Eh. Depends!

I bought my girl this shirt on a whim as a replacement for the X-Men T shirt she used as a night shirt. Next thing you know I'm getting pictures back from Japan months later and she's running around in it, including this one of her making a disgusted face at one of the other exchange-student couples in her class.

Apparently she really likes that shirt, despite telling me she doesn't normally wear geeky stuff in public. Then again it is Japan.

But yeah it takes some doing to get her to tell me what she wants sometimes. :|
Then again, that is a rather non-geeky design. It has like an onion and a cute turnip and a mushroom and some sort of soup so it feels like one those cute-gross things rather than the normally horrible standard of videogame tees.

Also, that IGN list lacked the fantastic Droid swimsuits.

That's true, although there's a LOT of those shirts floating around nowadays, where they're usually unofficial and make sort of oblique references to games that only people who play games are going to get.

Shameful admission, I own about 30 of those, although I get to wear them to work and nobody bats an eye. Plus they're usually cheap.

i guess it's not things like firefly itself (i rreally like buffy the vampire slayer in my early teens!) but the way that ign and the big bang theory and xkcd have created this one, singular nerd/gamer achetype thing, that so many people are willing to fit themselves into as firmly as possible

there's a lot of nostalgia about these parts about vhs fansubs and import hunting back when it was hard, and i don't think it's meant as elitism as in "we had a hard time getting what we wanted and so should you", but rather the fact that we were willing to do such things, going ouside/around normal channels to get the things we wanted, and having to do some research just to find out that those things even existed, compared to the people i'm mad at just lapping up everything that's got a giant marketing budget pointed directly at them, and never even thinking that there's anything else

Can you imagine being DEEPLY IN LOVE with a for-reals Kingdom Hearts fan? Over the age of 20? That is some romantic tragedy right there.

I've seen it happen. It's not so bad as you might think (provided you can draw to keep her thirst for useless KH drivel), but they broke up years ago. He now dates an awesome, ultra-geeky Transformers fan that is also into wrestling, so there might still be hope for you Loki-kun :3
