Because it seems nerds and by extension game devs, even at their most "passionate", are incapable of unpacking or analysing and therefore reproducing or honouring the things they like. _________________

| Man you guys, the graphics in this game are turning out surprisingly refined, and finely detailed. |

Whoaaaa... the character creation does NOT look better than demon's souls. Looks like the black knight or w/e and the whatever of astora or something aren't starting classes, which really doesn't surprise me as they seemed like "builds" more than starting classes.
I'm curious what the deprived is. Perhaps it has some special advantage if you can tolerate being a naked worthless shithead for a while? Or maybe it's just a class for when you want that extra challenge of complete deprivation. |

The full class image, which I'm guessing is from the book, reminds me of FFT. I expected to see oracles and geomancers too.
Character creation itself looks fine, hopefully this time they have better ways of making you look something other than an ugliness elemental. |

| Whoops nevermind I'm an idiot, the deprived is clearly the barbarian of dark souls, as the illustration mentions them being armed with a club. |

hormones slider god could i possibly love this game more
(...though, come to think of it, didn't Demon's Souls do something similar with the "masculine/feminine" face attribute?) |

Yep, it did. I look forward to seeing what the results look like in this newer version of the character creation. _________________

Yeah, I mean from what I can tell it's basically the same, which in my opinion isn't great. The worst thing they could do to it is FIX IT... and by that I mean, the best thing about d souls character customization was the way you could break sliders by pulling one way on one and then the other way on another related one until it went out of the bounds of what was normally allowed. |

Someone managed to actually play the game and is giving some information out about it.

Also, sadly, I didn't find the Gryphon. Hell, I didn't find ANYTHING. The game is like a living maze, it makes me uncomfortable to play almost, there are dozens of paths through every area and you never know if you're...hmm... trying to convey a concept here, but you never know if you're strong enough to push through, or if you should try pushing somewhere else, or if pushing is deliberately impossible, pushing meaning getting through the area alive, barely.
To give you a quick statistic, with the help of the Namco community manager assisting me and taking great pleasure in finally being able to show me all the things I've been guessing about this week, we identified 8 different paths in different directions from the first campfire outside of the tutorial. 2 or 3 led towards the Undead Burg and then on to the E3 demo area, the others...well... underground ghost-infested lakes, poisonous crystal caverns... and most of it difficult enough to make me want to turn back and try somewhere else. The revamped E3 demo area is insane, I gave up and went back to the start, to give you an idea. |
Harder still, and now the entire world is a maze.
Awesome. |

Looks like the 360 version is going to be a pretty severe downgrade, because they were insistent about squeezing it all on one disc. All audio's gonna be downsampled. At least I'll get to play it.
Wish they had just gone multi-disc, like with FFXIII/RAGE/LA Noire. |

| Yeah, I just thought of that. You could assign a third of the map to each of three discs, but the old "change discs every time before walking through this door" routine wouldn't fly by modern quality standards. |

I doubt it will be SEVERE. I mean, yeah you won't get lossless audio, but it will still sound as good as any other game. Lossless audio, while awesome, is only a thing if you have a hometheater to back it urp. |

They implied that all textures will be compressed as well, and it'll lose some effects. Usual "porting away from main platform" stuff.
What I'm more concerned about is the likely scarcity of online players on the 360 version. I'm quite certain that all the old Demon's Souls fans will stay on the PS3, so the 360 will have to completely rely on new blood like myself. Since it's the inferior version, it's only going to be bought by those who don't own both consoles. There won't be any Japanese players. And I'd imagine a good portion of the userbase will jump ship once Skyrim drops.

texture compression has to happen anyway in the graphics pipeline, especially when you are working with a console's small memory footprint. Its not like the PS3 is pushing around uncompressed textures in games. I can't imagine the compression specifically, will really be noticeable unless you start comparing like screenshots. More to worry about will be the overall quality of effects, due to port differences. But, this has been a multi-platform game from very early in development. I'm pretty sure the 360 port will be solid.
I have no idea if there is any buzz in the 360 world over Dark Souls. I imagine it will do fairly well, if only from curiosity about a PS3 exclusive that made a bunch of noise. |

From what I understand, the game started development as a PS3 exclusive (when it was called Dark Race), until Bamco told them they needed to slap together a 360 version for Western markets. I would imagine less effort's gone into it because it won't be released in all regions.
There's been very little hype about the 360 version. Most of its message board chatter has been from DS players. It will probably sell substantially worse.

| That's sarcasm, right? Because of course I'll still greatly enjoy it! I'll just have to live with slightly worse visuals, muddier sound and fewer players. Much preferable than if it stayed exclusive. |

I was and I wasn't, I guess. I'm assuming the port will be solid, aside from a few slight drawbacks, and I sincerely hope the 360 version's player base will thrive as well. _________________
