| Counting down the minutes until I head up to gamestop to grab my PS3 copy... nervous as shit to have to be around people. Don't want to go early and feel extra awkward or anything. |

I'm actually hoping armor is, you know, substantial. I read something in a little review snippet about how this guy spent a little too much time lingering in "a demon's abode" or something and noticed a giant black tumor suddenly emerging from his skull, preventing him from equipping a helmet.
That kind of shit is fucking awesome and would ideally emphasize the importance of equipment, I think... _________________

We might want to think about having dual spoiler/non-spoiler threads.
Or maybe just a "shitty pictures of your character that you took with a phone" thread. |

Well, I think as long as people are considerate with spoiler tags for a little while this thread should be enough. _________________

I can't find it now but someone got the game early and was doing a "longplay" and it wound up being cut down to just a video of them dying and screaming "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK" every time. It was like 20 minutes long and I couldn't stop laughing.
The Rat in the Sewer miniboss reaction was the best thing I've seen all year. _________________

well that and i don't really know how one would safely talk about anything in this game without potentially infringing upon at least one hypothetical person's experience. probably should just proceed with caution if you're concerned enough

WISH I COULD ROLL OUT OF THE WAY OF THINGS.
So that doesn't sound like I can't play the game, there is often not enough room/the enemy is magically blocking my ability on both sides.
Definitely feels like the graphics took a hit for the sake of the 360. _________________ My Hawt Blog Vita Games

Edit: Oh great, we got Curated. I really think this feature is stupid bullshit. Just because conversation didn't go the way remote wanted, half a page gets deleted and posts left make little to no sense. Really?
Um, it's a silly talking point, because it doesn't matter.
It isn't as if From is going to say "Oh, people aren't discussing our game in enough detail, so we shouldn't make it!" They (and most definitely their publishers) are much more likely to say "hey, our game sold well! So we should keep making it!"
Videogames on a corporate level (yes, even ones from From) are a business, and the economics are the only reason they get made.
Now, if people on other sites are having discussions you don't like, fine! Don't visit them! But there is literally not a single good reason to talk about those people here. As long as they bought the game, the only thing they could do that would possibly affect you is now done. If they don't "get it" on whatever "deep" level you do, who cares? Why should they care? Explain this to me, because from where I stand, you come off as worrying a whole lot about the opinions of people who don't matter. |

Booji, you're actually totally misinterpreting what TXTSWORD is saying.
He knows and understands the basic concept that money is good for any corporation, and that's not what he's saying at all. Maybe it isn't a good talking point, that isn't up for me to determine.
It is like, for me, Outrun 2006 C2C is probably my all time favourite game-y game. Now, if it was only known for, say, the transitions from course to course, even if it sold SPECTACULARLY I'd be a bit upset (though glad it is selling), because there is so much more than screen transitions.
And, I'm aware that screen transitions are a bit different than a general thing like "HARD", but what he is saying is that if the game goes down in history as "That hard game that sold a bit", he's worried it won't mean anything in the end; I think he believes that Demon's Souls/Dark Souls should mean something, and deserves to effect the creative landscape profoundly, but it won't, because the majority of dialogue about the game involves "HARD".
I don't know if this is true, I've not played it (but I'm really excited to play it when I get my PS3! (Actually, a question: is Dark Souls a sequel or whatever, so do I need to play Demon's Souls to enjoy it?), and Hell, I don't really know anything ever, but still, I think you guys are on two different wavelengths and maybe you should both adjust your dials and tune into the same station. _________________

But why does that matter? How does that affect your enjoyment of the game, or the game's chances of being followed up, or anything? At very most, it might affect how the next game is focused a bit, but if the thing that people like (in Demon's Souls, people liked the difficulty) is something you like, then that means a feature you like is going to be continued. Really, TXTSWORD's only merit to the argument would be if he genuinely felt Demon's Souls was too difficult (which as far as I know he did not think), or if he was worried that the new one is not going to be as difficult (though From has said it is even harder) because From didn't want people complaining about it. But since neither of those is the case, why does the comments of Kotaku people who bought the game matter?
They don't, at all, aside from that he wants to be upset that people aren't enjoying something the same way he does, which is an amazingly silly thing to be upset about. |

I never said they were ruining my enjoyment of the game, you did. I never said half the shit you're accusing me of and you keep this going despite my never trying to enter a raw argument like this. I brought up a talking point, which you don't feel is valid. Fine, you're free to state that opinion and give your perspective. But why act like an asshole and call me a fucking idiot and project a bunch of attitudes that I don't even have all over everything I've said? Allen's understanding of my posts is pretty spot on, but you refuse to understand anything but your own warped perception of events.
You're just busting my balls over nothing, and I really don't appreciate it. I've been a little too busy for foruming and this is the shit I come back to? It's not fucking worth it. |

I've explained it if you will fucking listen I will explain it again.
>People here are excited about a Good Game (dark souls) being successful.
>The implication is that the public is appreciating what is "good" in a Good Game, and that developers might take note and make other Good Games as a result. (Not From - other devs)
>In actuality, what is being noticed about the game is seemingly ONLY the difficulty, and thus the important parts are being ignored.
>I am questioning if there is really any hope that the good qualities will have an impact on other gaming.
THINGS I DIDN'T SAY:
>I hate jocks and am at war with them for playing my videogame.
>These other people are ruining my experience.
>I don't want From or Dark Souls to be a success.
>Anything that even implied I don't understand capitalism or marketing. |

Well, clearly you have no understanding of how little people have noticed "What makes good games work" in the past, and are even dumber than I thought. Also, this is the first time you have brought up other developers at all. but nice job claiming that is what you've said all along.
If you feel like that though, feel free to share what you think they should be learning instead of screaming your head off about OMFG THOSE DUDES IS DOING IT WRONG!
Also, you did plenty of implications as to them ruining your little experience of something or other, and your use of "normals" indeed reeked of, as I said, the kind of us versus them/ jocks versus nerds bullshit that is entirely counterproductive and silly and useless in discussing a game.
Actually, don't bother, welcome to the ignore list. |

If possible, let's keep a running tally of what I like to call "No" moments.
You know, those times in this game specifically where you come to a new area, push into it just a little bit, see what populates it, and decide that now is not the time to be going into this area and turn back around.
The semi-open world Zelda-1-like structure of the game makes this possible. You know you're going to have to come back to this place eventually, but very quickly you begin exercising your judgement as to whether it's really a good idea to be pushing through a particular area quite yet.
My favorite one of these, personally, is encountering the Hydra for the first time, when you see it through the mist and it rapidly/alarmingly dawns on you what you're staring at. That was one of the bigger "What the fuck is that? Something's moving up th- OH JESUS CHRIST YEAH FUCK THAT TURNING AROUND NOW" moments I've ever had. Better than any survival horror game.
I'll add more later. _________________

Man. I've still got Ico and SotC to get through. I'm still playing New Vegas.
I may just Stop Everything to play Dark Souls.
We'll see. I'll be on tonight either way.
Debating being helpful online or being a complete dickhead. I dunno. Would you guys prefer to have me help you win boss fights, or murder you and steal your humanity so I can waste it on making my bonfires bigger? _________________

This is actually assuming I'll be able to kill anyone. I've got an unfair amount of Dark Souls practice, but a lot of you seem to have a lot more Demon's Souls practice than I have Dark Souls practice, and I think the two are kinda interchangeable when it comes to PvP, so I might be screwed. _________________

Yeah, actually, others were PMing me and asking me to trim it down as well. I guess you didn't see the comments TXTSWORD made later in the evening (and if you had, you'd probably want nothing to do with this). I basically just cut a bunch of his comments out and, well, sorry — some of yours went along with them. I don't just curate threads when the conversation don't "go the way I want." So wonderful that you saw fit to continue this stupid argument, anyhow.

Getting this on 360 today, but I won't be able to play it for a bit. If anyone finds a good platform comparison article please let me know. I can swap for PS3 if there's a significant difference.

managed to get a set of the little basic hollow guy enemies' armor, and one of their battle axes. Also of note: magenta skin. That's me with humanity, my skin is basically black when I'm hollowed. |
