This isn't out till Friday in Europe, but Amazon says they're gonna ship my copy out on Wednesday and typically things from Amazon arrive at my doorstep one day after I get the shipping confirmation~~~
so I'm pumped as hell. Does anyone who's still waiting want to talk about what kind of character you're going to play? I'll definitely opt for close combat since I figure it's the best way to experience everything I encounter. A focus on defense would be helpful then, I can live with lower damage.
Looks like it's gonna be big guy with big armor again, same as my first Demon's Souls character. He only made it to Soul Level 57 though before I swapped him for a magical all-rounder. This time I'll hang in, though.
Will also take blurry pics of my guy! _________________

Yeah, that's happening to me as well. I actually haven't touched the game since November last year, I felt like I needed a break after six weeks and more than 100 hours and quit right after Gwynn fell. I wanted to dive back into it, make new characters and test new weapons but it just didn't happen for some reason. I felt the itch again some weeks ago, but that was when I already replaced my old sorry excuse for a computer and thus decided to wait for the PC version.
I'm planning on doing everything I originally wanted to do in the PS3 version or maybe just explore the game more - I spent at least three times as much time with Demon's Souls, and I'd like to beat that. |

When is the DLC coming out on consoles again, is it still "Fall 2012"? _________________

That looks very much like what they originally promised as the console versions' collector's edition. I've been tempted to get the Design Works book (until I looked through scans of it at least), so maybe I'll just get this one. _________________

Well, I caved in.
I now own a digital copy of Dark Souls: PC Edition.
For now, the plan is:
- download the game as soon as it unlocks
- start a warrior and bumrush to Firelink
- run through the Catacombs like a madman, grab the three Eyes of Death behind the Titanite Demon and join Nito
- put three points into strength and one into endurance to 2-hand the Gravelord sword
- give all the new PC players a proper welcome.

For whatever reason, there's no pre-load. _________________

Oh man, that's pretty great. Might do that, I've never taken the long way round shortcut before. _________________

Well, after some fiddling around I yesterday I got the game to run at a mostly stable framerate.
It's still choppy in some places though and occasionally I get a 5-10 seconds freeze that throws me straight to the title screen (fps too low for online mode). I kind of suspect my CPU to be at fault for the choppiness since the game doesn't seem to be utilizing more than two cores at best. I guess my X4 620, clocked at 2.6 Ghz, is too slow then. This would be a good time to learn how to overclock this thing.
This morning I started a new character, got down to the new Londo Ruins, opened the door to the valley and was welcomed with an instant game crash as soon as I entered it. No error message or anything that would help me. I'm getting the same crash whenever I try to load that character again. I can load my other character - who's still sitting in the burg - just fine.
At this point I don't really want to bother anymore and just play the PS3 version instead. _________________

Yeah, I did a sorcerer playthrough in the PC version and after freeing Logan, at least, everything in the game becomes absolutely trite. I knew I had a problem when I stopped using sorceries for regular enemies and started fighting them with my Estoc. The DLC bosses were fun because I couldn't block anything or take more than one hit, but you can get that with any character by playing without armor/shield. Never again. _________________

Bosses can't be backstabbed. They can't be riposted either except for a single one. These two only work on humanoid enemies.
The damage you deal to an enemy will be the exact same, no matter the angle. You can, however, deal more damage by attacking them during their attack animation, which is referred to as a counter in in-game terms.
edit: god damn it Youpi was faster AND more correct _________________

The jump doesn't really move you upward, either. A little, maybe, but not enough to hop over most obstacles. _________________

Are the European servers offline already? Atlus extended theirs, actually. _________________

I fought him maybe about half a dozen times on my sorcery character, and that did happen to me. I'm not sure if there's any pattern to these attacks or if it's completely random, sometimes he never used spells or his combo while my strategy was always the same. _________________

Sen's funhouse is great. I never discovered how to get on the other side of that cell until I played the PC version either. My favorite secret is getting up on the roof with the giant that raised the gate. _________________

"PURE BLACK TENDENCY" sounds like genuine Japanese T-Shirt Engrish, too. |
I can already imagine a Japanese Black Metal band with that name, like an early Sigh.
The logos for that and the shirt I posted are actually designed by Christophe Szpajdel who did the logos for Nachtmystium and Emporor, among others. I never thought I'd wear a vg-themed tee again in my life, but these are just too cool. Might get one with the Maiden in Black. |

| That's exactly why I'd like to the team try. I'm curious how they would design a new King's Field with all the experience they got from Demon's and Dark Souls, how - or if - they would make it feel like its own thing (again). |

Getting the sharpstone trophy is a special kind of pain. That red eyed skeleton became a part of my life.
I can only recommend platinuming Demon's Souls. _________________
