I was running to go fight the Capra Demon and accidentally stabbed the woman who sells... purple moss, I think? I'm not too fucked if she doesn't talk to me anymore, am I?
Kinda loving my halberd. _________________

How is the Moonlight Butterfly giving me more problems than the Capra Demon.
I really need better magic defense, I guess. My shield doesn't do shit and while I can dodge those big homing bolts, the shotgun lasers it fires are just destroying me.
Fuck it, gonna go get Soul Arrow from the sorcerer. _________________

I find that the needle shot attacks from the moonlight butterfly tend to hit more often if you are locked on to it for some reason. They are easier to dodge if you disengage for a moment. _________________

I only got cursed once, but I've heard that curses can multiply so that you then have half of half of your HP and so on... Is that really true!? That's a potential game ender right there. _________________ I wish I could talk in technicolour |

The only blacksmith I've run into at this point is Andrei at the Undead Parish. There is a long pathway across from the side entrance to the church. This leads to a building that goes down to a bonfire, him, and a couple of pathways. _________________ I wish I could talk in technicolour |

Ceaseless Discharge: Deceased.
Was hoping for some kind of path back up to familiar territory, but it looks like I have two new paths continuing downward into even more hellish areas.
Done until I'm back from work tonight, but I'm tempted to make the long journey back up and give New Londo another chance, or maybe check out Sen's Castle... _________________

Actually, there is a path with a big group of axe-wielding minotaurs I might try before retreating.
It's the lower path lined with Capra Demons that chills me. _________________

There's also a smith a short ways inside the area below the Firelink bonfire. Take the elevator down, and when you reach the area with all the red undead dudes just chillin', head right-ish until you find some stairs descending into oblivion. Just before the stairs cut off, look left and you'll see a dude in a cell, who will smith things for you.
I am currently cursed, so I guess I might as well go fight some ghosts. _________________

Apparently this was true until a recent patch. Seems From decided that was a wee bit too malicious. _________________

Ah, I forgot about that Blacksmith, sorry :/
About the curses, it's good to know that From still thinks about the fairness of these things. I've learnt that for the sewers, it's a good idea to stock up on fire bombs so those bug-eyes can't even get close. _________________ I wish I could talk in technicolour |

Transient curses wear off after a while and also don't half your HP. |

Pfffffft, just gotta get good enough to not get hit on your way to wherever you need to go to uncurse!
I dunno about the halberd. I haven't used it because I have the drake sword, but until I cheated by getting that it was going to be my go to weapon for a while--but its obviously way different from Demon's. it just seems worse, even if the animations and the weight and all that is pretty cool. |

Lookin like this right now. Have yet to find anything better than my black knight sword that I got in the very beginning of the game, basically. Gunna get a big boss soul hammer and see how that does. Cleared out Andor Londo a minute ago, and upon my return to the firelink I JUST NOW finally discovered the catacombs D: Probably should have done that before Sen's.
Uhh hey Remote... how did you fight ceaseless discharge? When I ventured down to it he just melted me and was never in a position to be hit. Do you HAVE to do ranged? Or also maybe use a shield or something? |

It is worse. Halberd/Mirdan was easily and obviously the best weapon in Demon's. It's more balanced now. I still use it and longsword, between those two I have almost all situations covered. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

| Jesus christ, the forest is ridiculous if you're not in hollow form. I've been invaded by like 5 people over the past 5 minutes, two of them at the same time, and they were all using something that made it so I couldn't lock on to them. Thank god I have a giant sword and the best shield in the game!! |

no way, the best move set in Demon's is the meat cleaver/whatever else uses the meat cleaver set, or the dragon bone smasher/greatsword set. you can't be knocked out of the animation for either and they both break everything. PVP is different, I guess, but in that case it's pretty much katanas.
halberd is pretty nice though. If I ever start a new character in Demon's it'd probably be a mirdan faith build. |

Yeah, that's the true neutral faction. Basically, it's the PvP for Pussies faction.
I'm pretty disillusioned by the PvP prospects right now, basically I accidentally locked myself out of all PvP factions so I'd have to restart my character or go to NG+.
Overall from Anor Londo on I'm really thinking this game isn't quite what Demon's Souls was. _________________ I'm on Steam! ----- I'm on Youtube!

I thought that was a pretty neat touch.
This game gets so much right.
Makes me wonder about FromSoft's blunders, kinda. Should start a Ninja Blade thread or something.
Or we could just talk about Otogi, which was fucking great and nobody seems to remember those games for some terrible reason.
From needs to bring back Otogi! >:( _________________

Found myself exploring Darkroot Gardens. It surprised me that there was seemingly so little to do there! Was happy to pick up my first ring. A +40 poise seems as if it's going to come quite in handy. I'm pretty sure it helped me take out that tall knight on the tower near the Undead Parish. Moonlight Butterfly went down pretty easy, maybe being the first real Demon's/Dark Souls boss I knocked out by my fourth try.
I guess there'll be more to do in the Gardens later. Unless I just missed out on how to get into that door locked by "some contraption." But I looked pretty thoroughly, so I'm expecting something will open up there later. .
Felt pretty dumb coming back with 4000 souls and dropping off a cliff. And then dropping off another cliff fighting a really basic enemy before I could reclaim them. ;_; _________________

I angered the merchant in the tunnel connecting Fireflink and Undead Burg (by stabbing her on accident). Is there any way to apologize to her? _________________

one exposed-rib-cage dragon, disposed
i guess i'm headed to Blighttown now! can't say i'm looking forward to it though, since most reports peg it as Valley of Defilement 2.0
syncophant: i'm pretty sure the "contraption" door is locked by the seal you can buy off the blacksmith in the Undead Parish. i haven't personally tried it though, the soul cost was a little too steep for me. the stone giants a little further past that area are a good way to earn souls if you wanna try it, they're really slow. also, Oswald (the guy in the Parish belltower) can help re: the angry merchant _________________

Spears are pretty good.
I'm finding myself dumping a lot of points into Str/Dex despite being a Pyromancer because the Dark Knight sword scales up ridiculously well when you forge it and I kinda wanna use it forever now.
I may regret this later. My build is spread pretty thin.
Also maybe it's just me but the rate at which people are dropping summon sigils seems to be increasing. I had a companion following me for pretty much my entire playing time tonight; went through like 4 of them, took out a bunch of bosses. One was ridiculously overpowered, but the rest seemed to be struggling a bit. They were still very helpful, though! Me and some random stranger perched on the wall firing magic missile soul missile at the Moonlight Butterfly only to simultaneously roll out of the way as a giant barrage of moth dust flew at us was a pretty cool thing.
Also it's been mentioned already but jeez, this really is just Berserk: The Unofficial Game, isn't it? The setting is pretty spot on. _________________

I prematurely invested a lot into my winged spear to find out that the partisan is better suited to my character, but then I find a scythe in the fortress, best weapon ever, upgrade upgrade upgrade all the stones I have, then minutes later a mimic chest drops an electric spear that kills the local warriors in twice as few hits as the previous weapon, and being a spear instead of a halberd, has the benefit of allowing pokes with the shield raised.
And now I'm stuck in Anor Londo where this shiny new toy is absolutely inadequate against the normal enemies.
I have a stupid endurance/dex build, being able to roll in a Bibendum armor is pretty useless when so many things can still kill you in 2 hits.
I guess that I might have been able to leave if my fire keeper wasn't killed. Seems they means the mute lady, and that another played killed her? Had a mysterious message in a pretty random location about a "disaster" (forgot the rest) presented like an invasion message a bit earlier... Also found an item to exert revenge against the assassin, but I found no area where I can actually use that item.
Thankfully I get summoned often there, I'll eventually be able to learn the best route to the next boss/bonfire with lower stakes—if I get to find people who understand selective aggro instead of insisting to die sandwiched by one of the first two groups of enemies.
How could they have survived up to this point and still think it's reasonable to charge a group like a fool, then arrive in the enemies' stabbing range with no stamina?
Starting to think it was dumb to want to play the hard way without outside info.
(I have not read anything ITT yet since ~6 months ago and won't until I beat it, so don't bother to answer my questions, just sharing my confusion, I bet I said a lot of stupid things out of ignorance) _________________ Twitter: @youpi |

It's way easier than you're imagining, I'm sure. I only saw how easy it was when I realized what the phantoms I'd summoned were doing.
Basically, uh, just watch out for his big tentacle-arm-things when he slams them down at you, and take advantage... _________________

Did anyone else find the secret passage from Blight Town to The Great Hollow? You have to attack TWO walls that disappear once hit. I thought myself pretty clever, especially when it came to breaking the second wall (there was a chest after the first reveal, but I had to take another slash, just to make sure!) I followed this down for a long time before I got cursed and high-tailed it back. It seems to end with a bunch of mushroom people at the bottom...I wonder what's down there. I'll make it back eventually. _________________ I wish I could talk in technicolour |

Ha, me too. I'm a pyromancer with 16STR/13DEX/14INT, it's ridiculous. Pyros don't seem to have much of a choice but to learn normal weapon skills on the side. Of course you start out clutching a damn AXE so this might well be intentional. I suppose you could buy Soul Arrow early and just lean on that but then why go pyro instead of mage?
Man the crescent falchion was pretty broken for letting you bypass the need to invest in anything but INT. I miss it like I would one of my limbs.
edit: there is some kind of assassin convention going on in the lower burg, shit's downright unreasonable. Dogs, open fires and carts all over the place too, it's like a 1-3 greatest hits medley (of pain). |
