I think Certified Copy might be my favorite of his. It's up on KG for anyone living outside the festival circuit.
Mustache, did Kiarostami give any interesting answers? I read recently that he's thinking of making a film in Japan with Binoche. |

| No. Certified Copy is probably Kiarostami's most accessible work, a perfect starting point. I'd recommend you see that and Close-Up, before going on to more difficult fare like Taste of Cherry and The Wind Will Carry Us. |

Barnes & Noble is having their annual Criterion sale.
The BBS boxset is still listed near full price though >:( |

1. fuck, there goes my monies
2. any general recommendations (been wanting to pick up House on BD, might as well grab some other stuff so people think i have taste)? |
I'd go with The Night of the Hunter, which is coming out later this month. It's truly one of the great American films, and the supplements look outstanding.
But the smartest bets are on the box sets. |

| I'm not going to be able to watch it, but at 8 ET tonight, the restored Metropolis will be on TCM. You better catch it. |

| Saw Paperhouse, and it's definitely one of the better children's fantasy films I've seen. The scene of the girl taking a photo of her father, legitimately startled me. |

I found this great tumblr, but the dude who runs it doesn't tag his films caps. I emailed him to identify some I was curious about, but he didn't respond :(
So alas, I turn to the impossible task of asking if anyone of you can identify them. I'm going to go mad because of this.

| The novel is great. I'm really curious on how Mattie Ross translates in the film. |

My personal choice would be Terrence Malick from an alternate universe where he was a nihilist instead of a romantic.
Or Stanley Kubrick's resurrected corpse. |

True Grit was an excellent western. Top tier Coen's. The gal who played Mattie Ross was superb. But it does not surpass the source material, and to be fair it would be quite difficult.
NITPICKS IN CONTRAST WITH THE NOVEL: The cabin shootout was much more tense and detailed in the novel with La Beouf sharp shootin' rather than being a tied up fool, the snake pit lacked bats :(, the outlaw camp with Ned Pepper was too truncated for my liking.
READ THE BOOK Y'ALL.

| Also, say what you will about Aronofksy being the most unsubtle and overwrought of filmmakers (I won't argue), but the last act of Black Swan was SUBLIME. I want to watch those last 20 minutes again and again. TCHAIKOVSKY!!! |
