It goes without saying that this soundtrack has spoilers of sorts in the song names that vaguely detail what kinds of things you might be fighting.

I read somewhere that this soundtrack is actually by someone different this time, someone we all know. Motoi Sakuraba! Ack! It totally doesn't sound like anything they've done before, and it is impressive how much it stays consistent with the tones and textures of Demon's Souls. The ending song even has some vocals by the girl who sang all over the Nier soundtrack, god bless her for continuing to find work.

Uh... That's not Capcom. Atlus is publishing it and it's made by some French developer named Kylotonn apparently.

It's interesting looking and definitely seems to have a lot of its content inspired by Demon's Souls.

That snippet where some guy at the blamdai E3 booth said Dark Souls would be 'heavily compressed' on 360 was bullshit though, the full Dark Souls PS3 ISO is all of 7.6 GB. Easily under the 360's 9GB DVD-DL limit.

I mean unless there's some direct screenshot/video comparison I'm missing showing the 360 version to be a dog. Armored Core 4/4A suggest it'll run slightly faster, if anything.

edit: that 7.6 GB actually includes digitized versions of the LE's bonus crap, there's even less data than that on the disc.

Hm, can X360 and PS3-people play together? If so, that'd be a treat since I currently can't tell which version friends will get → thus makes it hard to decide as well.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony would ever allow their customers to play with people using their competitor's system, so no.

Okay those are legit reasons! It's just I was deciding which to get myself and the top two results were that compression bullshit.

Put my pre-order in today, which marks the second time in my life I've pre-ordered a thing (the first was Perfect Dark)!

no one ever has the conviction to give something a perfect score because some loser will point out why the game isn't absolutely flawless in every possible aspect, and IGN/Metacritic/whatever are trying to be the fucking Consumer Reports of gaming

I'd actually be tempted to pick it up at midnight if any of the stores in Portland were doing that. The one I've got my preorder at isn't doing it, anyway, and I'm not gonna bother calling other stores just to see if they are... I will probably run out to get it and play it for pretty much all of Tuesday like the unemployed jackass that I am, though.

Man I don't want to go to a midnight launch event for this and find out all the suave people I played Demon's Souls with are giant Lucky Star fans/brogamers/Yathzee/14 year olds or all of the above.

Fortunately I played with AzNs so I won't have this problem B)

However, I will be getting a glimpse of the people I'm ABOUT to be playing with... and I can guarantee you I won't like what I see.

Yeah, that anecdote ("a 9.") gets funnier every time I think about it. I'm not an overtly mean person IN person, but I'm afraid if some dude actually asked/answered that to me with conviction, I would probably guffaw in their direction. Reminds me of the time I went into a Gamestop to get something (probably a PS3 or 360 controller), and the guy was like, "DO YOU WANNA PRE-ORDER MARIO GALAXY 2". I concentrated so hard on not laughing at him that I was visibly shaking by the end of the transaction.

Which is why I pre-ordered at Best Buy this time! Not that I'm a fan of the store, but they sure didn't ask if I wanted to pre-order Skyward Sword too.

Guys one day.

you made a good choice, customer, for choosing a game upon which acclaimed reviewing site IGN has bestowed in all it’s mercy a 9 out of 10.

Man it's always so awkward doing transactions in gamestop and then getting harassed about preordering like cod 15 or something and eventually having to explain that you don't like games like that - a concept totally lost on the gamestop employee.

I'm not sure where all of you have gotten the impression that Dark Souls isn't "big" or something... like it's still your "cool underground game". Sure, it still plays like that - which is awesome - but come on it was like a huge success at E3 and is pretty wildly anticipated. I mean, Demon's Souls wasn't really heard of at the time of it's release and it got relatively huge by it's own merit. The game stirred up a lot of controversy (because it's apparently really hard or something aka no one has ever played real videogame before) and most "gamers" got a chance to play it or had come to a point in there life where they had to confront whether or not they wanted to or could play it - but everybody heard about it and everybody is aware of it's reputation. Dark Souls had a commercial on T.V. for fucks sake - and really the only requirement to being a triple A game is to be marketed like one. I just don't understand why all of you keep getting surprised when it's deemed big enough for a midnight release etc. and acting like it's some unheard of indie game. I understand the appeal of that thinking, but we should probably all just be really thankful that a game of this high caliber and respectability is getting this much recognition. Although it IS annoying that it's fame is for it "being really hard" and having to hear about that shit constantly whenever "normals" talk about it.

I'm not sure where you're getting the impression we're getting this impression.

Seriously, I just read the entire page, and I'm not seeing it. The closest is noting that it's getting a midnight release, which doesn't strike me as surprise or whatever.

Either way, it's probably for the best that some actual quality games are getting this sort of attention from GameCorp Gaming Corporation, Incorporated.

This was super awful at E3. I suppose there's time to turn it around, but what I played felt like a game with a lot of neat ideas that they're unable to make work together well at all. Probably the worst thing at E3.

at least the gamestop people recommending preorders are just doing their jobs.

if the guy had said something like "the reviews on that have been really good, i'm looking forward to it," or if he had done the "media store clerk gives unsolicited appraisal of purchase" thing with his own opinion that would've been fine. the total reverence with which he regarded an ign review made me feel like i was in another dimension or something.

I mean - sure they're doing their job... but they pretty frequently are genuinely terrible and don't seem to understand when people (me, just me) don't like the games they're recommending. I dunno that may just be my experience with MY gamestop... I went to one gamestop where the employees were pretty cool and were knowledgeable about good videogames and weren't morons and that was cool.

It's just really weird to see a FROM SOFTWARE game getting the blockbuster treatment, 's all. I mean I look at my wall of PS2 Armored Core games and there's a different publisher's logo on each and every one. There are gaps where the games never got published in English at all. We've got a hundred page thread right here where DS goes from this sweet JP exclusive thing to Atlus picking it up stateside and not bothering to release it in Europe to finally Namco catching on to the game's popularity and shipping it here to Europe some six months later.

When was the last time an independent niche developer blew up like this on the strength of a single game?

Yeah, that's the thing. It's just so hilarious to me, I mean. I don't know -precisely- how the 'push the pre-orders' thing works, but you'd think (and I wish) the company would allow at least some interpretive license to decide WHAT to push. "PS3 controller, huh? Did you snag a copy of Uncharted 3 yet? I hear you can get multiplayer access all week off a Subway promotion. Wanna pre-order it?"

Instead, whether it's because the company says Push Product X or because the guy at the counter is stupid/doesn't care, it's "you are buying a PS3 product would you like to pre-order this Wii product." The reason behind it doesn't really matter, for some reason I just find it laugh-out-loud funny.

And I was agreeing with it. I added a bolded word to make it more overt. No need to get defensive! It gives us that little glimmer of hope that maybe game developers won't so easily dismiss 'be creative' as an unprofitable business plan anymore.

I guess I'm lucky that the guy at Gamestop said "good call" and nothing more when I preordered Dark Souls.

No push to preorder MW3 instead, or anything like that.

Even if he had, though, I'd have just smiled a little and said no, thanks.

A whole bunch of rags are following that score trend too, from Eurogamer to Edge.

Will be interesting to see if this has a genuine impact upon its sales.

Wait, is preordering from retailers cheaper than doing so online now?
