Guys watch Slam Dunk.
SLAM DUNK is awesome. It Is blue skies. It's Naruto, only instead of learning kage bunshin he learns to lay-up and steal a rebound. |
Hell yes. I joined the middle school basketball club here as an assisstant coach, and once the actual coach discovered I knew absolutely nothing about the playing basketball he leant me the entire Slam Dunk manga series "in order to practice" as a joke. Great stuff though. Also the art is done by Inoue, who you may know from Vegabond or the art to Lost Odyssey, both inferior to Slam Dunk. And I liked Lost Odyssey.
Simon Belmont, this next paragraph is directed specifically at you and thus could have went in a PM but I'll put it here anyways: the original Gundam series is totally fucking radical. Maybe its just nostalgia talking (meaning nostalgia for the RONIN WARRIORS or whatever I used to watch as a kid, not gundam as I have never seen a single episode of any iteration of gundam before) but Gundam 0079 just bleeds character from every episode. About 10 episodes in and I just can't get enough of it. My favorite moments are right before the commercial breaks: usually a tense moment (she pulls out a gun! char takes off his helmet! ZAKU eyeball close up!) and then it cuts to the title card with a bang. I almost always feel like shouting something like "OH SHIT! ITS ABOUT TO GET REAL" when it happens. It is so pulpy and fantastic. They haven't gotten heavily into the Monster of the Week stuff yet, or if they have, it is so inoffensive (I loathe monster of the week stuff like naruto or bleach or yuyuhakushou or whatever seems to typically be on Adult Swim) that I don't even mind. Great stuff. Seal of Approval. A+++.

so is that a resounding "no" on Rideback then? I got pretty drunk a few nights ago and made it about 6 minutes into the first episode before passing out, but my hazy memories of the show give me a feeling of, uh, Haibane Renmei, maybe? I can't put my finger on it, but I did like the tones of the opening. I know that its about motorcycle mechs later on, but I wouldn't mind a more muted approach to it. I was going to give it a watch, but maybe not. _________________
