I'm not sure how you do Robocop in this day and age. I mean, wasn't half of the premise was that in the future, crime was going to get to batshit-insane levels in America's cities? If anything things kinda leveled out or started dropping off about 20 years ago.
Wait, I've got it - he's going to be a cyborg forensic accountant. |
The other half was about corporate greed and corruption, the sheer absurdity of media dialectics and mass consumption and the ineffectuality of superheroics.
So yeah, still ripe material. _________________

I post this here because it's the only place I feel it's possible to do so without insulting a ton of people. If you loved Sucker Punch, I apologize ahead of time and in my defense, I just want to say; I have not seen this movie. Maybe it's really awesome.
Rather, what I'm noticing is nothing to do with the movie, only something all the people I know who liked it had in common. And that is, to a man, they're all men with almost no ability to relate to women. They're men who've been raised to see the opposite sex as alien, "the other," and whose only awareness of them comes from Comics, Anime, and Porn.
They fucking love this movie. |
| Quote: |
Now, I don't know, but I'm beginning to suspect that the reason they love this movie isn't so much that they enjoy seeing hypersexualized adult women dressed and presented like 12-year olds, but rather that WHEN women are presented in this manner, they can *relax* and see the characters. They think "Ahhhh, THIS is what I've been taught to understand women are!" They're not threatened by the girls in the movie, they don't even really see the costumes or the presentation, it's invisible to them. So they're free, in this completely unchallenging environment, to pay attention to the girls as characters.
Now, I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if what they then see is imagined, or part of Snyder's vision. That's not my point. The guys who've seen and liked the movie are NOT responding with "that was awesome, pretty young girls in high heels kicking ass," rather it's been this really revealing analysis of the characters. |

I could be down for this. Would be especially interesting if neither parties were voiced and Morrison just pushed the visual storytelling as much as he could.
Which reminds me, whatever the Hell happened to the WE3 film? _________________

Why? It looks as awful as the prior films.
The only funny thing about that teaser other than how dumb the Karen O/Trent Reznor Immigrant Song cover sounds is everyone losing their shit because "it looks no different from the original films!"
Of course it doesn't! The original films were shot by people whose only frame of cinematic reference was bloody David Fincher.

The books are terrible and you should read this, which is even funnier now that this is actually happening.

| Supposedly, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and George Clooney all want to play the part of Mikael Blomkvist in the upcoming American remix of the Swedish films. If that happens, then maybe they can make the constant bedhopping stuff believable, but it still seems pretty g-d unlikely that there's going to be an American movie where the main male character has seven to nine sexual trysts with different female partners, even if they make the films three hours long, which is what the Swedish ones will be when they come out on DVD. That doesn't leave a whole lot of time for whatever female actress they get to play Lisbeth, and you should remember: she is the only thing that is interesting about these books. It will be pretty funny if David Fincher does actually make the movie (although he probably will choose not to as that will interrupt his favorite hobby, which is thinking about making movies but not making them) because the Swedish films were made by directors who have clearly only seen one movie in their entire life, and that movie was directed by David Fincher and was called Se7en. |

I'm also going by how dull - if not awful - Hannibal, Gangs of New York and American Gangster were, despite their directorial pedigrees. _________________

Because this world makes no sense.
Also, lionising Spielberg just because.
Makes for a Hell of a dark comedy, mind you. _________________

I'm just bringing it up because of the insane pacing, quick cuts and focus on nothing more than Bond as a bastard.

Got to see Akira on the big screen and it's amazing how well it holds up in light of its age. That budget was definitely overkill. _________________

There is one sequence where a group of hard men take on three or four Decepticons who are executing Autobot prisoners, yeah.
This being after the Decepticons have occupied Chicago. _________________

The Tree of Life is not as much of a palate cleanser after Transformers 3 as you'd expect.
Reminds me of the Qatsi trilogy in some instances, mind. _________________
