Really? It seemed pretty simple back in the late 90s. But I suppose being methodical isn't necessarily sane. |

Sniper, between this and the Spelunky comments you have been shown to hold some extremely strange opinions about the straightforwardness of game design
I guess that's okay |

Must have been a long sitting!
I don't normally tell people to "just look on gamefaqs lol" to get past confusing parts of games, but the extremely slow and cumbersome nature of navigating the water temple, coupled with the constant need to switch boots, makes doing it by yourself a hateful experience.
I guess it's the only real offender, though. Thinking back some more, the other dungeons are pretty simple to get around in and figure out (though certainly not in Master Quest.) |

Ocarina of Time really doesn't require a FAQ. |
How about Majora's Mask? I have very little patience for some reason when it comes to Zelda these days. However, a couple years ago I tried playing Adventure of Link for real and got pretty far on my own before getting stuck and needing to look up the next step.
But the 3D games... I don't know. After finishing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess I think I was just done with Zelda for a while. I might be ready to get back into it since I never finished OoT or MM but I'm still kind of ambivalent about them. _________________

| The 3DS version of OoT supposedly makes the Water Temple easier to deal with both in terms of navigation and because of the new inventory system. Not that I would know first hand because I didn't get that far before I quit. |

and now a bold vision of the future from Senran Kagura:
| Code: |
-Finally, there's also the option of running around with swimsuit only, which you can trigger with L+R at the very beginning of the stage. She'll strip her clothes off with a pop and she'll be in nothing but a swimsuit. When in this form, your attack increases dramatically, but your defense drops just as drastically. You cannot go into ninja form, but your attack is so high that it doesn't matter. You can gain access to endless attack strings. (Like Renbu from DW6) This would be the form for those looking for a challenge (and wanting to see your character in swimsuit 24/7)
-Now the fun thing about the systems is that it's essentially promoting the Yin/Yang style system the game has. (or in this case, Sadism and Masochism) Sticking to the normal shinobi style will raise the girl's Yang/Sadism which shows as she'll sound a lot more aggressive. While choosing to go the swimsuit route will raise her Yin/Masochism, so she'll sound a lot more submissive. For example, when you go into swimsuit mode, if she's more Yang, she'll just give a furious battle roar. However, were you to go into swimsuit mode when it's more Yin centric, she'll give out a moan. The girl's portrait will also reflect this during appropriate transformations. |
from these impressions (NSFW but no nudity/sex)
I wonder how the sales of this will ultimately stack up against the upcoming 3DS remake of Renegade, which probably won't win many fans at 4,410 yen if they don't tighten it up a bit. |

I've never tried Majora's Mask. I got OoT when it first came out, played through it 3 or 4 times in my youth. Every year or two I still get a "boy, Ocarina of Time sure was cool, I'd like to play that again" feeling, and I start another playthrough, but usually get bored halfway through the second dungeon and abandon the game.
The Adventure of Link is really it's own thing, sort of not even a Zelda game.
It was my first NES game. I had no idea what the hell was going on when I played it as a kid, but I played the shit out of it and got further than I ever have since figuring out how the combat and leveling mechanics work. It's a pretty great game, despite being very frustrating.
Man, I was so far in Adventure of Link when I was a child... I was at the dragon boss in the last palace before the final dungeon. I just could not beat that boss. One afternoon, my friend Pat and I tried to beat that boss, and we couldn't. We gave up. I asked Pat, "why are we supposed to hold down the reset button when we switch off the NES after playing this game?"
Pat replied, "I dunno. I never hold reset down, and it saves just fine."
So that afternoon, for the first time in my life, I didn't hold down reset when switching off The Adventure of Link. Next time I played the game, my save file was gone.
Fuck you, Pat. |

Yeah it's a pretty bizarre intuitive leap to try and catch flame in a bottle
Anyway the shadow temple is probably the easiest one in the game... What's so hard about it? It's laughably straightforward. The boss battle is awesome though. If I wasn't on iphone I'd make a "disembodied hand boss" thread in galaxy oddity... _________________

I've played the forest and water cave dungeons now. Single player. And I'm not impressed.
Link feels sluggish, even when the green speed upgrades are maxed.
The puzzles aren't very interesting. The bosses are a chore, and kind of stupid.
Other than piranhas roaming one particular body of water, and explosive spike balls patrolling narrow passages, I haven't seen any free roaming enemies. Most enemies seem to spawn when you trigger switches, open chests, or are standing in certain places. The spawns don't always make sense either. Those worms that are made of balls and erratically bounce off walls (from A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening) will spawn and go bounding away from you down a corridor, and you'll never see them again.
It's nice that they added single player. When playing alone you can switch between two Links in dungeons that use the 2-player puzzle variants. But it would have been great if they'd made a version of the campaign that could be carried out by a single Link (probably a lot of development time for a free game, though). Switching between Links to solve dull puzzles is an annoyance, and never as compelling a tag team puzzling experience as something like Catrap. They tend not to be puzzles anyway, more like: Have both Links stand on the same switch, or have one Link stand on a switch and then have the other Link stand on another switch. There is some convenient automation though. The second Link will automatically help lift big stones. Throw one Link over a chasm to reach the other side, switch to the thrown Link, and summon the first Link across the chasm with a button press (instead of extending a bridge, switching back to the first Link, and walking him over the bridge).
But the whole thing is about collecting rupees. You get accolades for collecting rupees. You'll unlock a dungeon for collecting 30,000 rupees. Black rupees make you drop rupees, allowing you to pick your rupees up again.
I reckon I'll have the last two main dungeons beat in less than two hours. So I'll carry on. But I'll wish I were playing Link's Awakening instead.
(This might be more enjoyable as multiplayer). |

Basically what you're doing is like running around a Halo CTF map by yourself, getting all the captures and wondering why it's so easy.
Rest assured with some bros Four Swords becomes one of the funniest games in existence. _________________

So I've seen similar points but my big block to buying a 3DS is that there are no real "proper" 3DS games yet.
There are a lot of ports or games that just have a version of their franchise chucked onto the system, but through the entire library I have yet to see a single truly 3DS title, sans possibly the Raving Rabbits game, which I haven't been able to try, but appears to be it's own game.
I would refuse to buy say Street Fighter or BlazBlue because I've already bought multiple incarcerations of each game, so I certainly wouldn't need a portable one. Since they are the same games that I can't play with my friends.
Also as with many people I find the 3D aspect to be forgettable. Even when I got the 3D to work for me, I didn't care, and I was playing Dead or Alive (which might be the best Dead or Alive game ever) but I didn't care if the jugs were 2D or 3D, so what's the point?
I think the system has some cool points to it, but until there's that one definitive title it's too easy to give this whole thing a pass, especially after the DSi. _________________ Steam: Godamn_Milkman |

I wonder if we'll ever get a sequel to Gollop's Ghost Recon game.
Keiji Inafune is making a pirate-themed action-RPG for the 3DS, only the characters are all animals/monsters. And the animals are themed after Sangokushi. Sadly, there's no real game details (or in-game screenshots/footage) yet.
Oh yeah, and a proper new Harvest Moon, apparently with a large amount of customization. |

I picked up Bit Trip Saga (had only played Beat on the Wii before) and Star Fox 64 (never played it!) since Amazon was running a buy one get one half off sale on them when I got my 3DS. I bought it used, and it turned out it was an ambassador system, which was a delightful surprise! I've mostly been using it as an emulation machine. Maybe I'll finally beat Zelda 2 without a Game Genie.
I guess one ambassador game will eventually be Super Mario World 2 for the GBA? I'm looking forward to that, since I never played that one. Not entirely sure why the ten GBA games haven't been rolled out yet.
I'm looking forward to Four Swords with my roommate who has a 3DS when he gets back from Hawaii. _________________

I actually don't think that, but I thought providing the counterargument with an equal amount of evidence would be an efficient way of saying "who fucking cares, play it however the fuck you want"

Oh well you sure taught us a lesson huh.
Either way is good but the console version, yeah Id play that hands down for the better music, sound effects and bigger snes graphics.
But thats pretty much the basic rational for choosing the console version of old games in the 90% case. Its almost not worth explaining. _________________ Mixtapes galore ~ VG MUSIC

Anyway! You should play Yoshi's Island however you want. And free + legitimate + anywhere you want seems like a good way to go!
What other games should be included in the set of 10 GBA games? They said one Metroid, right? LttP is pretty much out since four swords is already given to 3DS owners. Starfox might be interesting. Any guesses?
