Although we didn't get the Nekketsu remakes/RPG spin-off, the horse racing solitaire sim by Gamefreak, I can finally rest in peace now with my 3DS now that Outrun 3D are coming out to US now.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for Yokai Watch...
And as for this year, I think I'm set.
Fantasy Life will last me until the new year, combined with the new Pokemon, and if I get curious there will always be Persona Q.
Animal Crossing to fill in the gaps, Smash Bros on the side, and a ton of eShop and Virtual Console games I still have on my home screen to playthrough. _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

-Basically does exactly what it said it would do: 3DS games on latest firmware, online, with almost no hassle
-Does not allow for homebrew, DS games or region lock circumvention
-Only ten total 3DS games can ever be set for use with each card, due to the way it handles save data (apparently games aren't set until you boot them, and it will supposedly detect and prevent accidental duplicates or out-of-region registrations)
-$90
Sooooo....I suppose if there was a handful of 3DS games you wanted to "own" permanently which never came down in price, or that you knew you wanted the ability to backup saves on, you might somehow end up with a price-conscious purchase.
Of course, if they were to fix this limitation (maybe with a software update but far more likely with a hardware revision), or figured out some bizarre anti-region voodoo, this would warrant further consideration. |

Have we talked about Legend of Legacy?
| Quote: |
| It was also revealed that the game's staff, in addition to Furyu employees, would contain many staff who had previously worked on Square Enix video games, including illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi and designer Kyoji Koizumi of the Saga series, Masato Kato, writer of the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross games, and Masahi Hamuzu, composer of the Final Fantasy XIII games. |
This looks/sounds pretty rad guys |

I'm keeping an eye on LoL because of the talent involved, but the early screenshots and videos do not exactly offer much to get excited over. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

Like, the producer/director/whatever of the game describes it as (yet another) "nostalgic" throwback to 16-bit JRPGs, which is a niche that I think over the last 5-10 years has been pretty well catered to enough that another low-budget entry in that familiar style doesn't exactly have a great shot at standing out
Personally I'm more than ready for a nostalgic throwback to 32-bit RPGs, with stuff like wildly over-ambitious storylines, weird experimental game systems, prerendered backgrounds, etc. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

Yeah that's what this looks like to me. Also it's clearly supposed to be a new Saga game? I mean, granted, Minstrel Song set a pretty high bar, but they seem to be taking a lot of the good ideas from that game into this one + stuff from the DS remakes of 2 & 3
Also I read 4gamer and famitsu's coverage and couldn't find any quote about this being an homage to 16-bit RPGs. The producer emphasized that the game is about the joy of discovery and piecing together clues on how to proceed yourself, and that sounds really good? |

Homebrew (Channel) is a go....if you have a copy of Cubic Ninja.
If you're in Japan, you'll probably want to buy it off eShop soon, before it gets patched or pulled or something.
(that's the only region with a digital release)
(you should theoretically also be able to run it from some "backup" devices, but they say they haven't tested that)
http://gbatemp.net/threads/introducing-ninjhax-a-nintendo-3ds-homebrew-exploit.374233/
http://smealum.net/ninjhax/
It works on every firmware from 4.x to the current 9.x, but it can (and quite probably will) be patched.
Right now it's mainly just early emulators for Nintendo systems (and a simple Minecraft creative mode clone).
But this is the foundation on which pretty much all future homebrew will be built.
So this will do homebrew, but will not do piracy unless some other party adapts it for that explicit purpose.
It supposedly should be able to break region lock, but does not do that yet - whether that will be worked on next is unknown. |

what sound do slowpokes make? Just variants of their name? Slowpoke.
Supposedly people have had success running the exploit from various iterations of Gateway and clone devices, so purchasing the game doesn't seem to be a strict requirement.
I believe the method should work with a Sky3DS as well, so one of those with Cubic Ninja as one of the ten games would be cheaper, I suppose, then selling an organ for a copy of the game.
Speaking of which, people seem to have figured out a hack-y way to double the number of games you get per Sky3DS, and I think it might even allow you to change what games 11-20 are, but apparently the process of doing so has a real chance of doing damage to your device and/or 3DS.
If this can really truly break region lock, and I know for sure I want a New 3DS (although I don't know whether regular or large ughhhh), it would make sense to buy up an Australian PAL (or even Japanese) 3DS right now, wouldn't it?
Before Nintendo is farther along in figuring out ways to block these exploits.
But some part of me can't feel comfortable unless it's an American system release, which isn't until next year, at which point a fair number of things will probably be squashed - at the very least, the firmware meant to block this will be well in place.
(who am I kidding? I'm not going to buy one)
Hope that region solution comes out soon... |

I see now that local chain of game stores has changed the used price of Cubic Ninja from €15 to €40. Damn it. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Etrian Odyssey 2 is getting a 3DS remake, I guess everybody already knew that, but far more importantly, SPIKE CHUNSOFT IS DEVELOPING AN EO MYSTERY DUNGEON GAME FOR 3DS
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=938800
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujTUHNpxK-E
I dreamed of such a game years ago, although I was sure people would probably hate it.
This the party-centric, class-based roguelike I've been waiting for since....well, forever, really. |

| After giving up (perhaps prematurely) on the original Etrian Odyssey when it first came out, I find myself surprisingly compelled by the remakes. But it may just be that I love the character designs. |

From his twitter, he's indicating he'll be imminently submitting Gunman Clive 2 to Nintendo for final review.
I'm really looking forward to this sequel. I've been playing Gunman Clive a lot lately. _________________ Drawing & writing, mostly. |

I played Etrian Odyssey II right up until the third time my entire party was wiped like 5 levels deep and I lost all progress for the past hour of gameplay

Why did you go one hour without saving in the first place? You're asking for it.
And really now, this "i lost an hour worth of progress :(" problem exists in many games, so I think it's very unfair to blame it solely on Etrian Odyssey. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

It was more of a "save at top floor, have to go three or so levels deep, slog my way to the bottom, fight boss, die on way back up" deal. EO is a game that sucks up a lot of time without much reward, in my eyes.
I actually ended up trading it to a fellow SBer who happened to live right near my old work, so, it has a good home now. _________________ tumblr

Hope the PAL release will follow suit. We did get EO Untold unusually quick, so I'm excited.
edit: I just looked up the release dates and it actually took longer than EOIV to cross the seas. We still got it in the end, though... _________________

I wrote some impressions of Yumi's Odd Odyssey in the "What are you playing" thread on like page 86 or 87.
But I wanted to add in here that its 3D effect is extremely unsettling to me. The game for whatever reason likes to have a separate camera movement for the background, but the foreground is locked in frame with the character. Its like a paralax effect but with some non-sensical rotation, panning, or zooming. So when in 3D it can make a zolly-shot type effect that makes my brain spilt sideways.
Add that to the pile of eccentric decisions within the Umihara Kawase legacy. _________________

With firmware update 9.3, one of the three exploits that Ninjhax (Cubic Ninja exploit) depends on has been patched. So, until a work-around has been found, don't update your 3DS. Of course, this means that you won't be able to access the eShop...
This is bad news for people like me who want to be able to play import cartridges while retaining eShop access. It doesn't look there'll ever be a good solution at this point. The other option, if you were still on firmware version 4.5, was using a DS flashcard and run MT Card's firmware, but unless you have an MT Card you won't be able to launch your digitally purchased games. It's also unclear to me how those purchases are tied to your device when they're made using an emulated version of the firmware. _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!
