Man, I hope we at least get an eShop only release of that!
Those battle sequences are perfect, and the music is just so classically great!

I forgot about being annoyed at that time that it wasn't available on the NA 3DS.
I could have bought it for a lot more 15 years ago I suppose, but here I am. _________________

I wish Mario Deluxe would get remade without that zoomed in screen thing necessitated by the Gameboy's resolution. I really like the new modes. _________________

Picked up Ultimate NES Remix.
Pretty fun. As being from the people who brought you Retro Game Challenge, this game is very similar. Just more first-person, and you care just challenging yourself in some great classic games with no CPU friend or King Arino taunting you...
Its reminds me of the feeling of having an old NES system now, and you got a bunch of games, and you are playing each one for like 30secs, and then ejecting and trying another game. That "Oh yeah, this game was great! Ok.. NEXT!"
Except no cartridge swapping here.
The presentation is slick but dry. A lot of games are open to begin with, and the addicting cycle of earning more stars to unlock more stages along with the retries on certain challenges that have you questioning your skills.
Cheap but good thrills here, and makes for a great break from the grind.
EDIT: Just looked up how to unlock Famicom Remix mode... http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/835611-ultimate-nes-remix/cheats
Oh my.
I've got a LONG ways to go...
This is gonna keep me busy and drive me insane for a while... _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

I am digging that. Is there a term or phrase for enjoying the aesthetics poorly reproduced art? Maybe thats the only way a game can form a patina.
I haven't directly compared it to the original but the sound is a bit different too, there squeeking of his shoes when you change direction is real nice. _________________

Original GB Tetris for the 3DS Virtual Console and Tetris Axis are being pulled/delisted for the 3DS eShop on the 31st.
I assume this is some agreement with UbiSoft to move Tetris Ultimate. _________________

Finished. Shin. Megami. Tensei. IV.
1 year and 52hrs later, I finally completed this game.
This was one of the most challenging games I have ever played.
Part of that was the fact I ended in the Neutral path, the hardest of the 3 endings to get, which required a completion of 18 specific Challenge Quests in order to actually fight the final boss Lucifer.
I didn't intended to get the Neutral ending, and I was dreading it at first. Ended up taking 8hrs to complete the 18 side-quests, but in doing so and grinding through, it took me through parts of the map I never been to before, events and bosses I never fought, new items and demons. Really opened up the game even more and made me appreciate it x100 in terms of the environment and world.
The ending was weird but satisfying. The last dungeon in Purgatory and Lucifer's Palace were freaking crazy.
This is one of the best (and biggest) games I can't recommend but only to the sadistic and masochistic hardcore gamer.
Even after 52hrs, which included only what was necessary to complete the path at hand as I am not one meander in games, there are still a ton of more quests and bosses left to fight. And thats not including DLC. And oddly enough, I'm tempted to go through those and 100℅ this game. Might take a break before that task though...
All in all, I hate this game, and love it at the very same time.
I have never invested so much into a video game since the golden Final Fantasy days.
The atmosphere, music, and art is immersive.
It's a game that sets its tone so well, that hunting/talking/capturing psychopathic demons in a post a apocalyptic Tokyo is just about as fun as it would seem. Dreadful, adventurous, full of doom and gloom.
I could have probably clocked over 100hrs, especially with all those extra Challenge Quests , demon hunting and DLC. I don't like playing a game more that what I absolutely have to, but this game has me by the throat. Taunting me to come back with New Game + or purchase some DLC packs and do some more.
Oh, and I forgot to mention I played through this game in Easy difficultly, and it was still bloody hard!
And really, the worst and most difficult part of this game was the overworld. About 25hrs in, I had to GameFaqs ride this thing on where to go and who to talk to next. The map was so confusing to navigate.
Oh and even up to the final boss, I still don't know if I understand the stats and and fighting system. I've seen other players up only the Magic stat and kick ass at the end. Which is why I just focused Magic/Strength and Luck for critical hit stats. I think it worked out, but there were definitely a ton of spells I still didn't obtain.
This is definitely my most biggest accomplishment in gaming this year, or maybe even decade!
For those that are curious, tread lightly.
So now that is over... and I'm riding that demon-hunting high, what shall I tackle next?
Should I dive immediately into Soul Hackers, if I really dug the cyberpunk/demon hunting and world of SMT IV?
Maybe change things up a bit and check out The Devil Survivor Overclocked?
Do I give Persona Q a go even though I have never played P3 and only a couple of hours of P4, and never bothered to touch Etrian Odyssey?
Or do I play either Persona 2 or 3, as I got those downloaded on the Vita but never touched...
Either way, I'll be chipping away at my 3DS/Vita backlog now since I have SMTIV off my shoulders. I feel like I can complete anything now, ahaha.
Might restart Crimson Shroud after what little I played of it years ago, and finally try to finish it!
Same with some Denpa Man... _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

agility and luck are mandatory, then you pump magic or dex (physical attacks only take dex into consideration i think, making str a redundant stat) depending on which type of character you want; most people go mag because it makes the first & unfortunately hardest bit of the game go a little more smoothly, later transitionomg the main character into a supporting role as magic kinda sucks end/postgame... really the main thing to remember with smt combat is buffs/debuffs are very very important and you can't win without them!
as for which to play next.. soul hackers is rough and very 90s! persona q is literally an easier etrian odyssey in a persona skin & assumes you're an enormous fan of persona 3/4
so uh
nocturne i reckon! or have a go at the smt4 dlc if you aren't completely burned out on the game |

I thought Dex impacted your accuracy while Str impacted your phys attack damage?
Or maybe it's that Str determines your melee damage while Dex determines your gun damage? I don't remember, it varies by game _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

in 4 agi is accuracy/evasion
if you really want to break smt4 over your knee, downfuse a good physical attack + pleromas onto something low level, buy the stat enhancing apps and level it to 99
that's some 'kill the final dlc boss in one hit' broken
(breaking these things is a big part of the appeal for me, these days) |

Changed my thoughts on Ultimate NES Remix.
Realized that this IS an empty Retro Game Challange/Game Center CX.
There is no one to interact with, no fake game magazines to look at, no jokes or comments to react to.
I guess on the Wii-U version you have the Mii-verse to converse with. Here on the 3DS, its just yourself and rankings.
After some more challenges, I just finally have come to the conclusion that I'd rather just actually play these classic games, as there is plenty of reasoning to play them on their own right.
So decided to start over on Crimson Shroud, since the last time I played it was over a year ago. Only lost 2hrs. Wanted to get aquatinted with the story and characters again.
Not being distracted by any other game, just focusing on this one right now and I finally getting into it.
Just reached Chapter 2 again. The battles require a lot of strategy with the magic/skill moves.
The DnD boardgame infused aesthetic, though a bit dry and stiff, is cool, and the music is gorgeous.
Its on sale for $2.99 on the eShop right now. Can't go wrong! _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

I always love posting my Black Samurai:
I haven't even finished the game! I defeated Beezlebub and then entered Purgatory and thought, "eh, I'm good for now." Maybe I'll finish it this year. _________________

Damn, I'm super envy of your Black Samurai.
I had to give up on the Beezlebub. My stats just couldn't do it in the later end of the battle.
You should totally finish it PersonaMobile! That last dungeon/Purgatory is pretty great. And I'm sure you will plow through every mini-boss and Lucifer himself in a flash! _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |

black frost one shot everything all day
beelzebub and the fiends have a gimmick where if you completely block them out of hitting you with their regular moveset they just spam megidolaon until you die
man i didn't like smt4 half as much as nocturne
but it still rules |

Agreed, it was an awesome ride. If it was fully 3d like Nocturne, I think I would rate it almost right next to Nocturne.
Also, the "you blocked my skills, I'm gonna spam Megidolaon" AI is in every extra boss fight's AI post-Nocturne, I think. I know for sure all the Persona3+ bosses do it, and Demifiend as a secret boss in DDS1 definitely spams his strongest skill if you void all his skills. _________________

I am thinking I will probably spring for a New 3DS on account of its new features and Xenoblade being enticing, and also the fact that I've been thinking of upgrading to a 3DS XL for the larger screen size and resolution anyway (though I'm worried about no longer being able to fit it in my coat pocket)
Though if Nintendo then announces a real 3DS successor next year or something I may end up feeling awfully silly cuz right now Xenoblade is the only upcoming game on the system I really want to play anyway _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

I'm definitely looking forward to the new Fire Emblem!
And I hope Nintendo brings over that new Rhythm Tengoku to NA!
Looks like its a "Best Of" compilation, with some new games. Its appearance from the Nintendo Direct JP was pretty great with Iwata mimicking the Karate game.
And even though I never played a Shiren The Wanderer game (or again, Etrian Odyssey), that new Etrian Mystery Dungeon looks pretty good! _________________ http://www.iamthefourth.com/ |
