Not much, actually. I started playing the game a bit less than a year after its US release, so I think a lot of messages like that were voted down and scarcely popped up anymore by the time I was really into it. I think my favorite messages were those right before Garl Vinland and Maiden Astraea: "You'll find true love here," and, "I think I'm going to cry..."

"Praise the Sun!" is often positioned in places where I feel like I have to do something, like right in front of an altar.

Yeah, no rings for me yet, either, except for one that appears to be a consumable.

The hell am I doing here? Gonna go play some now.

oh right i forgot about the consumable ring. i got another one right at the start that increases my defense when i'm at critical health, but, uh, pretty sure the next hit is going to kill me at that point anyway. maybe if it works based on percentage rather than on a set vitality value it'll be useful on high-level/high-vitality characters. i suppose it's probably helped me survive a blocked attack or two i may otherwise have not.

The import version was filled to the brim with "This is harsh, evaluate me." and I just stopped reading them. I dunno I didn't have much desire to read them anyways. I'm surprised I'm reading them in Dark Souls.

Wait wait... if you pray or something in front of an altar does that do something?

I saw a message right at the halfway point of the staircase with the iron ball that comes down. To the right of it was a message that said "Safe spot."

I got a really amazing ring from killing the gold armor guy at the shrine. I saw one too many "Imminent Wretch" and "Beward Wretch" messages to continue letting him live.

Nevermind. Found a merchant in the Undead Burg that's down some stairs that are hidden by crates. He sells it.

Fuck yeah. Just beat Bell Gargoyle with the aid of Knight Solaire. The help made the fight super easy (though fun!), but the Drake Sword was the real key, I think. I got the tail axe, too, but as cool as it looks this sword easily puts it to shame. Good stuff. Now to ring the bell...

Happened to me, too. Couldn't help but laugh.

So, for whatever reason the dragon on the bridge didn't die for me the way some of you guys described... Wouldn't mind those 10k souls. Hm.

Um, so. If I didn't talk to Knight Solaire enough so that he'd give me the White Soapstone and he's no longer in the spot I originally found him, is there anywhere else to get one?

There's actually a cheaper way to get around that. When I got cursed, I went into the ruins. If you fight your way to the end, there's a guy who will descurse you for 1 humanity.

Also I just rang the second bell, holy shit this game gets metal fast.

Haven't played much. But this game is fuck ass hard. At least, it seems that way trying to kill this damn Black Knight who is not so far into what I presume is the Undead Burg, down some stairs. Fuck that guy.

If that message happens to be near a bridge/aqueduct that's close to the start there really is a ring past there, but it's not over the edge of the cliff per se.

How the hell does magic work in this game anyway? I'm a Knight so I have no clue. Maybe I shouldn't spoil it, but... I wanna know.

well this turned out to not be a big deal since there's a bonfire nearby and it seems like your options open up significantly at that point. i think i'm gonna avoid going back to that part of the parish/burg for as long as possible.

hopefully the rest of the forest has more than one kind of enemy in it but it sure is atmospheric.

My favorite place in the game so far is what I'm dubbing the Valley of Heroes, it's the area you open after buying the crest to open it off the blacksmith.

Also I flawless-victoried the gaping dragon.

For anyone still wondering, eurogamer finds more or less no discernible differences between the two versions of the game.

Every new area you find starts off with the Law and Order intro sound. Every new area is a crime scene and I must solve all the murders.

seems like the bowl cut guy at the beginning will teach you some stuff if you talk to him enough and then form a covenant with him. i wasn't interested.

it sounds way too close to the "You Died" sound and freaks me out every time i'm not expecting it.

Damn, dude. Shitty.

Speaking of which, though, help me out, guys. :( Trying to decide whether to scrap 13 hours of play time because I didn't get my White Soul Soapstone...

Will I not have another chance to get one?

Maybe by the time that I get Dark Souls you'll have a new PS3 and we can be Souls Bros.

You're not missing out on that much. I'm not even sure what the incentive for phantoming for other people is in this game.

Man this game has kind of descended into really lazy level design now :(

I guess I'm supposed to run all the way back through the last couple areas and do another area or something. Really wish this game had fast travel.
