hormones slider god could i possibly love this game more

(...though, come to think of it, didn't Demon's Souls do something similar with the "masculine/feminine" face attribute?)

guy is using a spell that essentially turns him into a chameleon, resembling statues and pots and shit

he's also wearing what looks to be the head of that boar from the E3 demo (shades of Monster Hunter?)

my god why are those other games even bothering

go home, Skyrim

I would rather the comparison not get made at all and we can just roll with the whole "different genres exist in videogames and that's okay" sentiment. fandom blinds us all

that's a good attitude to have, though. i guess i just got carried away.

i don't think i have ever felt so thoroughly defeated by a videogame. not even Demon's Souls.

mission accomplished, i guess? i'm predicting that, like Demon's Souls, i will like the game much more when i figure out just what in the world i'm supposed to do

The downloads for the Collector's Edition bonus content are working now, if you couldn't get them previously. They're still kinda slow, though

ran out of Estus Flasks halfway through the parish, right before i was to go in the church and battle that huge knight thing. took a detour left, got hit to within an inch of death, sprinted through the rest of the enemies and reached the bonfire just in time. i am literally shaking.

this Capra Demon has me feeling pretty hopeless every time i try to fight him i can barely walk in the door before he has me flat on the ground. is there something i'm doing wrong? i keep trying to take out his attack dogs but i only managed it once before he trounced me

after a few rounds of this i decided to wait and see if a soul sign showed up, but every one i've touched so far has ended in a "summoning failed" message. i can't really figure out what might be going on with my end to make it do that and it wasn't just for this boss, either, every one i looked at since starting the game has done this. has anyone else been having problems?

i think i'll learn some pyromancy and take on that black knight in the burg

that same thing kept happening to me stage, going in with a phantom definitely helps though

i do agree that they could've set up the arena for that a bit better

one exposed-rib-cage dragon, disposed

i guess i'm headed to Blighttown now! can't say i'm looking forward to it though, since most reports peg it as Valley of Defilement 2.0

syncophant: i'm pretty sure the "contraption" door is locked by the seal you can buy off the blacksmith in the Undead Parish. i haven't personally tried it though, the soul cost was a little too steep for me. the stone giants a little further past that area are a good way to earn souls if you wanna try it, they're really slow. also, Oswald (the guy in the Parish belltower) can help re: the angry merchant

killing the Stray Demon takes way too long.

i'm kind of at a loss for which direction i should go in next, do i head for Blighttown and ring the second bell or see what i can find in the Darkroot Basin? or do i ignore both and brave the Catacombs? too many options!

i notice i am liking/relying on the tank setup a lot more than i did in Demon's Souls. Divine Claymore = too good.

neat little detail i forgot until just now: one of the blacksmiths refers to an NPC as "Sir Onion" due to his comically rotund armor

the writing in this game is honestly amazing, just as much as the combat. everyone feels so alive

all these complaints about Lost Izalith broke my resistance and got me to look at some videos of the later areas, which led me to a video of the Crystal Cave, which holy lord i hope to god that is from an earlier patch 'cause that looks like some Simon's-Quest-caliber bullshit.

can't find a good place to kill that dumb hydra maybe i should just bite the bullet and head to Blighttown, i hear there's a whip there (Belmont build so closeeeeeeeeeee)

i am absolutely enjoying myself! the open world feels a lot more fun to me than Demon's Souls' setup. you have no idea how much i geeked out seeing Seath in the intro

i've heard whispers that there are actually two whips, one is on a kind-of out of the way outcropping in Blighttown, and the other is dropped by an invader in the painting world

Dark Souls i love you, but if you keep preventing me from being able to do all these cool online things i am going to break your disc in half

i really don't understand why they didn't just stick with dedicated servers for this game. the current p2p system seems really unstable

that skeleton blacksmith has a pretty great intro cutscene.

forest covenant led by an old cat? sure i'll join, why not? would be nice if my attempts to invade actually worked though (and, of course, this means i can't go fight the wolf w/o fear of angering said cat rrrrrrrr)

so far Blighttown is living up to my expectations. it's also not quite as hard as i was expecting (as long as you keep everyone isolated, anyway). still have yet to reach the swamp, though

i'm starting to think maybe i shouldn't have gone with a Divine Partisan. magic damage doesn't seem to matter as much in this game

also JUST LET SOMEONE SUMMON ME ALREADY GOD I'VE BEEN HOLLOW FOR LIKE FOREVER

seriously the current online system for this game just breaks my heart. it's like, there's all this cool stuff to do with this system and it just sits there lobotomized because i don't have the perfect connection or someone else doesn't or whatever in the world else is going on with it

thinking i might have to take a break from this game for a while, i hit a wall in Blighttown and it's messing me up pretty badly

I have just checked out the "bonus" features of my "limited" edition.

I almost never buy collector editions so I did not really know what to expect, but I expected something that at least kind of resembled the official illustration.

The behind the scenes DVD? There's a 5 minutes tour of From's studio, then it's all about this producer jerk from Bandai who just recites a list of themes and features everyone can learn about by playing the damn game, while demonstrating that he has almost zero understanding of what actually makes the game good.

And the big-ass "strategy guide" you could see in the official illustration? Here's what it looks like for me: Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C.

Is this really the average "collector's edition" experience? Or just Bandai being Bandai as usual?

yeah i was really unimpressed with this myself. what's more, the art book started literally falling apart in my hands after i'd flipped through it like three times. i wasn't even being rough with it!

also i'm glad to see i wasn't missing much with the behind-the-scenes videos, 'cause i couldn't even watch them! the downloads "finished" after getting maybe halfway through, and i wasn't allowed to download them again

so yeah, Namco fucked up with this one. it's a real shame, that strategy guide looks rather cool otherwise

heh, i got that same note before Quelaag.

there's an npc past the second bell and a hidden wall offering to let me join a covenant. i'm considering doing so, since the forest one doesn't really seem worthwhile to me

edit: just noticed yr post glossolalia, i think i'll try that tomorrow. thanks for the heads up!

holy lord Sen's Fortress is awesome (and will probably occupy the no. 1 place on my "progress lost due to one wrong step" chart)

it was really funny seeing one of those snake-heads get flattened by a boulder right as it was about to attack me!

fitting way to go out

bested Sen's Fortress today, good lord Anor Londo looks huge! and... kinda barren. i haven't really progressed far into it though, so maybe it gets more interesting? certainly looking forward to seeing the boss(es) after everyone's comments... along with a certain knight
