but I watched some "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" today and it was pretty alright.

Also holy shit this thread is huge.

If you felt that way, make sure to watch the whole thing. In my opinion, it really, really pays off over like the last five or so episodes.

After watching the first four episodes, I was ready to call it the best anime I'd ever seen. The last three episodes left me disquieted. I guess I'm not sure how to feel when the climax of the narrative and the climax of the plot are so disconnected. I mean, the end-of-season events are laden with significance, yet we've already seen that these are isolated events that don't really change the status quo much for some time yet. Still, I don't think it would work as well if it were presented in any other order, so I'm left with an ambivalent feeling until the next season comes out.
