| Just discovered lost izaleth. I really want to enjoy this game... so why does it keep throwing garbage at me? I keep thinking I need to keep my head down and power through... but I just don't have a lot of time to play right now and when I sit down to enjoy myself and I'm having an experience like Lost Izaleth it's really hard to want to keep playing. |

Well but like... what did you expect exactly? I mean I guess it's kind of disappointing that magic damage isn't so hot. But Divine weapons are obviously specifically for Cleric types who are pumping Faith to max their miracles.
EDIT: In other words, that means it sounds like it's more efficient in terms of pure damage to level Str/Dex and get the appropriate upgrades. Which of course is only fair, because you aren't also simultaneously powering up your magic when you do so. |
Too bad as a cleric I've spent the entire game ignoring faith because none of the miracles are good until forever into the game and it's a while before you can even get the ember/materials to make a divine weapon. I guess you can kill the butterfly early enough, but good luck finding many green shards early. |

seriously the current online system for this game just breaks my heart. it's like, there's all this cool stuff to do with this system and it just sits there lobotomized because i don't have the perfect connection or someone else doesn't or whatever in the world else is going on with it
thinking i might have to take a break from this game for a while, i hit a wall in Blighttown and it's messing me up pretty badly |
Yeah, I've had to set the controller down and just step away a few times with this game. I usually come back and work through whatever had been causing me trouble a bit more easily after I've taken a breather, and as much as I relish its challenge there are times when Dark Souls just plain pisses me off. Had to give it a rest earlier tonight, actually. Nito seems like a cool enough boss and one that I won't have very much trouble with after maybe another try or two, but getting down to him through the Tomb of the Giants has been pretty frustrating. Finding the skull lantern itself was the hardest part, but even after that those strange crouching skeleton giants are just so awful.
Blighttown might have been one of my favorite areas, to be honest, aside from the slowdown. |
I just used the sunlight maggot from lost izalith to see. I spent the entire day collecting all the final boss souls. Like from the time I woke up until right now - when I plan to go to bed. I'm at the last boss... but he isn't really manageable solo for someone with heavy armor, low stamina, and no shield. Just... a massive hammer... It's done me pretty well until now. But I just can't get any fucking humanity. The NPC that sold it seems to have stopped selling it? So I killed said NPC. The only real hope is for me to go do 4 kings as a summon, which I tried to do... and then my game froze. That's when I decided to call it a night. |

I have an eagle shield +14 and max stamina and he blows right through it, and trying to back off results in him pressing the issue almost immediately after finishing his combo. The black knight shield (for the 95% fire) doesn't have enough stability to be able to block more than two of his swings, either.
There's a trick to him, though. |

honestly if all I'm missing out on is beating the boss and seeing an ending I'm not sure I care enough to finish it. I'd might rather just start a new character. |

Apparently you can skip the really fucking awful part of Lost Izalith by taking a shortcut that also has a little something to do with Solaire. Hmmmm... Playthrough number 2 you know what's up.
I think starting a new character helps me really enjoy the game. I mean, just like demon's, Dark Souls is a game that is more fun for me when I pretty much know the majority of what's what and there's just little undiscovered wonders to still be excited about - but in the meantime I can try and optimize a solid playthrough. That's where I get the most enjoyment is just trying to take my knowledge and do my absolute best with it. |

oh. i guess i forgot to read the full description, which (still doesn't say that but) is a lot more clear. the short description in the list menu says "improves balance on poor footing", which wouldn't have led me to believe it works the way it does at all. anyway! |
speaking of these, does anyone else love the fact that the miracle descriptions in the loading screens are hilariously fucked up?
favorite is how "seek guidance" lets you throw lightning bolts. |
Yes I've noticed. I think it's that all the miracles descriptions got mixed up with other ones.

| Yeah so since I had my new cleric just after the first bell when reading this yesterday, I went ahead and rushed straight for gravelord covenant. Awesome sword, awesome miracle, awesome covenant. I am... so pleased. I want to focus on using gravelord shit for a bit and try and rank it up so I can get the better version of the miracle. I dunno it was past my bed time last night and I used the gravelord thing once and eventually I got a spirit of vengeance but it didn't turn out so well for me and I was sleepy so I went to bed. Can you buy more eyes of death somewhere? I'd hate to run out and then be like "welp" |

I see many people advise casting Iron Flesh and wearing your heaviest armor and tanking him, but I don't have Iron Flesh and all the pyromancy merchants are dead in my game. Another piece of advice is parrying, but I've never parried before and it doesn't seem to work when I try it against him (maybe because I don't have the STR to carry a shield with high stability). And my most effective weapon, Raw Halberd +5, isn't staggering him very often if I try wailing on him. |
I wore Havel's set, two-handed my Halberd & mashed R1, rolling back once or twice to estus. Also, a standard Halberd +15 is way better than the raw & all the materials for it can be bought from the merchant near the top of Sen's.
Torn between starting again, playing NG+ or just waiting till people figure out some interesting builds to try. How are faith builds in this one? |
Well as people have mentioned divine weapons aren't all that great? But I dunno I'm enjoying it. You just kind of have to know where and when you can get all the stuff that makes it viable. Like the gravelord blade dance miracle, and the lightning thingy miracle. If you're working on those and keeping your faith high you'll be able to get good party healing miracles to use in coop. I think if you're going to go faith, go strength and largely ignore dexterity. Get it to like 13 or whatever the req is for gravelord sword or anything else you might end up finding really necessary, but don't go for weapons with better dex bonuses or anything like that. Stick to strength and faith. I think you only have to put one point into atunement before you can get a second slot for the cleric, so that's good. I dunno though occult weapons may be good. Higher faith bonus than strength bonus and life leach. Sounds awesome to me. |

Sorry I was role playing as an invader - this thread being remote's world. It seems like I was successful B)
On that topic - I've been more aggressive with the mutiplayer and I've found it's been going pretty well. I mean, if you keep alive obviously you're going to be able to summon people and be invaded. It's not easy to do, but yeah. I tend to like to have a sign down most of the time I'm playing because I never mind being summoned to help out, and it's a lot more likely to get summoned like that then just specifically whenever you want to. Yes - the multiplayer elements are half baked and clumsy, but I think a lot more people are being more aggressive with it like I am and there's a lot more of it going on. |

| My friend and I started a new character sat night and powered through to Anor Londo in one sitting. We were doing exceptionally well. We had a counter of like 8 humanity, and then an item stock of about another 8 humanity. We did end up losing our counter trying to grab items in the great hollow :( That was depressing. We got tired and careless at around 5am. I'll probably start the same basic character over and... do it better. |

Oh yeah - apparently being a total badass = farming humanity.
Basically, staying alive and killing lots of shit for a long time nets you humanity. That's how we ended up with a huge stock of humanity counters. We weren't entirely sure why the game kept giving us humanity.

I only intend to ever... how do kids call it? "1000"? "Cheev"? "Totes one kay"? "Mighty ten ten G"? "Pop the A's"? "Stiff right the rad medal-up"?
Anyway, I plan to collect all the achivements. I feel dirty having just typed that. I probably will only intentionally do this for one game ever, so I'm picking this one. After that I will consider myself too old for this shit. |
But yeah, IDK - it's like... if any game is worth doing that in, it's Dark Souls. I would just love to experience it that completely is all. |

I would consider you a bit of a dickhead if it happened to me.. I mean... perhaps the opponent was displaying a friendly gesture of respect for the competition. At the same time, were I watching or doing it, it would be quite funny.
I finally noticed that shotels go around your shield as I finally had a character that wasn't really ready to kill that shotel toting NPC. |

Well, the trolled could just sign out of PSN.
I did that once. Wanted to summon a friendly NPC, but while human someone invaded.
Last time that happened it was some Ring of Fog Asshole that killed me in two hits before I even realized what was happening.
Since DS doesn't let you quit the game during invasion, the only way to be save was to sign out, which threw me back at the main menu just as exiting normally would. |
making them sign out after they can't find me is the best possible outcome. |
but more likely - they just proceed to the area boss and you're sent home.
It might be better used AGAINST invaders. |

I'm actually 113 right now, but I was considering leveling my Faith up to 30 for Grant, a mace with B scaling for strength (and A scaling for dex, but I have 50 strength).
Not sure at the moment whether it'd be worth it, but if anyone here has used it I'd be curious.
How exactly is matchmaking being fixed with this patch? Sounds like it'll make it tougher for me to find partners/opponents at a higher SL.
At least I have my sorcerer to mess around with. |
I did the same and ultimately decided it's not worth it. I mean... why does it have A scaling for dex? Seriously? Why the fuck not faith or something that makes sense? Ughhhhhh anyways it's two handed heavy attack casts force I think? You can only use it a couple of times before it breaks though. |

Sat down and just obliterated the final boss tonight.
I feel really, really drained by this game and don't feel very compelled to hit up NG+ or a new character. This is really at odds with how I felt after Demon's, where I just wanted to do both immediately. |
I felt the same way. I think a consensus may be developing that the post-Anor Londo game is tedious and draining. I don't plan to replay up to the end of the game again.
I'm thinking the Four Lords should've been all post-game optional content (that redefinition would make me praise the game for the abundance of it, as opposed to complaining that I felt required to complete it). Demon Ruins, Crystal Cave and Tomb of Giants are cheap-looking and were visibly rushed at the last minute (Lost Izalith and Duke's Archive are only somewhat higher quality -- it's too easy to get lost in them, for starters). New Londo Ruins is okay except that its lack of a bonfire is frustrating and inexplicable.
But it's not only the decline in quality, it's that a game this punishing shouldn't last 50 hours. It felt like I deserved to have won after Anor Londo, but I wasn't even close. |
I sort of agree - but IDK. Though really I'm not sure why I'm holding out on full agreement? A problem I have with the length is that it was relatively easy in Demon's Souls to just start a character from scratch and have them through the game in a day and experiment with any build or game element you want. Have a wacky idea? Want to beat a certain boss using your fists? It wasn't really a problem to do fucking whatever and it isn't tiring. Dark Souls just doesn't have that. Every goal I have feels a long ways off, and not in a good way. And yes - after Anor Londo it gets pretty bad. Fuck the entire volcano portion of the game minus like... the not retarded part of Lost Izalith. (those one LI monsters are fucking awesome. Exceptionally weird design - like the basilisks and the primordial snakes.) And I even actually hate the final "dungeon". I think that shit is about as stupid as the bad part of Lost Izalith. |

That's why I don't know shit about STR, DEX, END and VIT. |
but KNOWLEDGE is POWER. this obsessive crap is really only useful if you're going to be doing pvp. could just be my thing, i don't mind spoiling mechanics for myself because i absolutely hate spending hours upon hours in a game only to realize i went about it entirely the wrong way. your methods are probably more healthy. |
I feel the same. Like, I didn't even really enjoy the first playthrough because my main goal is to Know All the Shit so I can make exceptional builds for PvP or coop purposes. Basically I always play with building a good multiplayer use character in mind. I don't care if anything I do seems cheap or something because I like the idea of completely terrorizing other players and making them wonder what nightmare just befell them. Reminiscent of my first time being invaded on demon's souls. Fucking crazy disappearing fast person making clouds of poison and breaking my gear with a spear in the brief moments I could see them. It was terrifying. I want to do that to other people. |
