Speaking of Fincher and adapting bad novels into hopefully superlative cinema, how's the Norwegian Wood film?

Word to the wise: Last Year in Marienbad is getting a reissue across UK cinemas, as is Film Socialisme.

Sadly, the former doesn't seem to be showing here in Cambridge. :(

Maybe the prequel will end with everyone dying and then two side characters you know nothing about and who don't speak English despite having been stuck with an English speaking cast fly off in a helicopter chasing a dog.

Also, check out The Things.

Everyone leaves out Alphaville because it's sci-fi.

Quote:
“In his original nurse photos and the fan conversation that ensued, Tim had clearly scratched the surface of a really great concept – the idea of a film noir depiction of a beautiful nurse who uses her sexuality to very severe ends,” explained Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate’s President of Production and the executive in charge of the film.

Yeah, RoboCop 2 gets a bad rap. Besides anything else, I don't know how you can hate on the animation of the robots. Also, the same director did Empire Strikes Back.

If you can find it, the comics adaptation of Frank Miller's original script is worth a look, since it reunites the plot threads that later got used in both 2 and 3, and it's just pure mayhem from beginning to end.

God, I hated that movie. The moment one character earnestly said "Without death, life is meaningless", especially. Mainstream French sci-fi films and their ridiculously misguided and disgusting attempts at intellect.

Not even Viktor Antonov's designs could save that one.

Pan's Labyrinth is pretty garbage aside form the special effects. Suffers from the same problems as Schindler's List, except nowhere near as interesting and even more morally offensive.

Point is, watch The Devil's Backbone instead. Or The Orphanage if you want a better del Toro produced film.

Texican Rude, you didn't answer whether your collection includes Dark Fury or not. :(

CoSo, Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty comes out next week, at least over here, but did you know there's also an adaptation of her The Hunter due out then too?

If this indeed a new track from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score, it's ace.

It's a ridiculous shaggy dog story.

The theatre was crowded when I went to see it and the moment the credits hit I was the only one bursting with laughter. :O(

Quote:
An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.
Each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the deadly terror plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border, where they engage in an epic firefight with an outcome that has potentially unimaginable consequences for the future of America.

Honestly, the only reason I'm considering seeing it is the strength of its UK trailer.
