I feel kind of guilty for Lords of Shadow because I've been saying since 2005 that Castlevania needs a God of War style remake and now it's actually happening.
I'm so sorry guys. Though have you seen those videos of environmental exploration? That kind of thing is exactly what I meant. _________________

Doesn't look like the Crow to me, and I know my Crow. |
Yeah it struck me more as Heath Ledger Joker (sans colors, so they don't get sued) than the Crow, which seems more likely given the recentess of Ledger Joker. |
Except it's exact same face paint as The Crow. It only looks like the Joker because it's not as cleanly applied. I guess you could say they wanted to evoke both characters though.

I've only read Eon by Greg Bear, a story about Ralph Nader followers in the future. It was pretty good, actually. _________________

IW is alright on it's own. It's not Deus Ex but it's still a decent enough game. One thing it does that DX didn't really do was it let you play it your way when it comes to the story, as it always gave you the three-way choice between good/evil/meh, right up to the end. DX kind of forces you down a certain path after a point, then at the end lets you choose which ending. IW was more consistent overall, in that regard.
That said, it is a much more simpler game than DX. The story is weird; it assumes that all three endings in DX somehow happened and builds its world from there. The game got a lot of flack for being somewhat dumbed-down but it's still fun to experience the story like it was in DX (if that was what you were into with DX). _________________

Presumably from the GI article.
| Quote: |
Lara is 21 in this game
- It's not only a reboot of the franchise but a reboot of the entire brand. As a result there will be no "real" Lara model this time.
- They're doing performance capturing with this game
- There are brutal deaths in the game this time. One is described as a deranged man stabbing Lara in the chest and then closing her eyes after she's dead. Another includes a boulder falling on her leg to trap her before another falls and crushes her head.
- CD won't talk specifics on weapons but concept art shows a bow, shotgun and pistol
- The lock on targeting system is gone and it now has a free aim system. CD says that it can compete with any of their competitors.
- "I think that the major difference between this game and the old is the concept of smoke and mirrors," begins Darrell Gallagher, the studio head at Crystal Dynamics. "There was an illusion of freedom because of streaming and loading that would pop you out in a different location, but this is absolutely real. You can literally go any direction that you see and carve your own way to the finish line instead of being guide."
- "It was important in the game to not only deliver the character arc of Lara Croft emotionally, but to deliver it in gameplay as well so the player gets to grow into a hardened survivor," says experienced director Noah Hughes. As the game unfolds, Lara will scavenge new tools and gear that augment her abilities. Lara's athletic prowess will also evolve. Some areas begin inaccessible due to physical limitations or scarce supplies. With the right skills and gear, however, the island is Lara's for the taking.
- There are base camps in the game. Here you can combine items to create something new and access a skill system to upgrade Lara's abilities. You'll also be able to use base camps to fast travel to different locations to minimize backtracking.
- You'll need to gather food and water in order to survive
- There are humans in the game, including some of the crew members from the shipwreck off the coast of the island. |
So I guess they're making it like a free-roaming Uncharted but with a survivalist edge to it. Sounds neat. _________________

FF7 may have had something to do with it but I think they were just generally more experimental back then. After all, they released a side scrolling shooter in the same year as FF7. _________________

Arkane are now owned by Zenimax Media, a large multinational corporation – which means the studio’s soul will be crushed, its imagination will be quashed and it will never, ever perform a single kind act for its fans again. THAT’S WHAT CORPORATIONS DO. Flee! Panic! Cower!
Oh. They’ve, uh, just released the source code for its revered 2002 RPG Arx Fatalis (a game they once hoped to call Ultima Underworld III, but were stymied by Dark Powers). Also, a last-ever patch designed to make the game play hot-diggity-damndy-dandy on Windowses Vista and 7. In other words, they just made a dead game live again, for no reason other than that they wanted to. Guess those corporate types are alright after all! |

I'm kind of pissed that Bulletstorm isn't getting a PC demo. If I want to play it now I'm going to have to unplug the internet from my computer and plug it into my Xbox. Then sit and twiddle my thumbs while it downloads (if I have space on my harddrive). It's just very inconvenient. Plus I'll have no idea how well it runs on my computer until after it comes out and is piratable, and by that point why pay for it if I'm going to download it to see how it runs.
I only pay full price for new games that I absolutely must have asap (and there's like one of those kinds of games a year, if that) so I guess I could just wait a year or so until it's on sale on Steam or something. _________________

Meeting the system requirements and knowing how your computer is going to react to it are not quite the same thing.
I guess it's a moot point anyway since I don't usually care enough about more recently released games to go to the trouble pirating and cracking them and all that noise. Bulletstorm looks like fun but it's not exactly burning up my loins enough that I'd actually go to the trouble to pirate it. _________________

Yeah it's there, and it's only partially adequate. Still, moot point as my edit makes clear. _________________

| In other PC-gamers-are-second-class news, EA announced in very clear terms that the Dead Space 2 single-player story DLC Severed will not come to the PC. I'm really fucking tired of it being okay for a sixty dollar game on one platform to have less content available than the same sixty dollar game on a different platform for no goddamn reason. |
My solution: Stop paying 60 dollars for a videogame.
Totally agreed about the PC needing a demo most btw. _________________

Paying that much only encourages them to keep charging that much. _________________

Sure, lacking PC sales are always blamed on piracy. Yet things like the numbers from a given Steam sale would indicate that people are more than willing to actually buy a PC game if the price is something more realistic. _________________

DaggerfallSetup was done for install a ready to play Daggerfall easily on modern Windows Systems.
The game is already patched with the patch 2.13 and the official questpack CompUSA Special Edition and work with a already configured DosBox. In option, you can install many unofficial fixes and new quests. (See detail).
Like any Windows Setup, you can install Daggerfall anywhere on your computer. The setup can add a shortcut on your desktop, a folder in your start menu and a quick launch icon. Off course, you can uninstall Daggerfall as easily as you can install it.
DaggerfallSetup is fully compatible with DaggerXL : You just have to install DaggerfallSetup and change the DXL_Settings.txt file in the DaggerXL folder for direct into the ARENA2 folder of your Daggerfall instalation (Installed with DaggerfallSetup) to take advantage of fixes and patches from DaggerfallSetup in DaggerXL. |

It runs like a charm too! Though for some reason I can't get DaggerXL to run but eh. DXL is far from complete anyway.
edit-Xenogears was almost a masterpiece. I never made it to disc 2 but I think I got a good ways into disc 1. Yes to everything Cuba said about the towns. Next to the overall ridiculousness of the plot itself the towns are the greatest thing about the game. _________________

I dunno I think it looks pretty cool? It'll be a while yet before anyone does anything worthwhile with it but just knowing that within a few years stuff that looks like that could be running in real time is kind of exciting to think about.
Also looking at these images makes me want someone to do a really nice looking, hyper-detailed Blade Runner-esque game environment with lots of rainy smog choked streets filled with people in plastic overcoats standing in kiosks for me to walk around and bump into and shit. _________________

Also you can read the site without the stars by simply not allowing it in NoScript or something similar like that, but if you do then it's a totally white background. _________________

There is no single Anonymous. I doubt there is that much overlap between the Anon targeting banks and the Anon targeting Sony. Or there might be actually quite a bit, who knows. _________________
