I like how in that video, Ed Boon was really excited about the level of violence in the new MK game, but was a little apalled that someone would think there would be nudity in it.
I'm still really looking forward to it and considering getting it. _________________

So odd that a company that shoehorned Venom into a movie would be so adamant about "NO VENOM IS COVERT OPS NOW".
It's a fanservice game, Rogers is Captain America, Magneto is a villain and sentinel uses the capcom design. |
Everything related to Spider-man is a very touchy subject with Marvel right now and they are very keen on keeping current Spider-man continuity as the one true path.

Though with the comments regarding DLC being somewhat held back and the game dropping like a stone after its first week sales. Capcom's probably being somewhat reserved about it. People really are not happy with the rushed release and there is not good word of mouth about it at all (As in the Fighting engine is fine, but the game modes are weak as hell) and that challenge tower video has swung a massive amount of hype towards MK as that game is stacked as hell. Will be interesting around Captivate/E3/SDCC what they will do with the future of the game. |
Shouldn't the fighting engine really be the only thing that matters? Really, online spectator mode should be in there, but isn't everything else just fluff? _________________

With the big push Mortal Kombat properties are getting, new game, old movies on Blu-ray and web series, I'm kind of surprised and sad they didn't go the full 9 yards and finally release a box set of Mortal Kombat Conquest. I'm sure it was a horrible show, but I have fond memories of it. _________________

Who all is going to get Mortal Kombat? I pre-orded mine from Amazon a few days ago. I hope I will have some dudes here to play with. _________________

I was surprised when my friend and I popped in Mortal Kombat Trilogy a year or two ago and ended up having an absolute blast. We were playing Noob, Smoke, and various other teleport characters and just flying all over the place. I was really surprised when our matches ended up looking a lot like those old Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter videos. By the way, Why is it that UMK3 gets all the love instead of Trilogy?
I ordered it For X-box, but now I'm having second thoughts. I lucked into a PS3 for free over the weekend, it has a much more convenient online situation for me, my karate teacher said he pre-ordered it for PS3 and another friend might be getting it for that as well. On the other hand, I only have an arcade stick for the 360, and my Gold membership just auto-renewed. I guess I still have a day or two to decide. _________________

Yeah, the klassic kostumes are really cool looking. Do we know what the deal is with the ones we didn't pre-order? Are they normal unlockables in the game or are they paid DLC or what? _________________

No one's been able to figure it out, as far as I know. Hopefully it's the former and the pre-order bonus just lets you unlock them early. I'm really impressed by the alternate outfits in this game. Have you Cyrax and Sektor's? SPOILER if anybody wants to find this stuff themselves: They have alternate costumes of them in human form. You can see Cyrax has bombs on his belt and Sektor has a flamethrower fuel tank on his back. I don't know how they handle animation wise, but in a video you can see Cyrax's teleport, instead of being green numbers like before, is instead a more ninja-y puff of smoke with flashes of electricity. (Video at 1:11 and 1:17) Those kinds of touches to the alternate costumes are really cool and show NetherRealm Studios put a lot of work into them. |
Yeah, I'm really happy about this. The more new stuff comes out about this game, the more I like it. It is kind of weird seeing Ermac in MK1 ninja garb though. I like how Smoke's costume is basically just an MK3 ninja suit, but I hope he has an alternate that covers up that hair. All the long hair I've seen in this game looks really weird and bad.
Also, I'm Renfrew87 on X-box and PS3, but I'll probably just stick to the 360 version. Add me if you want to do some online playing. _________________

Last night, I was thinking, "I'm so hype for MK9, I want to try out some old MOrtal Kombat again. Deception can't be as bad as I remember." And then it was and I was horrified and started losing hype for the new game. Please tell me it plays better than Deception. _________________

I finally got the MK demo to work. It met or exceeded expectations. I can now go back to frothing without fear.
ALSO: How come they keep failing to use the Mortal Kombat theme in the games? That's half the reason the movie is regarded as well as it is. _________________

Probably. I'd want a lot of money for it.
I just saw something really cool on Youtube (Spoilers): You can fight hidden battles against Klassic ninjas by doing similar things to how they were fought in the originals. In the forest stage, sometimes Smoke pokes his head out from behind a tree. When he does, press the back button (select) and down, and you'll fight him. Not only will he be wearing his klassic costume, but he will use the moves he used back in MK 2. Reptile is discovered in a pretty much much the same way as before. I also saw a video of a Klassic Noob fight and read in the comments about Ermac, but I don't know how you get to them. _________________

I used to have the MK movie soundtrack, but I can't find the CD now.
They are already releasing a patch for the new games. I wouldn't be surprised if they patched the Klassic Kostumes in at some point to mess with the street breakers or after any exclusive kontent deals with the pre-order distributors run out. _________________

with that being said, when mine finally arrives I am going to try out block and throws the left most column and move the attacks to the center columns. That way my hand can rest in the center and it should be pretty easy to shift over to the left to hit those two. _________________

I agree with you both. Smoke and Noob were always my favorite characters. I just always felt special when playing them since they were hidden characters in 2 and 3. I knew going into this game I was going to watch them. I watched the Noob announcement trailer over and over again. Even though they are radically different from how they were in 2, I'm still having a blast playing them. I can finally play this again (had to buy a new X-box) and as soon as I get comfortable enough playing singles, they are going to be my first tag team. _________________

You don't pick characters in story mode, you're assigned a character for each chapter.
And I don't like Sub-Zero in this game at all. |
I was listening to a podcast with a guy who play tested the game for months and he said Sub-Zero is going to end up being the best character in the game. Unfortunately, the host was really obnoxious and dumb and wouldn't shut up long enough to let him explain. _________________

Mortal Kombat Legacy part 4 is out. It's definitely taken a sharp left turn from where it was expected to go. Also, it looks like that ran out of money pretty fast. _________________

I made an opponent rage quit for the first time tonight. He then left me a voice message where he called me Obama's grandmother and expressed the hope that Al-Queda would shoot me in the head. In fact, I got quite a few vocalizations of people being upset because they hadn't figured out how to teleport around Noob's shadows. _________________

Yeah, I always felt bad about fireball spamming in Street Fighter, but in MK almost everybody has some way to punish fireballs, so I have no qualms about putting a thousand shadows on the screen with Noob. _________________

I know you can, but it is much easier to do in MK. It is making me appreciate fireballs in Street Fighter more though. I imagine if I ever go back to 4, Cody will be throwing a lot more rocks. _________________

I hadn't really been playing any Mortal Kombat lately, but all the new stuff got me hype enough to come back, so I guess it is doing what it is supposed to. Skarlett is pretty fun. I certainly like her more than Mileena or Kitanna. I'm really looking forward to Rain though. I hope is still has all of his crazy reality warping and stuff. _________________

Kenshi looks really great. He's got a stand! I might just have to put some serious time in with him.
As for my fighter history, I grew up in the arcades and had a Saturn and a Dreamcast, so I had no end of fightmans to play around with. In high school, I was in a very serious Smash Brothers Melee group. After that, I didn't do too much until Street Fighter 4 came out and I had friends at home and at school that played it. I played that with them, but at home I started exploring one of the two main series I had never played before, King of Fighters (the other being Guilty Gear). _________________

I was really worried that they would remove his around the world roundhouse, but it looks like that worry was for naught. He's looking incredible.
Something interesting to note: the MK2 costumes for Noob and Smoke are the pre patch versions of the characters. Also, The 2p version of MK2 Noob uses Smoke as his Stand. It's too bad they didn't go all the way and replace the inky entrance and exit effects with smoke. _________________

It's what, 3 years late? I'm so happy though. I hope my X-box doesn't melt from how awesome this is. Guys, we got KOF 98, 2k2 and 13, Garou, MVC2, Third Strike and now VF5FS all on one system. These are truly amazing times we live in. Is there anything else we need. An XBLA port of KOF 11 maybe?
So this fall, we're all playing KOF 13 together and then next summer we'll be all about some Final Showdown, right? _________________
