Download the demo for "Alien on the Run". You run an alien through an obstacle course trying to solve how to hit all the checkpoints in the fastest order and reach the finish. _________________

It does look neat, yeah. Although it being realtime and first person, I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy it. My Sokomania 2 comment was a cheap jab, but I can say that I've played Cinemax's earlier effort Snakenoid on DSi and thought it was an exceptionally horrible Arkanoid. _________________ Drawing & writing, mostly. |

My 3DS has a hackable firmware, so I've done some research the past two days about making it region free. Turns out the hack that was released in January of this year was advised against because it would brick 3DSs. Let me explain...
The region free hack was a simple hex edit done on Gateway's launcher.dat file, the file responsible for activating the exploit and enabling Gateway's firmware, which would allow you to use their 3DS flash cartridge to play 3DS ROMs. The hex edit changed Gateway's firmware in that it disabled the use of the 3DS flash cartridge and allowed you to play any retail cartridge instead.
At the time, the last version of Gateway's firmware was 2.0b1. Soon after, they released version 2.0b2, which included code that would brick your 3DS if it detected the the launcher.dat file had been tampered with. Worse, it would brick your 3DS even if you didn't alter it if you used Gateway's Diagnostic Tool, which would on some rare occasions trigger the bricking code. Reportedly, this was to discourage the use of Gateway clones.
Later, Gateway released version 2.0 Omega, which removed the bricking code and added the ability to play any retail cartridge. However, now their firmware checks if their 3DS flash cartridge is inserted upon entering Gateway Mode. As far as I understand, it doesn't stop you from using their Gateway Classic Mode, which is what you have to use to play retail games, but you need to be able to use Gateway Mode to update your emuNAND, which is a copy of the 3DS's firmware that resides on your SD card. If you can't update it, you can't play retail games that require a higher firmware version. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

| There's an arenabrawl animegame on this called Gaist Crusher (just got a sequel this week too) seems like it's the only new thing Treasure has done since S&P2. It looks like Megaman via Saint Seiya. Does anyone know if it sucks or not? |

I don't know of the games quality, or the peripherals you are to attach to the 3DS to play it.
But it FLOPPED real hard. The sequel is a desperation maneuver. _________________

the original GC flopped, but it was part of a Capcom multimedia project-thing, so the sequel was already greenlit. it too (Gaist Crusher God) bombed hard, something like 3k sold copies last week. if I had to venture a guess, I'd say it's a victim of Yokai Watch. _________________

Randomly picked up Mario Golf: World Tour.
Played it for 3hrs straight last night, on accident.
Maybe the best online multiplayer on the 3DS so far.
Pretty fun. _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

honestly, assuming I'm reading the right numbers, I'm trying to figure out how Yokai Watch 2 outsold the original the week it came out
that's how you know you have the next big thing, when the sequel sells more. well, that or good marketing. _________________

I played the demo of the original when it came out knowing it was by Treasure and man, it kind of sucked a lot. I don't think they released a demo for the sequel but if they polished it up a lot I could see it being good. Sad to hear it bombed, though, because yeah it was the first thing Treasure released in a while :/ |

Oh yeah, Protect Me Knight 3DS impressions. The best SAT analogy I can give is:
Bangaioh : Bangaioh HD :: Protect Me Knight : Protect Me Knight 3DS
Blows the scale out a lot, not about clearing a linear series of levels so much as about providing a framework to make custom stages to play with your friends (it still has a very entertaining single player-oriented campaign though). It also adds a lot of obvious riffs on Gauntlet, including keys/doors, treasure chests, monster generators, etc. alongside persistent character development, material gathering to upgrade weapons/skills, and other stuff of that nature. It still feels as good to play as the original, though, which means it's the best Gauntlet clone ever, easy. I really hope it gets a release here. |

I know about the show (that'd be something I would file under marketing), but I guess a whole bunch of kids and parents went "fuck it" after seeing a sequel was announced and waited for that
hey, someone give me a US Smash demo code and I'll be your BFF (I was like, 30 coins away from platinum status) _________________

| I just bought Kokuga over Azure Striker Gunvolt was this right decision SB? (I was about $2 shy of being able to buy both with my remaining balance). Something tells me the latter game might be more likely to see a discount during CYBER MONDAY or whatever so I might be able to get it for a little cheaper in a month or two. Besides, I have just about filled up my SD card! |

Treasure :(
maybe if they made a Pokemon game, they would finally have a title that sold well.
apparently some serious going-ons are happening with decrypting (and perhaps even re-encrypting) 3DS games and pulling stuff out of them. Mainly it seems to mean that people are extracting models, textures and music from games that came out before firmware 7 (so not Smash). You need a 3DS with even earlier firmware (4.1~4.5) and either a DS or 3DS flashcart of certain kinds, and after that it's all weird magic that is still being refined.
This seems like it won't help any with region lock, but I guess this is a crucial step in more gray and black areas of interest....eventually. But if you can run a music player with vgmstream support/puginss (Winamp, Foobar, Audacious, Droidsound-E, etc), there are several dozen sets of streaming music available now.
has anyone ever see someone claim a single advantage that the original 3DS has over the XL? I know some people preferred the design of the original DS over the Lite. |

so nintendo sent me a DL code for Smash and Inafune and co. sent me a DL code for Mighty Gunvolt, so i whipped out my 3DS for the first time in a long time (it had sustained water damage a few months ago and the screen was all screwed up) simply to download the games to use at some later time.
lo and behold, after a few months of summer, my 3DS' screen had basically repaired itself/dried up (save for one little spot), so...i guess i have a 3DS again.
agreeing with Loki - this is the first Smash i've legit enjoyed since Melee. maybe it's just Mega Man, but the game feels and looks real good.
Mighty Gunvolt is cute but not extraordinary in any way.
but it DID make me download Azure Striker Gunvolt, which i'm enjoying quite a bit. feels like an Inticreates MM game, but with some different game mechanics in place that i think are interesting. definitely closer to the Zero series than ZX (which for reasons i could never put my finger on, always bored me).
not a huge fan of the translation job or the whole little sister motif going on, but it's not too revolting. |

I plan on getting Azure/Mighty Gunvolt once I finish playing the 3DS VC version of Mega Man V. Which, by the way, is living up to its hype! Its nice to play a Mega Man (not an X or ZX, etc.) that assumes you are well versed in how Mega Man works and designs the levels as such. Really nice Mega Man game. _________________

| yeah! i haven't played V since i had it on the GB, but it's definitely the best of the "Rockman World" series and also a really interesting Mega Man game, in general. i like the deviations. |

Smash feels really good, yeah. Much, much better than Brawl did.
I still don't like the physical act of playing (3D) action games on my 3DS, so I'll probably end up with a Wii U when it's out there. _________________

you should be cool people with more money than sense and buy both versions
as a consolation prize, you get the game's soundtrack, which will probably be ripped a day after you can get it anyway _________________
