| i just rated monster tale. this is generating a lot more interesting recommendations for me now than it did in the first few months. i do wish there was some kind of categorization system beyond tags that factored into recommendations and/or could be used to filter them, and that arcade and more older games were included. but i'm definitely happy with how it's going and i think i'll be a regular user from now on. |

honestly, if it recommended me Adventure and Raiders of the Lost Ark because i said i like Majora's Mask i'd think that was pretty cool. but i'd find a more comprehensive listing of late-80s-and-up console/arcade/notable pc games more useful than a surface sampling starting from farther back.
for me it's like this: if i'm already interested in something and there's a low monetary/hassle investment to play it, i'll just give it a shot. if there's a high investment, then stuff like this place is going to far outweigh an automated recommendation. the greatest value i see from reccr is alerting me to/reminding me of the existence of intriguing things that require a fairly low investment to play. so lesser-known console games, indie freeware, mobile games, gog stuff, that's what i'd like to see more of. i understand browser-only games seem like a slippery slope but i think if some level of notability can be established, maybe with a link to a gamasutra feature or recommendation on a major indie gaming blog, they should be included. |
