Well, huh. I was under the impression that I owned them all now, but I guess I missed one :3
Still don't like the 3d. |

You can safely skip Raiden III, it does nothing that the sequel doesn't improve on. The ship is also painfully slow.
KOF Sky Stage (and its PSP upgrade Neo Geo Ultimate Shooting) is an okayish Shikigami-like by the same developers. I'd recommend it if the upgrade ever goes on sale. |

I love Air Gallet
the second stage when the tanks weave in and out of sight (behind buildings, under overpasses) is just brilliant. :3 _________________

The painfully slow ship speed is what Raiden is all about! Also player 2 is slightly faster horizontally. I dunno, it's probably just stockholm syndrome from the week I spent 1 crediting it. I wouldn't recommend Raiden III to anyone at this point.
Heck yeah man high five
Guys we haven't done the shooting game design podcast yet but that would be an awesome one if you ask me |

Yeah, an STG podcast has been long overdue. I might even be willing to join in.
I just think Raiden III feels a lot slower than the other games. Some of this might be the 3D and slightly skewed perspective, but IV is definitely swifter.
Air Gallet is amazing, but damn that difficulty curve's sharp. Can only barely clear stage 2 on one credit. Did Gazelle's staff (besides Joker Jun) end up assimilating into Cave? They both started as remnants of Toaplan. |

Just picked up a copy of Deathsmile Deluxe, thanks to Rising Star Games. It has taught me that I shouldn't judge games by their covers!
Still don't like little girl aesthetics, though. I'll take starfighters any day. _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud

Tradewest is a now-defunct American video game company based in Corsicana, Texas that produced numerous games in the 1980s and early 1990s. The company is best known as the publisher of the Battletoads and Double Dragon series in North America and the PAL region.
The Tradewest name was revived in August 2009 by Midway Games's former European subsidiaries which rebranded themselves as Tradewest Games. They inherited the name from the American company parent which owned the Tradewest trademark. |

As if the regular LE of Akai Katana Shin wasn't enough.. Cave have chosen to offer a version that comes in a custom PCB box and includes a special POP with the 360 control layout:

Deathsmiles IIX is getting a North American 360 release. courtesy of Cave themselves?!?!? Pretty big news. Remains to be seen whether it's a disc release, Games on Demand, or what.
Also, I was lucky enough to snag a pre-order for the ridiculous Akai Kataka Cave Shop version (they went FAST). About the only company I'll put up with that kind of "deluxe edition" nonsense with, but I'm hooked. PCB box is too cool. |

| If Cave is gonna break from Aksys and start doing their own thing here (iOS aside), a US release of Akai Katana seems quite likely. |

| DSIIX's graphics are some real upscaled Dreamcast shit. Considering this, it seems they made fairly good use of them, but I wasn't surprised when they returned to their old hardware for Akai Katana.. |

Guys, I've been playing a lot of Otomedius Excellent since it arrived on Friday... it's really fucking easy. I've been destroying Normal and Expert Story Mode (No Miss Clear pretty much every time) in order to unlock weapon cards, extra playable characters and cheevos. If you've played any Gradius games in the past, I think you'll find this game a cakewalk.. that being said, I think the overall design of the game is much better than the first game. I definitely want to try out the 3-player co-op mode. _________________ "Amidst utter chaos lies strict order."

Finally got around to playing some Muchi Muchi Pork (had it a while but was awash in other things to play and do) and it's so much fun I love it. Still having that problem with every shmup where I try to score even though I'm so bad that even a 1cc is far, far off. But the scoring in MMP is pretty fun with the meter management and giant beams.
Though I don't remember the scoreboards for Mushi Futari and Esp II being so barren... I got in around 350 just partly through the 2nd stage. Was the MMP/PS pack unpopular, or am I just misremembering the scoreboard presence on the other region-free Cave shooters? _________________

| Be still my beating heart! My head is up in the clouds right now, and I need you guys to let me know if it's okay to be this happy. My friend was surfing the Japanese marketplace on the 360 and apparently Senko no Ronde DUO is up for download for 30,000 yen. Can I download this to my US 360 and play it? |

Not just region-locked, they're also IP locked. You wouldn't be able to download it... well, not without faking a Japanese IP initially. _________________ "Amidst utter chaos lies strict order."

Has anyone here played this and can report? Wartech is under 10 dollars at EBgames by now and is still rollicking good fun against the two people I can convince to play it with me. DUO certainly looks (and sounds) a lot better, but one can only tell so much from the youtubes
Iunno i was thinking about grabbing a J360 and this would be the clincher if there's a physical release for it |

Senko no Ronde DUO was released almost a year ago catrider, and it's available. Not cheap, but it is an awesome game. It's what got me to buy a J360. I've written a couple of reviews for it and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Online players are way too good for me, sadly.
My hope is that someone with the arcade HDD will dump the TypeX2 version so everyone can just play it on the PC. _________________

Maybe people would be interested in playing Virtua Fighter if they actually sold it.

I love Virtua Fighter, but I doubt that, especially in a post-MVC3 world, anyone is going to have the patience to actually sit down and work to learn a character.
I mean that's always been its "problem", but now that people can just go wail on their pad and do 100-hit combos in Marvel, I just think the world is going to be even more hostile to the Real Man's Fighting Game. |

I really don't think this is the issue Virtua Fighter's up against. VF has never done well here, it's always been underground, the kind of game where people would rent out a hotel on long island for the weekend just so people can meet up and play each other. Marvel's existence seems pretty irrelevant to the discussion, outside of youtube-level flame baiting.
Also wow I thought this was the fighting game thread. I am genuinely confused how this happened. |
