Most Quake linage games are fast. Quake III is quicker than that, even. |
Despite having a very soft spot in my heart for Half Life 1 and similar games I have to say I'm so very happy most shooters are slower nowadays. I was getting sick just watching that. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

Talk about CRATE HELL! That map brings back some wild memories of my middle school days playing all sorts of HL mods, some twitchy like that and others not so twitchy. I hate crates. _________________

HL deathmatch was so much fun, with the laser-guided rockets. _________________

yeah the laser guided rockets were great and watching that video I kept thinking how a half life deathmatch version would be quite improved by either cutting or making every weapon as good as crossbow, tau cannon, rocket launcher, shotgun (mines, satchel charges and snarks should stay unaltered just for atmosphere) _________________

Quake engine, they just added pretty much all the features of the Quake 2 engine during development but the two are very different. |
Oh I didn't know this! That's pretty interesting. Playing the two games feels very similar, I'd have never known there were any major differences engine-wise.
Edit-Shit Bleszinski has goat pupils in that video. That was freaking me out but I couldn't figure out why. Either way I'm pretty sure by this point that Bulletstorm is going to to be the shit and am somewhat baffled that anyone is looking forward to Homefront, let alone taking it seriously. _________________

This game needs to be faster. And why in the fuck does it have right-mouse-button-look-down-the-barrel nonsense aiming mode. This huge marketing campaign replete with the YEAH BRO aesthetic that is too over the top to even qualify for what they're going for just looks bolted on to a started Year 2010 (srry 11) manshoot with grimy Unreal movement and some ridiculous story that will take itself nearly seriously and be full of talking heads uggghhh. I hope the score system is worthwhile rather than just there as an excuse to put a bunch of numbers on the screen (achievement unlocked: MEGASCORE achievement unlocked: LOTSOKILLS achievement unlocked: U HIT THE FIRE BUTTON achievement unlocked: ERRTHING DIED BROSKI all at once when you shoot a crate or some shit)
I actually do want to like this game but man are they trying to keep me away |

Solution: Ignore the marketing campaign and just check out the demo when it comes out. _________________

For sure, but then again, you'd have to wonder just how much support it would have garnered over time if it deviated even the slightest from the beaten path. I'm more interested in the game as an experiment for indie development and distribution than anything else. It play solidly as well too. _________________

Wow that looks absolutely boring! Maybe the game plays better than that trailer suggested but man who could possibly care about yet another sci fi first person shooter chock full of the most pernicious cliches of shooter design? _________________

Yeah it's pretty cliched and generic looking but I'm sucker for bodily awareness in games so I'm giving their latest demo a spin.

Currently halfway downloaded. I expect the game itself to be competent but like Dracko said the real story here is that this is more an experiment by an independent studio at making something that can compete with the big boys. _________________

I think space marines done totally straight in a near-future, intra-system kind of sf universe, that really concerned itself with verisimilitude and maybe even a bunch of hardcore sf elements, would be awesome. This is more like that than any other game I can name, except Shattered Horizon. Not that this is that really. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Verdict: They've got the shooting part down. You only fight robots in the demo that run straight at you though. _________________

| Unfortunately, it's just all the more ironic now that Bulletstorm is guilty of adhering to every "boring" modern shooter trend (constant objectives, railroading, regen, iron sights, limited weapons). |

| Not asking this as a "gotcha!!", just curious because I can't think right now also I'm hardly the most FPS-literate guy here, but how many notable console FPS games haven't had limited weapons in a good while now anyway? |

probably none. limited weapons exist because halo, but they more exist because they go well with a controller
I guess Bioshock would be one |

Half-Life Motherfuckin 2. To me, that's one of the huge things that still separates it from all the Halo/CoD-inspired pretenders since.
Also Bioshock, but that game sucks. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Oh, I did miss that "console" snuck in there. In that case, yeah. neg's right; on a pad it's just easier to have a single "weapon switch" button than using the d-pad or scrolling through a list somehow (d-pad or shoulder buttons or while paused or something). Case in point: both Bioshocks. I'm also playing New Vegas on PS3 right now and it's really awkward to map all your weapons to the d-pad and switch between them all time, every time I play it I wish I had it on PC instead. (Partially this is because New Vegas is programmed like a piece of shit and every time you switch weapons the game chunks for a second because it has to load the new weapon model. But it's also the controls.) _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

right. so, as much as it may seem anathema to era of shooters it's trying to call back to, why are we holding this against bulletstorm? |

The point is that with the speed and fluidity with which Bulletstorm is meant to be played, as a console-centric (-exclusive?) release, there's no good way to organize multiple weapons on a pad.
Also I've watched videos of it and I swear to god the guy has like four weapons. Am I missing something? _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Three weapons, D-pad selects.
Which I guess is one slot more than Halo/Cod, if you're feeling generous. |

Well yeah that's what I mean.
I watched someone play the demo and it looks like you'll have more, but you have to choose a limited set before going into the level. I guess I get the impression that because of the scoring system we're supposed to be framing this maybe like we would a shmup (or maybe DMC3 or something). We pick our "ship" and with that specific set of tools push our score to the furthest possible but strictly on a level to level basis. |

But Serious Sam had scoring AND unlimited weapons :(
Also DMC4 let you switch styles as Dante with the D-pad and was much, much better off for it. At least as far as movesets were concerned. |

| it's a game about score and creativity. you should get access to whatever they put into the damn game. it's like BE CREATIVE (but u better like the pistol lol). assign a gun to each direction on the dpad, drop the superfluous iron sights (PRETTY REALISTIC GAME BETTER TAKE GOOD AIM OR U WILL MISS) and put a left trigger modifier on each direction for four extra guns. or double tap the dpad directions. whatever. |
