pretty sure every BF game up until this was Army. at least, on most maps.
you could always play the Medal of Honor reboot.

It looks nice.
I guess they're focusing on single player too this time around? _________________

my opinion on MoH is totally colored by the fact that i got a free copy and, by extension, essentially got a free invite to the BF3 beta. and the MP is half-decent.
which reminds me, i'm gonna have to shell out for W7 to play BF3. _________________

Who is seriously excited by BF3?
It's another boring first-person shootmans wartime game. Huge amounts of time, money, and resources are being spent on a lame single-player campaign that most of you won't ever play more than once. And it'll probably play itself, just like CODBLOPS. Who cares how good it looks? |

| I wouldn't say I'm excited, but I'm going to play it. Once, but that's not really uh, as terrible as you make that out? What's disgusting about it is the $100 million marketing budget. |

I mean, hell, I don't remember the last time I finished a game, let alone beat it twice. |

| Dino Crisis 2 is getting a North American PSN release this week, and it only came to Japanese PSN last week. Great news, play this game if you haven't. Threads of Fate is apparently also getting PSN release treatment this week for North America. |

Well the single player could go either way. BC1's single player is better than it has any right to be. BC2's tries really hard to be a medal of honor or call of duty. I mean, it definitely does it, but its pretty stale after the nice first game. The story is half decent, though.
But the reason to be excited about BF3 is the multiplayer----and fuck yeah I am excited. The Battlefield series is one of a handful of multiplayer games that I've ever tried and then continued to play for an appreciable amount of time. The BF series has seen a lot of my time. Battlefield 2 is largely regarded as the best PC multiplayer game ever (back when they didn't do singleplayer) and BF3 is being pushed as the true, numbered successor. As such, DICE's engine is being honed on the PC version first, then ported down to the consoles. Unfortunately, the consoles lack system RAM, so the player count is halved from the PC version which will likely mean smaller play areas on the maps. As such, I will likely be ditching my BC2 console pals for the PC version this time around.
Something I'm still waiting to hear about is whether or not the commander player role will return and what changes it may recieve.
In BF2Each team had one player act as team commander. He was given a sattelite/map view of the battlefield. On it he could see each squad on his own team and any enemies that were in direct field of view of his team. Using this map he could do a few important things:
Issue orders: attack here, defend here, hold this position, etc
He had ammo and health drops that could be parachuted to any general spot on the map. Players on his team could also specifically request the ammo and health drops and that person would be highlighted with a special symbol on the commander's map.
He also had UAV that he could deploy to aid his team.
Each team's main base had giant artillery batteries that could launch an air strike every few minutes. This was controlled by the commander. These batteries could be destroyed.
The commander is an actual physical player in the game. He has to hide himself somewhere so that he can utilize the map. At anytime he can move around and use a normal kit of weapons.
His map runs off a sattelite dish mounted somewhere at or near your base. This can be destroyed. I think the UAV ran off a seperate trailer that could be destroyed as well. |

i will second everything Toptube said. Battlefield games were never about single player (although BC1 found a comfortable middle ground between what we see in most military shootmans and the huge maps and vehicle play of BF multiplayer), but about people getting into a match and doing ridiculous bullshit with the tools presented to them to kill or otherwise impede the other team. the real point of excitement is the return of 64 player count, which will presumably lead into huge maps and more vehicles, and i guess more fully destructible stuff (if the bit at the end of the Fault Line trailer is being done in real time instead of being scripted, shit's gonna get hilarious in multiplayer).
hell, BC2's MP is a pretty good confidence booster in what they are trying to do with BF3, as long as i can still power tool people and tanks to death. although, hopefully they give the player back the ability to open doors (i know i've said that making players knife open doors in the BC games was stupid, but at least i didn't have stand around like an invalid waiting for a buddy to pop it open) _________________

I'm still waiting on Activision to unveil their Modern Warfare sequel that is actually a lame prequel about a character that barely served as a visual in the second title. _________________

hoping at least that there isn't a "story" reason for them to have 2 sonics and is just selecting 2D or 3D stages but that's probably hoping for too much

You know it would have been incredible if the game had been about time or dimensions getting melded together and not only are there two Sonics but there would also be two Robotniks and the two Robotniks would be constantly bickering with each other in their dialogues but then I remembered that both the good Robotnik VAs are dead :( _________________

I don't think I've put more time into any other game in the past year or two, and by that I mean its not even close. Whatever I spent on Demon's Souls is easily doubled, maybe tripled, by BC2 multiplayer.
I hope they drop BF2's jeep driving model directly into BF3 untouched. I've never had more fun driving anything with my keyboard. |

My experience is just the opposite (I spent multiple all-nighters enjoying Demon's Souls, delving into its little intricacies, trying out different character types, etc.), but Bad Company 2's hardcore multiplayer is really great. Or maybe I should say "was?" I dunno, when I started playing BC2 again, the HUD started appearing in HC. Wonder if that's a patch thing or something else, but either way, it wasn't the same and I really didn't enjoy it. _________________

You have spent millions of dollars making something that looks, sounds and moves less appealingly than a 20 year old Sega Mega Drive title |

I'm pretty sure around Colours, Sega mentioned that they would be having the two guys who did the MadWorld script write the sonic games from now on to avoid Sonic 2006 style pratfalls.
Now, if Sega were really shrewed, they would check Jaleel White's schedule to see if he was busy... _________________

Yeah, thanks but Jaleel White was one of the worst things they ever did to Sonic. Keep him a million miles away from this (pinned down under sustained sniper fire, I don't care) and bring back the TOOT TOOT SONIC WARRIOR woman.
Missed opportunity that they didn't cellshade classic Sonic in a Mega CD intro style. |
