I found this great tumblr, but the dude who runs it doesn't tag his films caps. I emailed him to identify some I was curious about, but he didn't respond :(

So alas, I turn to the impossible task of asking if anyone of you can identify them. I'm going to go mad because of this.

i saw 'kuroneko' the other night and it was amazing. i don't know if this is the sort of thing that is showing in theaters in other places but if for some reason you are near the nuart theater in los angeles soon you should probably see it

the plot and stuff is kind of boring but if you are a fan of things that look and sound amazing you should see it

"Why isn't Green Lantern black?"

This is a pretty great switch on the usual sort of racial outcry you're more liable to spot when it comes to casting.

In which film does Cage fight girls, and is it the perfect excuse to watch The Wicker Man?

That is indeed The Wicker Man and that movie is one of Cage's funniest

Great, can he avoid turning it into a sub-par genre flick?

That couldn't have been weird at all.

So, why is Black Swan not showing anywhere in Portland this weekend...?!

man what if we place equivalent priority re: the seeing of this film and we totally see each other at fox tower but don't actually recognize one another

and what do I tell CoSo if I really like it I mean

(Seems like Portland usually gets the second week of the end-of-year almost-prestige awards-bait slow rollouts anyway)

I also watched Enter the Void on IFC On Demand today. It seemed to go on all day too.

Knowing what I know about Gaspar Noe's movies I expected it to be kind of revolting ('cause that seems to be what Noe is good at), but the only thing I could say is that the music and constant flashing lights were trying to make me sick I guess. Other than that there were sex scenes and a pretty neat vagina-cam at the end.

A lot of it was great though. I loved the first-person Bioshock-o-vision (they even had a shot where the guy looks directly at the mirror), and a lot of the cuts and flybys were really impressive CG-wise.

It also has what now are my favorite opening credits ever. The designer in me likes the insane typography!

The opening credits were easily the best part. The rest of the movie was boring adolescent pseudoprofundity.

Yeah, some of the brother/sister kissing scenes in the flashbacks did raise a few eyebrows (mine).

The extended cut of The Town has quite a few different scenes. There's one with ben affleck just sitting around at home watching Heat. There's more stuff from the book but the ending is still the same.

Black Swan

Body Horror

Crying Girl Behind Me: "I hate this movie."

Mirrors

Freudian doubling

More mirrors

Natalie Portman looking scared

Overbearing sound

Overbearing mother

"My Sweet Princess"

So-so acting

Shaky Cam

Wrestler but with ballerinas and horror cliches

Mediocre short story plot

Orchestral stings

People laughing at inappropriate times to let off tension
(Or maybe they just thought that guy had a funny accent)

Most CGI of any Aronofsky movie

"Psychological" "Thriller"

"Erotic" "Tension"

"Edge of Your Seat"

The missing link between "Single White Female" and "Persona"

Nice reinvention of dancing shots

Visceral

By the end all pretensions have been stripped away

Oh God the Body Horror. Some of those scenes were High Octane Nightmare Fuel for me.

I just got back from seeing Black Swan. I was really just at a loss for words for like 45 minutes afterwords. I definitely loved it, but I don't think I ever want to see it again.

I'd offer some pithy critique about the story and the use of horror cinematography tropes, but, honestly, I like it less the more I try to analyze it- and I don't think that's any fault of the film.

Body horror plus high art is a win any day in my book.

Oh, and if the portrayal of ballet culture is accurate (I don't know if it is, I lived with a ballerina for like a year and she was very laid-back and pleasant), then my ill-conceived prejudices against the medium were dead on.
