Just got finished shaking my head at someone that said the classic Sonic levels look great and the modern Sonic ones don't.

I think the only thing I like about it is that classic sonic looks adorable.

It looks like the only difference, besides modern sonic having all the modern moves, is perspective?!

Jaleel White is the best

But the true answer is that he should shut up

I didn't see any boost rings or rails or anything in Classic Sonic's levels

They had it in the last 2 games, but they are Sonic Team and could always fuck it up

EDIT: On second watch there are multiple paths in the 2d parts, but like I said earlier, until I see how full multiple zones in a row play and what you have to do to get from level to level I can't start to actually think of this as a game. So sad that Colors is the exception that proves the rule

It bothers me that classic Sonic seems to get an immediate speed boost upon landing. Also he can brake immediately from a full running jump.

Oh well, looks better than Sonic 4 physics anyway.

Bethesda has been showing off TES V: Skyrim at their BFG event. This happened to be the first frothing preview I stumbled across this morning but have your pick.

If clicking that seems like too much trouble, allow me to list everything I remember from the preview I read half an hour ago:

- the interface is apparently real pretty. Multiple sources make a huge deal out of it, quite possibly prompted by Bethesda hyping it up something fierce.
- According to Bethesda the PC version looks the same as the console version (the console version was the one on display(maybe I won't even need another new videocard(they might've said the same about Obli and FO3 though and that turned out to be a god damned lie)))
- You can dual-wield stuff, shoot a lightning bolt out your left hand while holding a blade in your right or like shoot fire out one hand and ice out the other simultaneously I guess.
- Still rocking the Oblivionfaces
- They're banking heavily on their ever-entertaining AI again. Sidequests and plot incidents can apparently be assigned to NPCs at random. It sounds pretty amazing both in straight potential and potential for things to get hilarious.

I hope they stick to the nice funny kids cartoon fare of Colors or Unleashed but writing as bad or worse than Sonic 2006 would also be perfect

I'm thinking that's less of a hub world and more of a level hallway. You know, there are doors all down a hallway, you go in and do the level, you come back when you're done and the door is boarded up or something? Or like in some of the Kirby games where you have one room per area with several doors leading to levels.

Maybe they'll surprise us, but..

You can actually wield the same spell in both hands for a more-than-double super-effect. You can even wield a shield in each hand if you want. Might not be very useful unless you can go around shield-bashing people to death. But hey, no restrictions to dual-wielding is the key here.

On top of that, if a main-plot-critical NPC dies you don't get stuck in "the doomed world you just created", someone else takes over. Additionally, if you have to go fetch a quest item from a dungeon and you have already visited that dungeon, the engine places that object in a different dungeon you haven't visited yet.

Word on the e-street is that Nintendo is shutting down my favorite Mario 2/3/World clone & editor Super Mario Bros. X.

If you've never played it, its a fan developed game engine featuring 2 player simultaneous with the screen splitting and joining together as the players move about the stage. The physics are nearly dead on Mario world. You can also play as Zelda 2's Link.

The game was really blowing up so I suppose this had to happen eventually.

Wiki says:
On April 17 2011, Redigit (Andrew Spinks) commented on his YouTube page that he received a call from Nintendo's lawyers asking him to remove Super Mario Bros. X from SuperMarioBrothers.org and delete all SMBX videos from him Youtube account. They also asked him to transfer SuperMarioBrothers.org over to Nintendo.[citation needed] He complied with their first two wishes, but did not want to lose SuperMarioBrothers.org. He said, "It is a good Mario fansite, even without Super Mario Bros. X." Nintendo was going to decide on that and get back to him. Redigit has asked that no one post copies of Super Mario Bros. X on the internet, as it goes against Nintendo's wishes and might make things more complicated for him.

My pie-in-sky gamer nerd dreams include Nintendo buying the code/concept and distributing the game via Wii ware / DSi store. This is silly and I dont know why I must imagine these things.

I don't know whether to believe it or not, but it is gone either way and that's a shame. Even though it has terrible balance/difficulty curves, it is a pretty neat game.

I just discovered that the local arcade machine graveyard no longer exists. There's a three story building here in town that clearly used to be a thriving department store, but it's in a bad part of town, and has been a sort of giant indoor flea market for as long as I've gone there. The top floor was a higher-end thrift store (read: one where you might actually buy something there), and at some point the owner started collecting broken arcade machines for which he was asking WAY too much money, and the store gradually filled up completely with broken arcade machines, pushing everything else out, but apparently now he's gone out of business and the owner of the building threw them all away. I always got depressed when I went there, but it was still interesting in a museum sort of way. But now that it's gone I can't go anywhere in town to look sadly at broken arcade machines.

Isn't Castro supposed to be dead anyway? Has there been any proof that rumor that's been going around for years (which was partially founded on the fact that every picture of him lately he's wearing the same track suit, which he is wearing in that very post!) is substantively untrue?

Well, it's immaterial whether or not Castro the person is alive or dead. What matters is whether his regime persists, and now it seems to be starting to crumble. That's huge.

environments, yes. Gameplay looks dead boring. I think Fallout 3 has spoiled me by demonstrating that it's possible to make a post-apocalyptic game where you can move at your own pace and soak up the ambiance, and fights are fairly spread out, as opposed to games where you don't even notice the beautiful setting because you're too busy circle strafing mutants every five seconds and switching between your 40 different weapons, each one more gnarly than the last.

I mean seriously, why even bother putting this much detail into the world when your gameplay discourages enjoying it?

luvcraft, there was plenty of enjoying in that video.

the game looks fun, but the fights seem a bit slower than I was hoping. Maybe they are designing to the limitation of a gamepad.

Detail is just that. I'm there to shoot mutant freakbeasts, not admire skylines. Besides, surely you can kill everything around you and then stand still and look at whatever you want. It's not like the game is wave-based and the computer will spawn enemies at you into infinity (that's Left 4 Dead and its sequel, another couple of horrible, inconsiderate games!!).

I'm glad for the game, not glad for Ueda and Sony. There's no question that the game's going to lose money for Sony at this point, and the longer it takes the higher the losses.

I don't so much care about Sony's financials one way or another, but I want Ueda to make something that's both a critical and a commercial success simply to validate that quality, artistic games are a valid business option. Like it or not, that's the only way this industry's going to see any big, positive changes.

From that video, the appeal is that it seems to be veering towards a slightly more traditional experience. For what that's worth at this juncture.

If you're as bad at them as I am you'll have plenty of time to freecam around while waiting for all your friends to die so you can respawn.
